yeah this is gonna be the song for me for a while, huh.
I really like the OG of this, but Johnny Manchild really brings a focus on the drawing out of emotions from words that I think Lithonia REALLY benefits from. It also strikes out really well as its own piece, rather than being a second-choice to the OG Lithonia from Donald Glover.
They both end vocals sharply within this song, but Donald Glover's vocals are more in control and willing to ride slow through the current of the song. They're not back grounded at all, they're just gentle and- if I am to give personality to the song- willing to accept the fact that 'nobody gives a fuck'.
Johnny Manchild's sounds like its losing control with every step towards the end. The realization is still happening, fate not yet accepted- or never will be, if this continues. Its trying to fly high, soar to heavens higher than the stars, but truly finding the very fact the song tells.
Its really fucking striking compared to Donald's original, and different with a respect to keep very in-line with the idea, while straying far enough in a natural way. Playing into each main vocalists' strengths and letting the lyrics carry meaning is important for a cover, and I think that's what has happened here.
Kinda fuckin' beautiful if you ask me. Gonna put this on loop for the next hour and see if I can't find a way to scream about how good the strings are too. (Prolly won't, this was tiring.)

I feel like the Childish Gambino version is wayyyyyy better. This is the "not as good washed out version" but with that said it's still good. The original is already perfected tho
