How do you contain them? Is trimming them down close to the grown good enough to make sure they don't get out of control? I love this plant and don't want to take it out, however, our landscape architect *highly* recommends we do. If all I have to do is cut it down once a year I can deal with that. Thank you, great video.

totally cut down crew-cut style once each year. almost so you only have less than about 7 inches or so. these guys come back each year. I think the best time is usually late fall-ish. But, you can ask around based on where you live. Please make sure you bag them up so the seeds don't blow all over the neighborhood.

How long would you say it takes to mature?

grows back every year....about 2 feet high, even if you deadhead cut then down to about 6-8 inches
