Ianto was one of the most interesting characters I have ever seen. He might give the first impression he's happy being the gentle skivvy, the man behind the desk but he shocks you with how cool he is with a gun and has gone through a troubling past, with realistic long lasting trauma. He's quiet, shy, smart and quick-witted, but there lies a side that thrives on action and violence, dark humoured and flirty and he switches between the two flawlessly.
I love how happy Martha seemed to be for Ianto and Jack. Martha knew Jack was hopelessly in love with The Doctor, like herself and she was so glad he moved on.
Watching how his costume changes over the seasons is almost heartbreaking. In the flashback episode (where he complements Jack's coat twice) he isn't in a suit but his pants and coat are still black and his shirts are white. Then in season 1 his shirts are white and his ties fairly muted, then in season 2 he has brighter ties and lightly coloured shirts, season three rich (darkish) shirts, CoE the same... and then dead.
