Hi Keef, it's Mike Florence the seafood chef down in Kent and I trust you and your good lady are well. OK, I make you The No Nonsense Curator of Traditional English Pies & Puddings. Thanks sooooo much for your test and cooking advice using this Pie Maker. Your Beef, Cheese & Onion Recipe just great. Using this machine, my only suggestion would be to glaze the pastry top and bottom with butter. Many thanks Keef for this really helpful video. Cheers, Mike.
Wow!!! Hi Keef, I’ve just found you!. You’re a breath of fresh air! By far the best reviewer I’ve come across and you also remind me of one of my Catering Lecturers that I had at Catering College! Bravo!. Joel.
Hi Keef this is Elaine 1of your subscribers or followers ( laugh) just thought I would say I have one of those pie making machine and I have had it for at least 20 yrs it is well used and the pies come out beautifully I have mixed egg and milk to glaze my pies and have never had a problem with them sticking thanks for the vid x Elaine ❤
Well, 'eck, Keef! That Quest Double Pie Maker looks like a right gem! Minced beef and cheese, you say? Now you’re talkin’! Can’t beat a good pie, especially when it’s all crispy and golden, just like me mum used to make. Keef, mate, I reckon you’re onto somethin’ here. A double pie maker means you can whip up a couple of beauties at once-brilliant! The filling looked proper hearty, too; just the kind of comfort food we Yorkshire folk love, especially on a chilly day.
Hi Keef got my pie maker from your link and made these today , 9 pies i got but with shop brought pastry for quickness as im a little unwell , these are yummy and il freee some for cooking later on , Taking one cold to work 2moz with my packed lunch , Cheers buddy
I picked a pie maker like this up for £2.50 in a charity shop recently and I think it’s fab ! So much cheaper than putting the oven on for a couple of small pies. Also the instructions in mine say to cut a small triangle out of the side of the base pastry which seems to work to make it fit well.
I have the deep filled one. Tip for that one: Construct cold but add hot filling and quickly put on lids, close, turn on. Speeds up cooking. Probably would work with the shallow pie maker too.
An extremely useful episode for me. I have looked at these on and off for some time, years and wondered. You have done me a big favour cos I like pies also. Please accept a penny from me with gratitude. :-)
. BTW - 250 ML is ONE American/Canadian cup. 😊 And your printed recipe calls for 250 Gm Beef which is 1/2 Lb.😊 . The Quest would be terrific as an electricity 'saving' device (going to need that).... Constructing the pies in in when COLD was brilliant. .
I love my kitchen gadgets, so I might well try one of those. Not a huge expense, and if it doesn't work out it can go to the charity shop like the Red Copper 5 minute chef did!
The pies looked good and tasty. But that's due to your filling. Being a stick in the mud, I bake about twelve at a time to keep me going. The machine is too much buggering about for me. I'll stick to trad. A good video and I can smell those pies here in Thailand.👍👍
I have one of those and it sits in the cupboard because I burned myself trying to assemble them when the machine had been preheated. I may try it again by using the same method you have and heat the machine once the pies are assembled... I'm curious how you got them out of the machine before they were cooked.
Those pies look rather titchy, but I might be tempted if I ever spot one of those gadgets in a charity shop. I often have offcuts of pastry or pots of surplus pie filling lurking in the freezer.
Well, hold me hands up time here. I thought 'here we go...sponsored freebie pile of shit' time...but no, paid for! £20! so then i thought add another fiver and get a arse wiping machine....useless! Shock horror!! it looked good! perfect for my needs [ pie n mash] lol. Hopefully, you'll do another test with homemade pastry, i want that burnt top crust!
Pies looks nice but I'm not going to buy one. Getting rid of unnecessary out of fashion old that I hardly and never use. I like making my pie pies the good old way

Yes Keef! Been using mine for about a year. Dead impressed. I glaze mine with egg wash and it doesn't go claggy. Get well soon! 🙂
Nice one Keef!! Get well soon buddy
Thank you, Chef!

Oh Keef ,I was hoping they were going to be crap but after that I’ll probably be on Amazon tomorrow ! 😂

Obviously it doesn't look as solid as a German car but the pies looked crunchy and delicious. Thank you very much Keef and cheers from Barcelona 👋👋👋
Dang! Now I'm hungry!
I’ve been making square pies in a “Breville” type sarnie toaster since the eighties. Just go to a charity shop and pick one up for a couple of quid.
Thanks for the tip. I've got a Breville sandwich toaster, but have never thought of making pies in it.
I love my kitchen gadgets, so I might well try one of those. Not a huge expense, and if it doesn't work out it can go to the charity shop like the Red Copper 5 minute chef did!
No problem if they are on the small size, you had the answer. Make 2... or more 😊

Don't forget the cheese Gromat!
I do this but with spring roll wrappers as the pastry. crispy and much less fat
Good idea 👍🏼
Brilliant idea. A pie shaped spring roll. Would that be classed as Brit/Asian fusion cuisine?
They look delicious! I think it would be tricky to get such a crispy crust in an oven or air fryer.

The answer to your last question is 'carefully'!
Hi Keef. Is there a gluten free version of pastry I can make pies from?
Those pies look rather titchy, but I might be tempted if I ever spot one of those gadgets in a charity shop. I often have offcuts of pastry or pots of surplus pie filling lurking in the freezer.
indeed..makes good looking pies. more gear! :(
Well, hold me hands up time here.

This is the sort of thing you use once then put it away to never be used again
I don't think it will be.
😂 silly goatie. When do you go grazing in the local field with your pie maker? 😂
Silly comment
Pies for weightwatchers 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
