He's one of the only golden era DJ's that has kept up with the pace of DJ technology.
Nuff said.
Has the tech but is still dope with his hands. Plus, he doesn't stare at his computer screen.
Jay Brown Agreed... Its boring innit
Stefan Lewis Don't forget about DJ Craze tho
Stefan Lewis try telling that to the lifeless mugs in the room staring at their phones in the video! mans a legend and they couldn't be any less bothered...
+Stefan Lewis the only one? Pete Rock, Premo, etc. etc... A lot of guys use traktor/serato nowadays. Nothing wrong with, although I prefer vinyl because I think it's super boring to spin records like this.
I have been into DJing for 30 years, as a keen amateur myself when a teenager, and a follower of many DJs during my adult life. This set is just so incredibly good, a combination of incredible old-school technique and use of modern technology, deep knowledge and experience, and originality. This guy (whom of course I followed in his early days) is just an absolute master. Pure class. Total respect.

+Hans Cuyacot wow, doing the Lord's work here. thanks so much.
+Hans Cuyacot Appreciate it!
Thanks a lot!
Gracias!
Wow thanks!!
OMG... when he cut up and brought in Public Enemy, Rakim, etc that sent OG chills up my spine. I miss the days when every DJ worthy of his tables had true skills, quality music selection/taste, and didn't just stand around pressing buttons. Jeff is an international Hip Hop treasure.
the absolute greatest! I'm from Philadelphia so I heard Jeff all the time. The worst thing you can do to greatness is take it for granted and the people in that room clearly don't understand what they're witnessing. DJ Jazzy Jeff is the best DJ EVER! The Illadelph is in the HOUSE!
Agreed. Some of them look bored. Why be there
I noticed that too. Also, that whole room set up is wrong. He should have been set up by the windows facing everyone.
@@sjelliott6660tbe lighting would be hard for the laptop viewing. I think its dope the way it is personally. They dont look bored they are taking in tbe greatness
Much props to Jazz, this man comes from an era where most of us "controller" DJ's wish we had the skilz to find records in creates just by the touch and mix them as if they are part of one song. To pitch bend, beat match, reloop all manually without the help from today's DJs controller/effects technology. And this man evolved to the new mixer/computer technology whilst still being true to the game of turntables, the one's and two's! Much respect to DJ Jazzy Jeff!
Calvin Watkins exactly. I bet he could go right back to vinyl and sound just as good.
Not that I am qualified to say it, but upon my over one thousandth time listening to this set, DJ Jazzy Jeff, I ACKNOWLEDGE YOU! Just simply the greatest. No matter the era of music, genre, or style, he seamlessly combines it into a groove. The best to ever do it.
LOOK AT ALL THE DIFFERENT RACES OF PEOPLE TOGETHER , I LOVE LONDON.. imiss living there
You mean like the 10 people in the room?
karizmaone yea , the 10 people but the city is like that to , stop hating and go see for yourself.... sarcasm is just hidden anger
Who's hating? I just think your statement that a group of 10 people is a representative cross-section of the cultural makeup of a city like London. I don't doubt it's diverse. I know it is...then again I'm from California so diversity is kind of a given out here. Thanks for the message on sarcasm. I'll be sure to keep that in mind when calling other people out on their ridiculous comments. Cheers
karizmaone a small group of people can indeed illustrate some parts of a society and its beliefs , the message on sarcasm is honest sorry you were offended, logically we do not know one another so our comments cannot be 100 valid .. but thank you for explaining yourself... and cheers for the banter. One of the best I have had on you tube.. you seem to be a cool person , keep rockin, keep free thinking, keep asking questions .
karizmaone furthermore in london i witnessed true diversity... not salad bowl diversity like we have here... different races of people live together, protest with one another ... have children together... hang out together without AMERICAN STYLE JUDGEMENT, this is why I told you to see for yourself.. experience something different to our system
I feel privileged to have seen him and Will perform "Girls of the World Ain't Nothing But Trouble" at a club in NYC called the Union Square in 1986.
What he's doing reminds me of when me and homeys used to practice in our barracks rooms back in the 80's when i first started spinning. Cats used to come over, and vibe, drink and smoke and shit. The DJ's would take turns playing sets...just gettin down. Jazzy Jeff is from that generation of DJ's. Listen to his music - he's taking us on a journey through sound. These days....folks are too spoiled, and just too mind dumb and shit to let good DJ's get down and do their thing like this. Thanks Jeff...you still keeping it real fam!
Jeff is to DJ's what Wynton Marsalis is to Jazz around the world.....
A music ambassador.
Nice & smooth that's rock'n ya dome.
Body sway'n back & forth like a metronome.
Truly the DJ's DJ. I love him to bits. x
Word
Respect a brother that has stayed true to his craft and passion..
this set threw uncle phil out the window
Ce Ele best comment ever
+Ce Ele hhahaha, was wondering when we would see a FPoBA reference.
😅 good old uncle phil
watch and wallet my guy
Yes absolutely and quite a ways from the estate 🙂
Damn...now i remember why I started dj'n as a kid back in 85 and as an old man i still love the craft. Thank YOU Magnificent JJ.
WOW.... 00:45:55 took me way back. It's the strangest feeling hearing a song you haven't heard since the 90's, but you get vivid flashbacks of your older sister playing that loud upstairs while I'm playing Super Nintendo in my room downstairs, and on hot Summer days having freeze pops on the front lawn, waiting for friends to come over so we can ride our bikes until the sun sets and we come back to have snacks and play video games.
Days on Cape Cod in the 90's...were like a dream.
Zhane? I get the same vibe, those 2 tracks were what set me on a 15 year career in the club scene as a DJ lol
Damn older sisters and their pre-go-out music : )
Jon Malach Anyone remember the fresh prince show with Carlton doing the Carlton Dance? lol
Nostalgia
damn :( I've always wanted to DJ...I really want to just finally get the equipment necessary and do it, but I'm broke and idk where to start.
Mark Hazleton Just do it bro.. get some second hand turntables with pitch control even cheap belt drives and a shitty old mixer and just START - best way to learn. WHen u eventually get the money together for quality direct drive turntables it will feel easy peasy :)
One of my favorite sets of all time 👌
Agreed so amazing
I usually listen to his mixes at work and while I drift away from the music, my body still lets me know how amazing this is, as i find myself having goosebumps or nodding my head to the beat. wow man, just wow.
Boiler - "ok chaps, so i have a great set idea. it will get us loads of views! We hire Jazzy Jeff! yes the world renowned, world class DJ JAZZY FUCKING JEFF!!!!"
Crowd - "thats a fab idea, shall we dance to his beats?"
Boiler - "Dance!, NO!!. of course not!!!"
Crowd - "shall we nod our heads?"
Boiler - "maybe a little, hmm actually no not really. No head nodding AT ALL!"
Crowd - "ok, we'll just sit n smile"
Boiler - "smile?, not fucking smiling!! I want dead pan faces all over"
Crowd - "OK, just sit there and watch him do his stuff"
Boiler - "Watch him??! No, just ignore him. use ya phones, talk amongst ya selves etc"
Crowd - "oh ok"
Boiler - "Understand?! Great, this is gonna be the best set yet!"
haha fucking hipsters
This probably actually happens
Isn't that the boiler room culture?
Tony Clifton well put.
I think they are more hypnotized more than anything , Cause that’s how I feel listening to how dope his blends are
I grew up on this guy, and still find myself fully amazed by his sets after 30 plus years he still is working at his craft and will always be my all time favorite DJ!!
Old school mix. Who needs a crowd/audience when the music and mixing is so well put together. This is all for the love of beats and mixing (skill), Every DJ wish they could. It's beautiful!
This set deserves more of a crowd worthy to be there.
These people look like they're at a Balenciaga fashion show.
they are worthy. you don't decide who is worthy based on appearances. what a fkd up way to talk about human beings. he should have had more people there who could give back though.
He killed the whole set, but I backed up to 50:44 at least 5 times. Dope transition!!!
GTA SA casino vibes
Without a doubt, Jeff is the best DJ on the planet. Not only is his track selection and mixing impeccable, he also maintains the soul and showmanship that the originators brought to the art. I'm looking at you superstar EDM djs. Take note because this is how it's done.
One love Jazzy Jeff and thank God you're still bringing it.
There was guy from Brisbane Australia called Dj Angus or Dj Bribe. He used to scratch dma performing in the dma’s and even mentioned by Public Enemy. Later on in the 90s he started playing dance music, techno and happy hardcore. He would transfer his skills from hip hop scratch mixing to high bpm high energy dance music. Now this is scratching an beat juggling at 140+ bpm. Not all dance djs mix simple.
I'm been digging Dj Jazzy Jeff since the 80's. my opinion he is the greatest pure dj of all time. Big ups Jeff!!!!! This is fire!!!!!!!
Without a doubt the best Boiler Room performance. Such an OG.
I remember standing in line totally drunk at the door of Kater Blau (a Berlin Techno club), when the bouncer asked my friend "Who is playing tonight?" to test, if we are into techno music and fit the audience. My friends answer "I don't know - DJ Jazzy Jeff?" - Bouncer: "No i dont even know who that is. Today is not your day man - please leave" My friend: "Well if you dont even know Jazzy Jeff, I dont't wanna get involved with your bullshit club anyways" and then he walked of. i laughed so hard, i had tears in my eyes.
Mr Branch and The B checking in
Go TDks and Casios and a Panasonic's and Great Computers abd systems.
if I was in this room I'd be going HYPE!!! they don't know who is in the room with them
They were just afraid he would steal their bikes.
neomix21 lmao
AAHHAHAH!
for reals i would have been stuck jaw drop! and then went nuts!!!
they know exactly who it is bruh, everyone in there probably loves him 10x as much as anybody watching on youtube

I haven't even listened to the set yet but I shed a tear over this list.
I'm 52yrs old and I been listening to this legend since I was 16yrs old in the 10th grade in 1984. And he still is the top DJ INNOVATOR in the WORLD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I could listen to him spin all day and night. SMOOT as silk, his repetoire and knowledge of music is unparalleled. What a journey! I cannot get over how much music he packed into this session. Utterly incredible! Every 3 minutes I was like, "DAAAYUUUMMMMM!" STRAIGHT UP DJ ROYALTY RIGHT THURRRRRR!
The song that begins at 1:04:38 is called 'If (Kaytranada Mix)' by Janet Jackson, for anybody that wants to know.
you r an amazing person
I was to say the same. Merci beaucoup
I can still remember being in a battle off between DJ Cheese, Jazzy Jeff, and Grandmaster Flash in Plainfield NJ. One of the best nights ever.
Check out Cheese on Facebook. He's very friendly and I am sure he would appreciate you sharing that memory.
Nj proud
This is one of the better boiler room sets ive heard, im constantly listening to this over and over again cause the selection of music and just how he smoothly transitions
To those who don't like the way JAZZY JEFF did this mix (for example using Traktor)...
I'm pretty sure that JAZZY JEFF will be open for a battle "à la Oldskool" (2 TT + 1 mixer + Vinyl only).
Digital DJs, are you ready?
Jeff is a legend & my favourite DJ of all time.
It's Jazzy!! Doing what he do Straight Ministry Heat!!
One of the greatest... knowledge, experience and finest skills... my deepest respect to Jazzy Jeff.
1 of the best DJ'S of all time! Still going old skool with his ears & hands making the magic. Everything else is just a bonus. Been a Jeff fan since the 80's.
real tables, real wax, real needles...REAL SKILLS
Beast Mode son!!!!
bottle2lip
serato + ableton bridge actually
To me, there's no "right" or "wrong" way to DJ. lest you forget, we exist for the crowd. If you can get them dancing using your iPhone, who am I to judge?
digitalsaint2040 he's not using real vinyl...
Logan Bordelon ...and because we exist for the crowd, if you can do on two turntables what others require software for, well... enough said.
I never type anything on youtube, but I gotta say DJ Jazzy Jeff is seriously out of this world. If I'm not mistaken he created the transformer scratch.
This blend of all kinds of music is outstanding and he needs to be applauded for his impeccable DJ skills and musicianship. All my real HIPHOP heads standup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
blackvincentprice actually dj spin bad from philly invented the transformer scratch but dj cash money and jeff took it to another level.
Here in 2024! Love it still!
Today is Friday 27 January 2017, the sun is shining and my ass is at work but I got "The Man" here helping me groove the day away.
Thanks Jeff
When he mixed Sade at 20:00, i dropped the mic. Jazz is the best to ever do it!
Man that's all you had to say 20:00 he went into clean and crisp mode
FAVOURITE DJ SET EVER HE WENT FROM KENDRICK LAMAR TO FELA KUTI
Credit to Jazzy Jeff to props on how he loves to give the crowd what they want.. It's a gift to DJ's who love truly who embrace the crowd and he did this gracefully to the London crowd.. The awesome thing is about DJ's its so graceful and so like embracing the element at the moment... always spontaneous... Im just a average DJ.. but I had a good time at Eglin AFB... never forgot it...
I was a DJ for many years & Jazzy Jeff was always my favorite. The variety & skills are self-evident. He combined mixing & transforming at an incredible level.. always a hero to me. 1Love
DJ JAZZY JEFF GOT MASSIVE RESPECT FROM DJ'S ALL OVER THE WORLD
Just for future reference the music starts at 13:00 (1:06:30)
I really feel what he talked about music in the start. PS - The people around him look like they're on detention or deaf.
I cant help but dance & bob my head to every song!!! The energy & vibrations have my soul in utter bliss!!! Thank you DJ Jazzy Jeff 😊💥💫🫶

That Sade Drop. Pure Sickness!!
When he mixed Sade, I fell out my chair...DAMN, that's dope....I'm drugged.

50:45-51:35 is EXACTLY what make DJ JAZZY JEFF THE BEST AND MOST IMPORTANT DJs ON THE PLANET! THIS IS GENIUS! YOU FAKE BUM ASS DJs PAY ATTENTION!!!!!
also that transition at 16:02
The magnificent Jazzy Jeff, still the greatest. His knowledge of music programming, samples used in songs, breakbeats, crossing genres, play and strings songs together while keeping it funky is unparalleled.
DJ Jazzy Jeff is the best DJ I ever heard live and he still got it!
He went to Sade!. Jazzy Jeff is a beast
Nobody even flinched in there. Id have been up on my toes. Especially when 'Sweat the technique' came in..

A "TRUE" Mixmaster at work....Salute!!! The reason that i work at my craft EVERYDAY!! Thank You DJ Jazzy Jeff.
Why do the people look like they're on a bench waiting for a bus to come!? SMH!
The master at his work.....
genius...pharrell,james brown, stevie wonder...and also lenny kravitz!!!!...one of the best sets i've seen on boiler room...
Best in the world right here, they should show a little more respect.
+Jake Equilar At least Jazzy got paid... I guess he wanted to transmit too. People don't understand what's happening to music culture more and more owadays, they would have been prepared for such event... He gave extracts of music history!
Don't ask why new generations go wrong with actual music, not knowing how good the vibe can be and reject todays' mainstream music and style...
+reshi pn well one of the best
+Jake Equilar Nah only if you are American..he;s living in the past....
+Chillednfunked You must be crazy. Living in the past. Really? Your watching one of the best do it. You really think he doesn't have current material? He's creating art right here. I don't know you, but you can only wish to be that nice. A true Dj can paint a picture with music from past and future and that's what he's doing.
Interesting. I think anything he touches with his skill set and experience would be awesome.
Missy Eliot."I cant stand the rain"..did it for me..
This is an education from a Master Dj many people these days don't appreciate the eclectic nature of music past and present of all Jazzy Jeff is a true musical mentor..
I am not worthy... DJ Jazzy Jeff is a god among mere mortals... Timeless, could listen to this all day non-stop. gotta get me some more Magnificent Jazzy...
men love the all round types of music that you just mixed.
Woo! at the scratching into the public enemy song at 50:26
Night of the living baseheads
Saw this man kill it in Chicago, summer 2018. Incredible set.
learning new stuff + music= me happy
This dude takes a shit question and says his dad played with Count Basie, without insulting her. Much respect.
Watching this makes me want to learn how to do this so badly!
Philly's finest DJ the one and only!!! the Touch of Jazz
The Happy mix, put a big smile on my face I used to sing and dance to it to my late 5 yr old son...Gracias 💙💙
one of the best to ever do it!!!!!!

It looks like Jeff has dropped in on a Krokodil documentary in Russia.
Chris Pinder facking classic mate . couldn't have said it better myself
The Magnificent.....Legendary Jazzy Jeff Townes
he had me at Cherish The Day. anybody who puts Sade in the mix must be G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time). honourable mention to Stevie W, James B, and those original West Coast tracks sampled by Dre. Philly 4 ever...!!!
he is the dj's, dj. I have not done it in 20 plus years and the technology made this guy even better. A lot of dj's say they were good when they were not; I was good and Jeff was definitely better.

That Night of the Living Baseheads cut at the 50:00 mark is SERIOUS!!!!!
Anytime I hear PE I am happy:)
I honestly don't know how anyone is sitting down. I would be up, neck broken from nodding the shit outta my head, big ass smile on my face. This set is fucking gold and Jazzy is ... well, magnificent as ever.
This sounds a lot like the SummerTime Series he does with Mick Boogie. One of the best kept secrets I stumbled on when I decided to download SummerTime Vol.1 a few years back....now I can't wait until next summer.
These Brits have a world famous hip hop dj and they are not not even getting into jazzy Jeff grove. They are clueless!
They know who he is mate...
George Brown I know right, why else would Jeff be featured to mix and have his set played live?
it's called humble respect. i'm not about to bounce up in a legend's face. something you learn as you grow.
He's djing to be enjoyed, not to be danced to, this might boggle some one like your's mind though. The fact that he's not offended should give you some sort of clue that nothing is wrong.

I think, it has more to do with the environment than "respect". Would you not dance in a club full of people dancing just because a legendary DJ was playing?
Be careful with the scratching - last time uncle Phil threw you out :-)
hahah classic comment...
thats soo funny i just watched that episode today
bernard clarke
what episode does he get thrown out?
Can't reply to the last comment due to being on the phone. However, season 1 episode 2 is the episode this references.
Steen Pedersen lol
#LEGENDARYDJ. I was at the UNION Square in 1985 when he did the transformer scratch to "Dance to the Drummers Beat"
It as real good up to the point Sade came into the mix, that bumped it up to another level from then on out! So good!!!
bruhhh.. that erykah badu missy edit is fire
When that Sade came on doe... #classic
Whenever I watch this video I always catch a handful of things I haven't seen or paid attention to before. This mix stays dope because of the hands of the DJ!
Classic from a Classic D.J. Jazzy Jeff!!!!
love the sade cut wild mix
