It's interesting, as I read these comments, to imagine how many people saw a genius like Basquiat and judged him to be unintelligent and/or worthless just because of his distance from the visual and behavioral norms of mainstream American "culture". That, along with the mediocrity affirming assurances of superiority amongst English dialects, is nothing short of precious. "Proper English" is such a steaming crock of obliviously racist bullshit - as if the mastery of one dialect of a hopelessly bastardized language could ever be more indicative of intellectual merit than another. Newsflash...no one has spoken "Proper English" since 1066 when the Normans defeated and subjugated the Anglo-Saxons and turned true English (a Germanic language) into a Frenchy patois gutter language. Certainly, without even that bit of historical accuracy, no one in America has ever even approached a version of the language worthy of hierarchical preference over any other except in the minds of those who gained dominance through the most base and barbaric forms of human coercion. And now I watch as their descendents enter comment sections to "correct" a language they don't actually speak. Oh...the irony...
