    I mostly agree with your list , not sure how 'man'-made the Tower of Ghenji is though. I would have put Hawkwings statue, even 1000 years after it was torn down the size of it is amazing. Theres also that memorial (cant remember its name) when Hawkwing defeated the darkspawn army

  • @johannsigursson5319
    @johannsigursson5319 5 лет назад +6

    I feel the topless towers of Cairhien really should've been on the list, since they're discussed with reverence several times in the books and the guardian in far madding. Not sure about the Eye of the World and Dragonmount, since the eye is fairly obscure and you need to venture into the blight, not very tourist friendly and Dragonmount is a source of fear and disgust rather than admiration and worship like most of the ancient wonders of our world. Great video and interesting topic all the same :)

  • @twig8523

    You always frame these really well. Setting clear rules, with apparent care and consideration. My mind was already adding Caemlyn and Tar Valon when you invalidated their entry. If almost say theirs an argument to exclude the Stone of Tear for the same reason as the cities, though. 😉
    Gah! The Choeden Kal! Great choice. Easily overlooked.
    And while I saw Aridhol being excluded, Dragonmount is a great #1.
    I've seen a little info from the companion and thought that there might be a makeable list of natural wonders too.
    PS- I still really love that intro Jak 'O the Shadows flute... And I'll sometimes fail to make my wife laugh by singing this version of Tinker in the Kitchen in the worst " Dick Van Dyke-y" accent I can manage. 😆

    • @NaeBlis
      @NaeBlis  5 лет назад +3

      Thanks twig. Hope you’re getting some enjoyment out of that copy of Eye of the World.
      The Stone of Tear is really just one thing inside the city tho. I would liken it to maybe the Sun Palace. The Sun Palace just doesn’t have the same iconic look as the Stone.

      Of Time related too which I love!

    Loving your videos Nae'blis - cool collection of wonders - perhaps you should say wonders of the fourth age.
    Some minor corrections: It was Rand's need that located the Eye of the World, not Moiraine, if you go back to the text you would see it, the Green man is surprised Moiraine was able to get their again having alreadybeen there before, but when the finding happens it is Rand's great desire and pull that brings it to him, and imo, allows Moiraine to circumvent the rule, or rather Rand's need overides Moiraine's exclusion.
    Well done for mentioning the Choedan Khal - it definitely qualifies. However I think they were projects started during the war of power and not completed till after the breaking, the first one was actually what Mierin Sedai (Lanfear) used to bore the whole into the dark one's prison when they were searching for a greater power source, Rand's vision shows that one shattering into black. The light side afterwards then proceed to create two even more powerful ones, that were not completed before the war ended, but finished before the breaking occurs.
    Ruidean would be a wonder, but as you're not including cities, the glass column Ter'angreal, described as forest of mirrors would qualify, but then which of the buildings of that city would not, it was built in teh fourth age, but is an age of legends style city though the Genn Aiel never completed it - they had Aes Sedai with them if you follow Rand's vision - powerful dreamer Aes Sedai it's probably from them the Wise One use of the power and dream actually stem from.
    The Crystal Throne in Seanchan would also likely qualify. It is said to be awe inspiring
    The Royal Palace in Caemlyn I think would qualify, but not if you were going to limit it to 7.
    Good call for putting Dragonmount on the list, I would not have thought about it, not immediately I confess, but I'd have to agree with you on that one.

  • @nerdzone
    @nerdzone 5 лет назад +17

    I kind of disagree. I do not think The Eye of the World and Dragonmount should be in there. Yes, they are related to the story but The Eye of the World is super obscure. Even if you are super educated person in Wetlands you have most probably not heard of it even once. Dragonmount may be manmade but it will even be a bigger pain for the people of Wetlands than anything made by the Shadow. It will be the same if we decided to name the ruins of Pripyat (near Chernobil) a wonder of the world.
    In my opinion we should have The Guardian in Far Madding in the list for sure. What will be the last one, I cannot be sure because it depends on the rules.
    If it is okay to include thing in the Three-fold land and we can name it one thing than the central plaza in Rhuidean will be my second pick. Or maybe the columns if the whole complex is not allowed.
    Otherwise I would pick some of the following: The Terhana Library in Bandar Eban, Aeadaishar Palace or The Royal Palace of Caemlyn.
    Of course it is an interesting topic since we only know so much about the whole planet and all points of interest. I guess in Shara and Seanchan there are a lot more.

    Good list and some more candidates would be The Guardian/Chamber of the Council of Far Madding, the twin Palaces of Illian, the Topless Towers of Cairhien, Rhuidean, Seven Towers of Malkier and the unnamed death spike that is a remnant of the Age of Legends. I think not all the original Wonders may have existed at the same time (if at all) so I would not have the rule that they must be still standing at the end of the books, but it's your list. ;)

    Indeed this show is a concern for us book-reading folk. LOTR and H-Pot got their due just about, but even that level of production, rare as it is, is an even harder ask for something with as depthy a magic system as this.
    I mean it's something that I could wish I'd have practiced constantly for the past few years to strive to fit some part of the production as a reader to influence the tone it's so much a thing.
    I haven't even dared see my other prescious Dark Tower in it's movie incarnation. The 'General action pace' is hard for any movie producer to want to back, and it's experimental enough for a creative type too.

    I have to disagree with when the Eye of the World was created. During the flashbacks it's shown to be created during the beginning of the breaking, not long after the dragon and the hundred companions resealed the dark ones prison (at least they're talking about the event as if it happened not long ago and they how had to use young male Aes Sedai not yet tainted enough to go mad to make it, which makes the early Aes Sedai perticulary wounderable to the taint). Unfortunatly I think Robert Jordan was terrible at showing how long time has passed between certain events, the whole series feels like it spans almost a decade but it seems if you look into it, it's just a few if not just a couple of years. If it didn't happen several thousands of years in between an event it could almost have happened within a span of days.

    I vote these should all go in a WoT mod for Civ V! Speaking of, is there a decent one anyone could recommend? Anything as good and balanced as the ASOIAF mod for CK2, for example?

      I agree. Didn't they just call it 'the world?' We know they don't care much for astronomy, as it was an emerging field at the end of the series. Maybe the justification was that the world didn't need a name to differentiate it from other worlds.
