Andy Latimer of Camel is one of the greatest guitarists. He knows how to convey emotions through his music. The Snow Goose is an absolute gem of an album that is all instrumental.
The Old Grey Whistle Test was an amazing live music show here in the UK in the 70s. No audience, just great bands playing live in the TV studio.Camel were very highly regarded and their live shows were superb. I saw them do this whole album live. They could really play.
16 year old me and my school mates were assembled to watch this performance. We knew Camel had told the BBC they would not cut about 2 minutes from the performance. When the end titles ran for OGWT we all screamed at the tv but obviously a Camel fan was in the production booth and kept the music running. Very unusual for the BBC in those days and caused a stir in the press. The album is meant to be listened to as a whole. I recommend it. The wind instruments are integral. BTW Andy Latimer the guitarist is an accomplished flautist. Even plays pan pipes.
I'm over 50 and just got turned onto them the Last month. So addicting. Their first 4 or 5 albums are wonderful. Don't look for tracks. Just put the headphones on wire to wire. "Mirage", "the snow goose" and "moonmadness" fantastic albums
I like Camel but this isn't one of my favourites. Found the woodwind pretentious and stomach turning but the rest of it was ok. Features Andy Latimer, the best guitarist featured on all this weeks reactions, by a million miles.
The whole concept album includes woodwind and is integral. The Beeb probably insisted on the black tie outfits as well as trying to cut the track length...
Yacht rock - bloody awful term... Utterly meaningless. A 'jonra' that was made up by some numpty decades after the music that it's suppose to represent was created.

I never heard of Camel before this, love the song.

Camel. The most underrated group of musicians ever. Andy Latimer's guitar was over the age of consent BTW.
All their early albums are concept albums. Should be listened as a whole.
The guitar player's facial expressions … glad you liked it. The whole piece which is an entire album is great
Merry Christmas to all
Hope you had a great one!

Relatively unheralded band. I liked them.

Fair enough!
