Delegation Nursing NCLEX Questions Review: RN/LPN/UAP Duties, Scope of Practice

  • Delegation nursing review for the NCLEX exam.
What is delegation in nursing? It’s where a licensed nurse (RN) transfers responsibility to a person, who is competent, to perform a certain task for the nurse.
Purpose of delegation in nursing: It frees up the RN to care for more critical patients and complete other necessary tasks.
However, in delegation the RN is still ACCOUNTABLE (liable or responsible) for that delegated task getting done even though they are not the one doing it. Therefore, accountability is NOT transferred to that person performing the task.
It's important to remember not all tasks can be delegated to other nursing staff such as the LPN/LVN or UAP (nursing assistant). This is because some tasks are only within the RN’s scope of practice to perform.
This is where the RN should know when, how, and what tasks should be delegated. In addition, it's very important the RN is always familiar with their facilities and state's protocol (ex: who can do what...ex: some LPN can give IV medications in some states if they have training, while other states don't allow it).
When delegating it is important to follow the 5 Rights of Delegation:
    Right Task
    Right Circumstance
    Right Person
    Right Direction/Communication
    Right Supervision

I’m an LPN and I do everything but insert the IV... I set the pumps, give IM’s, full skilled assessments, give narcotics and potentially dangerous drugs, I get new admits daily, I educate for discharge and for meds, I never delegate due to trust issues though... I start my Lpn to adn in January of ‘21. The only reason I’m an Lpn is because of your videos and I thank you for all the knowledge,

I want to really thank you for the videos and all the information. I just passed my nclex - RN a couple of weeks ago and I am about to do orientation at my job soon, but I have been watching you since I did my pre reqs and your videos and information really helped get me through school. You are a valuable source for anyone entering into the nursing program and then after.

I took NCLEX PN for the first time on 7/27/18 with the minimum amount of questions & just recently found out that I passed! 😍 THANK YOU SO MUCH. Hi Sarah!
Thank you for all the videos you made for med surg, maternity and pediatrics. For all these courses, I watched your videos again and again. I think your videos are worth looking at, than reading books, which I never did. I passed my NCLEX with 75 questions with a lot of select all that apply. I did not read books at all, and still pass nclex in the first attempt. It’s because you are the best teacher. Your videos were like glucose to me and your voice was like normal saline, thank u thank u thank u thankkkkkkkkk uuuuuuuuuuu.... I will keep watching your videos, thank u...... God Bless You....

This is one of the HARDEST challenges for new nurses! Having to ask for help 🙀 and delegate tasks but you MUST do it in order to provide safe patient care! ☝️Also tough for TRAVEL and FLOAT nurses that simply don’t know the names of people so they don’t ask!! 👎 Become acquainted with the staff first thing so you know who to go for, for what! 🤓 Great job girl!! ♥️👌

    It’s your gift!!
    Godbless you always! 🤗😘😘😘
