It keeps amazing me how every time I'm looking for a hint on how to do something weird or uncommon in unity there's already a video of this man covering the topic.
I'm sitting here watching this SCREAMING. i just spent two months working on a unity cartoon built on timeline, for which i made several custom tracks/playables. I really wish i had seen this video instead of struggling through the awful unity documentation.
Really great tutorial, thanks for sharing! Last year I had extended Timeline quite a bit, but man, the learning curve was tough and even after I got it working, I still didn't totally get it. Your video helps a ton, I'm not so afraid to jump back in again!
The best video guide ever. Simple and quick. Thnks a lot

This is great! as a side idea, could make a follow up video, extending this method so we can work with SO objects, or other method for adding Localization to our subtitles? thanks!
Thanks for the tutorial, I hope this question doesn't go unnoticed. How can I bind the track to a TextMeshProUGUI using scripting? The SetGenericBinding method of the playable directory only takes Objects as the 2nd argument and not TextMeshProUGUI ...
Yeah definitely, you could just expose a LocalisedText field on the clip \ asset instead of a string field, and get the value of it when assigning to the TextMeshPro field during the behaviour.
How do we solve issues where if you exit the timeline the text mesh pro still has the text and opacity set? I feel like it should reset back to the original value just like the native clips and tracks.
Excellent tutorial. I am looking for more use cases. Would it be possible to do change the lighting just through the animation system and Timeline? What is the benefit of using custom scripts here?
I don't see why more sprite animators aren't using Unity... They all keep flocking to Adobe Flash. I'm doing a little 2D animation project in Unity's Timeline now. Using a screen capture to render it to a .mp4 for uploading.
great stuff! do you know how I can drag in a bunch of anims to a timeline - and have them all sync from same start point - on their own tracks... (currently they all fall into a sequence in the same track)
Is nobody gonna talk about how this person is a human typewriter? I've been programming the last 2 years and i can barely even follow what he's typing at 0.5x speed Like do you want me to understand what you're doing or do you just want me to slow down and pause the video and copy and paste code?
Custom scripting to do what we want in timeline is awesome sauce, thanks for sharing and making it quick and simple!
I realize it is pretty off topic but does anybody know a good place to watch new series online?
This video is something Unity themselves should have done - very insightful! Thank you.

What can I say? I have a motif! 😂

Sorry man...
Finally a video that explains the custom playables well within 10 minutes. Thank you!
I've watch unity explain this and didn't even get a damn clue to what i needed to do.
Thank God for Game Dev Guide to an insightful info.
Amazing work! Thank you very much!
Just found your channel, a real gold mine for knowledge on unity!

Yeah, although the end result rocks I sure wish more time was spent going over how exactly it works.
Amazing Tutorial
Can you please make a Tutorial about how to mix Gameplay and Timeline
You are the first channel I've seen that openly admits how limited Timeline is for games...
terima kasih game dev guide 👍
Great video! This is really useful!
Make sure to spell ‘Behaviour’ correctly! My script wasn’t working because I forgot to add the letter ‘u’ 😅
bro your videos are awesome
Thanks a lot keep doing more videos.. 🔥🔥😋 i subscribed
woow this is so useful! Thank you very much :D
I want to learn how to change colors.
Thats awesome! Too bad im too stupid to understand 95% of it, but will try to make a sequence with head movements like that. :D
It worked amazingly well, but there's a way i can use the subtitles for in-game dialogue?
If I am not wrong, this can be used for custom Post-processing. I mean, this is a total replacement for "After effects" or "Davinci resolve"
Very good Video! Since Unity 2019 the TrackAsset is gone. Is there an alternative I can use?
how can i make a typewriter effect with this?

Such a rad video! By any chance Is it possible to tie this into the localisation scripts you created?
Yeah definitely, you could just expose a LocalisedText field on the clip \ asset instead of a string field, and get the value of it when assigning to the TextMeshPro field during the behaviour.
Ahh right, that makes sense. Thank you so much :)
How do we solve issues where if you exit the timeline the text mesh pro still has the text and opacity set? I feel like it should reset back to the original value just like the native clips and tracks.
Perfect ❤️
Awesome!

great tutorial! tho did you use warframe as an inspiration lmao?

I might have missed it in the video but where is the code for the light script?

how to add border to subtitles?
It's useful vid. thx!
I think in 2025 Unity guys will let us right the engine from scratch!!!
Thanks for your incomplete spaghetti API 🙏
At some point this man is going to stop making us videos and just work for unity
other way around ;)
