Yep...got a couple of these for my dynamic mics and I totally love the added gain without the added noise of pushing my preamps. Great video, too. Thanks.
i know Im asking randomly but does any of you know of a tool to get back into an instagram account? I stupidly forgot the login password. I would love any assistance you can offer me
@Blaze Diego I really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and Im in the hacking process now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Now I can finally use my ribbons in live capture settings with a handheld! I do a lot field recording and this makes capturing with some of my favorite mics and my Tascam Dr-40 much easier.
not only that, getting it cleared through customs in my country would be impossible. those idiots just need a reason to confiscate (they wouldn't clear even Fethead saying it looked like an e-cig!)...
I was looking at building one of these things for some ribbons that are a little quiet and respond better with a higher impedance load...50K or more. I’m a huge fan of sE. They seem to make some really great products that have a unique twist on what people ha e been doing for years and so many people blindly copy without thinking.
Yeah not sure what the impedance is for this thing. Measured between pin 3 and pin 1 was 17k but I don't know enough to know how to calculate the load on a mic.
Thanks for the review Ryan! I was a bit surprised about your comment on the Cloudlifter. I was planning to buy a few but after this test I'm in serious doubt and tend to try the Dynamite first.
reading lots of reviews that many of these malfunction or dont work at all. when they work, theyre great. and many arrive DOA. so make sure youve got a good return policy.
thank you for your video. are you able to plug the dm1 direct into the audio interface end instead of the microphone end? here I'm trying to do this but it doesn't work: just a lot of noise and the mic captures nothing. My setup is a SSL2+ and MV7 from shure. Mounting the dm1 straight into the MV7 is pretty ugly.
You are absolutely right about the DM1 placement, if is in a setup with cheap wires with poor shielding it going to amplify noise, now if you play with good quality wires is no really matter if is right by the microphone or or somewhere in the way to the preamp, another good tip is use wires with the size you need, dont make a loop of 50ft under the desk it acts like a coil picking up noise and interference also weak the signal.
Wow, this vid is great, i have one question does this setup works please tell me............ Shure sm7b + DM1 Dynamite + Behringer U-PHORIA UM2 USB Audio Interface connected to macbook pro into logic..... please tell me.
it will work, but I wouldnt recommend, if youre gonna use a preamp, use the Cloudlifter... The Dynamite and the Fethead alter the audio, the fethead straight up changes the pitch a little tiny bit, but the dynamite... It literally has a high pass filter it cuts off 80hz if Im not mistaken so it gives you the impression that has less white noise so I cant recommend it because in post you cant really add what wasnt recorded, you can however take out what was recorded on the cloudliftet
This product looks great and I was glad to see it tested on the bass mic. What are your thoughts on using it on a snare mic? I have some e904s that I use on snare live and I've just not been a fan of the tone I get out of them compared to the same mic on toms.
Is this worth using with a dbx 286A and a Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen interface? I really like the sound of the dbx and would like to keep it in my voiceover chain, but with the added benefit of a mic activator.
What if I have no idea what you're saying, but have a Dynamite running into my Audio Technica mic through a Tascam 32-40 into Audacity/Hindenburg (haven't decided which, yet)?
That thing would be really slick for a regular 57. I really like using a 57 for OH mics on drums sometimes live because I can get much smoother sounding cymbals. A couple of those preamps would rock. Or for using 57s on something like a choir. Sometimes it's helpful to have different tonal options without so much noise
Agree entirely that this type of 'head amplifier' should sit close to the source. Even the best cable will pick up some noise (audible or not) and you don't want to amplify the noise by whatever these things provide - typically 20-30dB.
I wonder if this preamp will help me record a clean vocal without the need of a compressor. At the moment, I have my preamp gain at o/unity. The output is maxed with the recorded signal peaking at -35.
Ok, so can anyone tell me if the interface set at 8 gives the same signal as almost 0 with preamp then why should I get the preamp if there's still power in the interface to go up to 10? I'm using right now condenser mike with Scarlett solo for voice over but for streaming I was thinking about getting a dynamic Rode Podmic and I wonder if preamp would be necessary in my situation. p.s. Is there a way to power such unit with phantom power that doesn't come from the interface? I was thinking about getting additional module for Zoom H5 but I read they are not phantom powered XLR inputs so I was thinking if there is some "addon" between preamp and Zoom that would give the phantom kick?
Ok well anytime you use a mic, you should use a preamp. It’s purpose is to boost the signal up to Line Level. F you use an external third party preamp then you would use a Line Input like on various recording interfaces like these. Phantom is almost always done at the preamp and only used for condenser mics. Always keep off until you have the mic plugged in and never unplug with it still on.
Yeah I’ve used it with the JDI. Works great but didn’t really need the gain. PS if you can do the opposite, lots of gain before the JDI somehow, then you get more color from the DI box. Sounds like it’s not possible considering your current situation but a cool idea.
@@creativesoundlab Thanks for the tip . I'll try find something to maybe accomplish it :) . Thanks for response above all, since I'm trying to get more output from guitar and even RME preamp isn't noiseless when I turn it up. Love the vid's and all content on your channel ,really awesome stuff.
@@Emperor85E You can also use an active DI that may give you more output. Radial also makes the McBoost which is a more feature rich alternative to this or the cloudlifter. The Soyuz launcher adds some mojo, which the Royer dBoost is high end components (so they say). Many options.
I still want to know what the EIN is. sE claim it's the quietest on the market but the published figures make that hard to compare against a regular interface.
THANK YOU for testing it on Bass! Actually trying to get my hands on a ev re-320(you used the re-20, right?) for vo and bass and the dynamite is probably a great addition to this To be honest, to me it sounded like there was a very slight like low mid bump in there. But then again I was only listening through my inears, so I was probably just imagine things. Love from Germany!
Since Bosch’s purchase of Electro-Voice I’ve heard that the Re20 was redesigned with different “guts” that allowed it to suffer noise issues and rattle which is why they say the RE20’s made prior to 2011 are of superior build and quality except they don’t age well due to foam deterioration and muck buildup. Ryan, to your knowledge is the DM20 based on the older Re20 design ?
Yep either one, just have it on the front or back of the mic cable. Turn on phantom and you are good to go. You can only use it with a dynamic mic though, so no condensers.
@@creativesoundlab Hey there, would the DM1 work with a sennheiser wireless radio headset microphone set up? As I understand it, the headset microphone is a condenser microphone but isn't using phantom power at the wireless receiver end. I'd connect the DM1 btwn the amp and the wireless receiver. (It's an EW 100 G2 set up)
It actually seems like the DM1 has too much gain for your applications. I don't think it is fair to compare it to the cloudlifter that has a variable impedance knob as that one is intended to alter the sound. The standard cloudlifter CL1 is a better comparison as it has a flat frequency response with every dynamic microphone I have tested.
I’m sold, thanks so much! Kind of wish they made a DM4 like the Cloudlifter CL-4 but hey, can’t complain when it’s seemingly better and cheaper than a CL-1.
Creative Sound Lab 3 Month Update, in absolute love with the dynamite. Makes my ribbons sound great and also acts as phantom power protection when needed! There is no reason to be "worried" about phantom power with any correctly wired ribbon (or any other type) microphone. It would be better to not reinforce that internets paranoia.
@@creativesoundlab it's silly. for decades every major studio had phantom on, on every channel of their desks, and no one ever worried about plugging in a ribbon. Unless you have a TRS patch bay or some other way to short pins when you plug it in, it's a total non issue.
