I remember years ago doing my car test, it helped me to drive more smoothly to picture someone holding a glass of water in the car ( without spilling it ) less aggressive breaking etc.

Just wanted to say that thanks to your videos, I passed my driving test on my first attempt, three weeks ago in Drogheda. Binged watched your clips and advice the night previous, was an absolute necessity. A pity that the test centre is now closed in Drogheda, literally thousands of learner drivers left to carry out their test in unfamiliar towns.

Did that white van just skip the turn on the mini roundabout or was his vehicle too large to go around a semi circle towards the second exit? Hmm. 14:04.
He didn't skip anything, it is a mini roundabout which means roundabout rules apply which is what a driver has to follow, and its painted so vehicles can drive over it ... if there was enough space to drive around it then there would be a proper physical roundabout island there. Point being, you can drive over painted circle as long as you follow roundabout rules. You won't fail your test and you won't get fined for it.

I asked my instructor on my test before we got in the car to give me hand signals for left and right as he said them, as I get mixed up and he said "No not today" Very strict in Wilton. Please do some routes down here.

Hi Dane, these videos are so helpful thank you so so much! Preparing for my 4th (!!) driving test in Dublin and had a question on traffic lights. Scenario is am turning left out of a minor road (housing estate) onto a main road, and very shortly after the left turn there is a traffic light. If the light is red is it red for everyone or just the people on the main road (if making the turn you would have to pass or stop unless there is traffic built up at the lights)? Thank you so much, really appreciate your help here as can't seem to get a straight answer on this!!

If you’re driving an automatic and you’re stopped for a while at lights do you put the car in neutral and apply the hand brake or just leave it in drive and tap the hand brake button? (Mine goes off automatically then as soon as I tap the accelerator. Thank you :-)

I have my 3rd test coming up, it just seems like every time I have a test I receive horrible news (1st test my husband was diagnosed with cancer with surgery to remove it, second test he had to start chemo because they found new cancer cells, and now 3rd test 3years later they last month found it has spread and it's now stage 4 terminal) now I'm really above stressed because if I don't pass it, how the hell do I drive to and from hospital appointments he is far too weak to drive, and i can see how much pain hes in😭😭😭,and I have to take kids to and from school and activities 😢. I'm sht!ting myself because I know I'm not gonna pass because I just can't for the life of me reverse around a corner 😬 I can try the corner reverse 10 times but only manage to get it somewhat right once, even with a driving instructor 😭 I'm so screwed
I could sound stupid asking this but When you say to look behind on the reverse around the corner do you mean to turn your head and look out the back window (the boot window) or look in the rear view mirror

@@jackmurphy1691 I was told you need to be looking in the direction you're moving, I.e. out the back window. I kept my head turned around looking out the back window and every few seconds checking mirrors and the blind spot over my right shoulder, then back to looking out the rear window. I did my test on the 9th in Carlow and it was grand for the tester there.
Blindspots are over the shoulders, so yes you should be looking in the mirrors and over both shoulders for a better view. Sounds like they are both saying the exact same thing. If I'm just starting out with someone I'd get them to check mirrors and then gradually start checking over the shoulders as they improve and get more comfortable with the manoeuvre
Hi! If the filter lane is full, do you wait on left hand side? Even if it it means blocking cars behind you from going forward. I imagine you don’t drive into the road markings.
Well Dane your videos are a massive help in my preparations for my test but I was just wondering in relation to stopping at the line if I do stop a bit before the stop sign line would I be docked a mark
basically when you're driving you need to pretend like you're on O'Connell street about to get mugged and have a mental image of everything in front of you, behind you, and anticipate what might come out from around the corner.
I wouldn't have any experience with buses but I certainly think the planning ahead and reading the road ahead are the same, check out my commentary drive videos.
Can I ask if you would use your hand break if you were at lights on a hill if your in an automatic ? I don’t need to cause it won’t roll back but I don’t know if I should for the test ?
I failed recently in Finglas and frankly I found the feedback from the tester to be extremely vague. I could not understand why I was marked down on a number of items and even received a grade 3, something I did not receive with any driving instructor I had previous to the test.
Your videos were useful and instructive for my daughter, until you decided to make an unnecessary, disingenuous, and childish faux-pas, tarring cyclists with the same brush. Disappointing. Every road user has to be afforded the same respect, dignity and safety. Egalitarian transportation is only possible if the car is kept in check, after all, us motorists take up more space than bicycle and bus lanes put together. Not to mention the carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons, sulphur dioxide, and tiny toxic particles of rubber, synthetic plastics that our motors and tyres produce that get into the environment and lungs of everywhere and everyone. Remember please that you are in a position of responsibility and influence. My daughter won't be taking further guidance from you Sir. Perhaps this will be taken as some kind of victory for you, as your churlish remark was clearly designed to offend, if so, congratulations. And before anyone attempts to call us 'woke' please remember that anyone who uses that word requires a large W tattooed on their forehead. Que Pena.

If you’re driving an automatic and you’re stopped for a while at lights do you put the car in neutral and apply the hand brake or just leave it in drive and tap the hand brake button? (Mine goes off automatically then as soon as I tap the accelerator.

I have my 3rd test coming up, it just seems like every time I have a test I receive horrible news (1st test my husband was diagnosed with cancer with surgery to remove it, second test he had to start chemo because they found new cancer cells, and now 3rd test 3years later they last month found it has spread and it's now stage 4 terminal) now I'm really above stressed because if I don't pass it, how the hell do I drive to and from hospital appointments he is far too weak to drive, and i can see how much pain hes in😭😭😭,and I have to take kids to and from school and activities 😢.

I can try the corner reverse 10 times but only manage to get it somewhat right once, even with a driving instructor 😭 I'm so screwed
I could sound stupid asking this but When you say to look behind on the reverse around the corner do you mean to turn your head and look out the back window (the boot window) or look in the rear view mirror
Look out over both shoulders and the 3 mirrors
@@DaneTygheletsdrive yeh no I get ya the only reason I asked is my instructor told me to turn and look between the two front seat out the boot window when I'm doing the reverse around the corner I have my test in two week and my first instructor not my current one told me to just use mirrors and blindspot checks not boot window look so im kinda mixed up doctors differ and patients die vibes it just didn't seem right but fair enough
@@jackmurphy1691 I was told you need to be looking in the direction you're moving, I.e. out the back window. I kept my head turned around looking out the back window and every few seconds checking mirrors and the blind spot over my right shoulder, then back to looking out the rear window. I did my test on the 9th in Carlow and it was grand for the tester there.
Blindspots are over the shoulders, so yes you should be looking in the mirrors and over both shoulders for a better view. Sounds like they are both saying the exact same thing.
If I'm just starting out with someone I'd get them to check mirrors and then gradually start checking over the shoulders as they improve and get more comfortable with the manoeuvre

Hi! If the filter lane is full, do you wait on left hand side? Even if it it means blocking cars behind you from going forward. I imagine you don’t drive into the road markings.

Indicate early and that should not happen, slow down and stop if necessary. And hope for the best.
Just passed my test with 2 minor faults and 1 grade 2 …. The grade 2 was because I left my windshield wipers on for wayyyyy too long 💀😂

Yes you should because automatic cars do roll back and it's a good habit to get into
I failed recently in Finglas and frankly I found the feedback from the tester to be extremely vague. I could not understand why I was marked down on a number of items and even received a grade 3, something I did not receive with any driving instructor I had previous to the test.
I know some of the testers are terrible for feedback but doing a driving test is a lot different to the regular lessons.
I suffer from a stiff neck after a injury at work I have explained that in the past but I don't think it made a difference to them maybe I am wrong

Every road user has to be afforded the same respect, dignity and safety.
