Hey everyone, Stories for a Better World is a new channel and they put a ton of work into this so please share! Notice I never ask you to share videos? Well now I am lol
Also, I know I said withdraw instead of withdrawa*l*, I'm the first to notice it so there :P
Digging this.👍
Where's the accent from, & is that standard? I thought the word was a·kwuh·frz (/ˈæk.wɪ.fər/) not uh·kwuh·frz.
Clue is in the Latin or French for water, aqua.
I love this video Mic, but your choice to depict animal agriculture as this green pasture is just what kids are taught at school it is like. its nothing like that, but full of cages, blood, feces and tears.. this is the fairytale we have been fed all these years please dont perpetuate it, thanks.

Flat earth is surrounded with the great ice wall. Water can't fall off :)

yes, that is correct - arizona state officials created a contract for the saudies that allowed them to use as much water as they pleased - which drained all of the aquifers in the area - all the wells in the area have gone dry - the state officials have all resigned, but nobody was indicted for selling out the state ..
Oh my god that is horrific
Why don't we tell the nation this has happened? I never knew this was owned by a nation? Or is it a private company from that nation?
@@danielswiss8197 it's been reported by arizona news stations for the last year - it was a local news station that broke the story and created the uproar which forced the state government to resend the contract - why doesn't the national news report the story? the saudies pay big bribes in the usa would be my guess - fun fact - many of osama ben laden's family was residing in the usa on 9/11 - the federal government flew them out of the country to protect them ..
"State Officials"?...State Offal, more like.

I'm sure this format was a lot more work, but I really enjoyed it.

Humanity: sprinting towards extinction for the sake of cheeseburgers, pizza, Deli meats, mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, hot dogs, and ice cream.
For capitalism more accurately.
@@bryanbadonde9484
Don't be a stereotypical leftist and say literally everything is because of capitalism. The animal agriculture industry is as successful as it is because most people love eating animal products and were raised to think it's perfectly normal and acceptable and healthy.
Even most people who acknowledge the harm the animal agriculture industry does and acknowledge that most animal products are pretty bad for your health say they will never stop consuming animal products because they like it.
Marketing may help to increase their sales but if these businesses weren't profitable because nobody was buying their stuff, they would shut down.
Capitalism bad but it's not the cause of literally every problem in the world.

Capitalism's reach must reverberate backwards through time then because humans have been consuming animal products throughout all of history.

This was good: entertaining and informative.
This is one of my favourite topics (I highly recommend Andrew Millison's videos on this topic). Humans are sleepwalking themselves into water scarcity, even in countries which currently have no water supply issues, because we are draining our aquifers. Slowing the rate we use water can buy us time while we transform food systems to have lower water requirements (i.e. permaculture and native crops)
A 2023 Oxford study found that, compared to high meat eaters, vegans produced 75% fewer greenhouse gas emissions, 75% lower land use, had 54% lower water use, 73% lower eutrophication, and 66% lower impact on biodiversity. The reduction was stepwise - each reduction in animal foods consumed lowered the impact(table 4).
''All environmental indicators showed a positive association with amounts of animal-based food consumed. Dietary impacts of vegans were 25.1% (95% uncertainty interval, 15.1-37.0%) of high meat-eaters (≥100 g total meat consumed per day) for greenhouse gas emissions, 25.1% (7.1-44.5%) for land use, 46.4% (21.0-81.0%) for water use, 27.0% (19.4-40.4%) for eutrophication and 34.3% (12.0-65.3%) for biodiversity. At least 30% differences were found between low and high meat-eaters for most indicators. Despite substantial variation due to where and how food is produced, the relationship between environmental impact and animal-based food consumption is clear and should prompt the reduction of the latter.''

Great video. The general public is always being made to feel guilty about their domestic water use but the media rarely mentions the gross agricultural use...and waste.
Looks like Mike finally made it into his final vegan form, he can now return to Vega!
Wow full animation! 👌
The aquifer in my valley was polluted with waste from the farms so now drinking water needs to be piped in. :(

Another issue affecting aquifers is fracking- this is injecting dangerous chemicals into the aquifers and should be outlawed 😅mmediatelt. We have no way to remove tha damage done and the irresponsible greedy gas companies who have engaged in this need to lose everything- especially the personal fortunes of CEOs. In fact a lawsuit proving that they know what they are doing should be brought and these bastards should go to prison for life. They have destroyed the water of future generations.
It’s infuriating that the oil companies don’t have to disclose what chemicals they’re using in fracking
Loved this 💎🧬
It's sad but also comedy realm, like douglas adams kind, a species that destroyed their own home planet over milk and burgers
I love this style of video
Make your thumbnail is blurry, great video, though I was amazed when I learnt how much water goes into feeding cattle while they tell us to have two minute showers , Carbs FTW!! 💪💪💪
I never heard of aquifers before this. Thank you for this very important information.
the animation and narrative is so well made, very well mic 🙏
Surprised there isn't a YT Kids note under this one! Really enjoyed the style of this one, sort of thumbing your nose subtly at Kurzgesagt, because it addresses this growing problem in easily understood terms. Thanks for posting 🙂
If this wasn't so bloody sad, it would be hilarious! What am I saying, I couldn't stop laughing at how messed up we've made this planet and still continue to do so. Well done Mic and Stories for a Better World!
Hats off to Stories for a Better World for these graphics. Brilliant!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Great story telling Mic! Entertaining and concise. So many reasons to eat less meat or none at all and this is one of the most important. I did not know that ecoli was getting into the ground water. Thanks for your work.
I admire so many things about you, Mic. But what I admire most is how you go ALL IN on every bit you do. You pull no punches with the puns too. Awesome animations for this video. You rock. 🤘
Such a fun format and still a great video!!
You're a gem Mic.
This is soooo awesome! The cartoon part, not the aquifer shortage part.
Really interesting! FYI the Bush family quietly bought thousands of acres in Paraguay, placing them right on top of a major aquifer.,
Great video for school-aged children. Should be showing this in science class!
Good grief. It's good that I'm closer to the end than the beginning, given the damage humans continue to inflict upon each other and the planet. I never had kids, either, so I'm closing the door behind me. I wish the next generations much luck. I hope you younger folks figure out things.
Creative visuals! I wonder if the rapid drainage could contribute to an earth quake.
Love this new video style and content 👏👏👏
FUN video thank you
I really like this type of narration! Keep it up
Amazing animation!! And so educational as well!! :)
Loved it! That had to have taken a lot of time to make.
This was funny. Maybe it should be shown in schools. No, it would get banned in Florida.
Sad but true. And they really need it
Cutting down trees here led to a high water table and salinity. They better start cutting down the trees. Lol
Sick animations
It’s like spirit science but taking the planet seriously!
How much water is sitting in warehouse in bottles ? Just curious how much water companies like Nestle and Pepsi cola have stocked up and stored that could remain in the ground
Great video. Send to schools. ❤ 🍀
Growing alfalfa for cows. When will people get their heads out of their arses
This format is fun and I'm a gerbil.
I thought the aquifer woes were just limited to my area -- north Idaho -- where a sudden influx of humans and subsequent housing boom has created neighborhoods over our aquifer where we previously had prairie and farmland. Apparently these houses = more water demand than the crops we used to grow. Levels are dropping while existing pumps can't keep up with demand. Nor can the rest of the infrastructure. The sewer system is backing up, creating smelly neighborhoods. Transformers are overheating from the electrical demand. I learned in school how to protect our aquifer, but I fear transplants from out of state won't have the same knowledge and will overfertilize their lawns, let their cars leak fluids into the street, etc. :(
The aquifers across the whole US are depleted.
I knew it! Great collab! ❤
Better start fracking to make room for water😂
What a surprise! Not!

That was cool but we need to take better care of our water and planet. And stop harming animals. I haven't eaten red meat in 26 yr. Go vegan
What's Drinking Our Planet's Aquifers Dry? - That would be Human Beings Mic. No way that water is going to get out of the aquifers if we didn't Pump it out.
i'm from the central san joaquin valley - up until the 70's our basement would flood for about 3 months during the winter - in the 70's the basement stopped flooding - by the mid 80's my dad had to drill a deeper well - but blaming farming or cows is incorrect - when crops are fed - the water not consumed by the plant goes back into the ground - cows produce fertilizers and are part of the ecosystem - cali built reservoirs in the mountains surrounding the 'big valley' to capture the rain and snowmelt that would naturally flow into the valley - most of the water captured goes to the cities - not to the farmers - cali is trying to build another dam - the sites reservoir - socal water agencies are financing it and all of the water that would naturally flow into the valley is going to be pumped to socal - because there's tens of thousands of housing built in the high desert of socal that has no secure water supply ..
The water that is not used to grow food groups goes back into the ground and recharges the aquifers. Animal agriculture leads to disproportionately high water use which requires more aquifer draining than a plant-based diet, which requires fewer crops overall and has significantly less water requirements.
"Moving from current diets to a diet that excludes animal products (table S13) (35) has transformative potential, reducing food’s land use by 3.1 (2.8 to 3.3) billion ha (a 76% reduction), including a 19% reduction in arable land; food’s GHG emissions by 6.6 (5.5 to 7.4) billion metric tons of CO2eq (a 49% reduction); acidification by 50% (45 to 54%); eutrophication by 49% (37 to 56%); and scarcity-weighted freshwater withdrawals by 19% (−5 to 32%) for a 2010 reference year.”
science.sciencemag.org/content/360/6392/987?fbclid=IwAR07T2
So you are saying that overpopulation in the valley causes the loss in the river and that keeps the underground reservoir empty? Was your flooded basement in the 70s because of a full underground reservoir?
@@danielswiss8197 overpopulation in socal and pumping water from norcal to socal instead of allowing the water to flow down into the valley - the basement flooded because of a high 'water table' - it's not an aquifer - it's the natural depth of the groundwater - parts of the valley have sunk over 20 feet in the last century ..
@@isaweesaw blaming animals for human caused problem is a colonialist mentality that i do not share - there's a world-wide water shortage caused primarily by government corruption - like arizona state officials taking bribes to allow the saudies to drain their aquifers - or like the state of cali - cali has a law - a water district can't issue a 'will-serve' letter without a secure 20 year supply of potable water - that law has been violated literally tens of thousands of times - cali has millions of people living in socal without any secure water supply - so they are pumping water from norcal to socal and blaming the farmers - or the cows - but it's fraud - and intentional lie ...
@@isaweesaw notice how i comment under my real name - i'm a forensic auditor of government agencies - don't come to me with your 'expertise' when you are so brainwashed into submission that you can't even comment on youtube using your own name ..
I am so here for how silly this is
We have enough energy to make as much water as we need. It isn't really a big problem.
Have to produce that high fructose corn syrup, modified food starch and soybeans to feed the soy boys!
Capitalism.
Dude isn't a big deal, we need to build desalinization plants and the freshwater problem is solved
Nothing. PRIMARY WATER. Look into it.
I don't think primary water kept the Arabian Aquifer System from drying up which led Saudis to grow Alfalfa for dairy in Arizona tho.
@@MictheVegan Do you know what Primary Water is? Where it is and where it comes from?
I don't would you please inform me @@amy3458?
@@amy3458 Most of the water being used for agriculture is from aquifers - and a disproportionate amount of agricultural output is used as animal feed. A plant-based food system would reduce crop requirements, as well as water usage
