I am sorry I shared my 5th step with the sponsor I had at the time. Unfortunately, I've found that anonymity has gone out the window. I was friends with her for a number of years and witnessed a lot of gossip and narcissistic behavior. I no longer live in that town, but return to get my hair cut, only to hear what has been shared about me. Not only does my hairdresser know I'm an alcoholic, but she knows the details of my divorce and the former sponsor's judgement of it. Very unsafe. I recommend you work with a therapist, not a sponsor. I will not return to AA. It served it's purpose, and for that I am very grateful. Stay alert, trust your gut and get a THERAPIST.

So hyperthetically for examlpe if you tell you sponsor you comitted a heinous crime e.g murder wouldnt that have a moral obligation to report you or do they have to keep it secret?

I think that would be based on the moral compass of the sponsor.
