People always talk about animal abuse, but what about the abuse of the performers? Think about it. Forced to perform when they may feel exhausted, underpaid (when many of the foreign performers are the soul providers for their families) even pushed to their limits when they themselves reported safety concerns, only to have those concerns ignored or delayed until it is too late. Does no one remember not one but 2 cirque accidents, both occurring in less than 6 months? To me that says that there is more abuse of the performers than one might think. Not to mention the horrific accident at Ringling Bros in Rhode Island. Google the top ten circus accidents. A majority involve people. What does that tell you
That may be true but the difference between performers and animal performers is that animals do not have a choice. They do not have a voice. Performers have a choice. They can quit if they want to but don't because they love what they do. They've already signed contracts stating everything they must do and the pay they will receive. Animals are forced to perform by abuse. They do not have free will. They are not comparable.
