    Thanks for sharing. And it's always a bonus when something you didn't know was cake turns out to be cake. 😉

    I'm retired and I'd love to go there, but I have a Dodge Grand Caravan, 2WD. I keep reading that 4WD is absolutely necessary to get there. Is your Ram 4WD?

    • @DrifterJourney
      @DrifterJourney  Год назад +1

      Our Ram is not 4wd, just front wheel drive with upgraded suspension and tires. Needing 4wd just depends on the route you take. Historically, people have traveled the north road through salt flats, or over the mountains from Loreto through LA Purisima. We don't go either of those ways. There is a paved road (although the condition of it changes every year, especially after hurricane season) that goes from cuidad insurgentes to Las Barrancas. Google won't find the route so you have to navigate on your own. The pavement continues north from Las barrancas all the way to San juanico. Use satellite view on Google maps and you'll see it 👍🤫

      @@DrifterJourney Thanks! From what I read on wannasurf it is as crowded as rincon when there are any waves. Looks like you got lucky!

    • @DrifterJourney
      @DrifterJourney  Год назад +1

      We've heard there can be 40 people in the lineup during peak season there, but yeah, we've gotten lucky with small off-season swells that aren't big enough to draw the crowds from California.

  • @Vankookz
    @Vankookz 2 года назад +1

    This is exactly how the conditions were when I was there.... I need to get on the surf team. I needed a bigger boat! It's so amazing to watch the waves peel all day long with the perfect winds at Spot X. Are you guys still down in Baja?

    • @DrifterJourney
      @DrifterJourney  2 года назад

      It was definitely big boat conditions. 🚢 It got hot down there so we bailed. We did CA, NV, UT, WY, CO, NM, TX.....and currently sitting at a ferry crossing in LA. Wishing we were back due to all the humidity though. 😕

      Hi! Thanks for watching! We've been driving around the Baja peninsula several winters in a row now and really love it. You need to trust your traveler's intuition, and use common sense. We've posted several videos on our travels throughout Baja, so feel free to peruse the channel and let us know if there's anything specific you have questions about!

    Where’s all the sand? Crazy, last time I was there it was a big beach.

    • @DrifterJourney
      @DrifterJourney  2 года назад +1

      That's a great question. We heard that a storm took it all out a few years back and ruined 2nd point. We have never been there with the sand though so we don't know any better.

    • @adamosgood
      @adamosgood 2 года назад +1

      @@DrifterJourney thank you for replying. That’s crazy. It was a huge beach and stretched way out into the low tide mark. We’d catch a wave, about 45 seconds on a small day, then walk back to the point along the beach. Sad to see it like that but I’d still love to get back there someday. I love Baja, magical place.

    • @adamosgood
      @adamosgood 2 года назад +1

      @@DrifterJourney the sand bottom there was great habitat for sting rays. We would have to always shuffle our feet when wading out of the water after a wave. I gently stepped on one but it did nothing fortunately. A lot of people have been stung there in the past.

    • @DrifterJourney
      @DrifterJourney  2 года назад +1

      @@adamosgood it's sharp now but it still goes for days. It was small when we were there and it wouldn't connect from the point to around the middle. We'd take off more in the middle and go a long ways though. I caught one (not on tape) that would have sent me through 1st point if the tide was higher.

    • @DrifterJourney
      @DrifterJourney  2 года назад

      @@adamosgood I always say I'm going to do the stringray shuffle but then am having so much fun that I just trudge around. Luckily I've only been zapped once so far. That also reminded me quickly to shuffle.

    I just visited for two days, the visit was part of my baja trip and i always wanted to go there, long story short it was flat, no waves nothing, we had to go to the beach south of were the fishermen are to catch small 2ft waves but that is better than nothing. Beautifull spot but like always as soon as we left the next day the swell picked up. Crazy 4 hour dirt roads to get out thru the middle of the desert.

    • @DrifterJourney
      @DrifterJourney  2 года назад

      Oh that's a bummer that you didn't get a swell. It's totally hit or miss there and we usually only check the surf report when we're in the area. If it looks good, we go. Glad you got some ankle biters though!

    • @skydivedickson
      @skydivedickson 2 года назад +1

      did you go there from the north or the south road? We want to go there in a couple weeks with a 40ft bus.

    • @ambienteterrazas
      @ambienteterrazas 2 года назад

      @@skydivedickson I dont want to misslead you, we arrived from the south and got into this off road trail completly non passable with a 40ft bus, on this trip i took my lifted awd rav4 and it did scrape (i was loaded with gear) but made it made it thru, the trail is uneven, rocky and sandy. If you are coming from the south i think there is now a paved road into town since i saw many big trailers. From highway 1 there is a turn off to san juanico but we were stupid and took the hard way. To leave we drove thru the desert into san ignacio and that saved us around 3 hours but again that trail is non passable with a big vehicle. Check your maps, drive slowly and have fun.

    • @DrifterJourney
      @DrifterJourney  2 года назад +1

      Definitely take the south road. It's paved all the way to town. No reason to take the north road unless you've done extensive research and/or are with someone who has been that way.

      @@DrifterJourney We met some guys in the restaurant in San Juanico who had a 4x4 Tacoma that got stuck because the took a wrong turn and ended up badly stuck. They told us they were about to ditch the car when out of nowhere a family passing by stopped and help them. The northern road can be very confusing and one wrong turn and you are headed in the wrong direction towards wetlands.
