For the sake of 0.14” it really should’ve been sub 3”. Yes, the cutting edge is sub 3”, but the legislation is vague and as Nick is always saying “it depends whether the cop likes you or not!” If he wants to confiscate it, are you going to go to court to get it back? ....for $175?
the isham bladeworks blackstar looks like an easy-to-disassemble/reassemble sort of slipjoint. the spring tension is coming from sub-liners on the sides instead of a backspring, which makes it easier to get back together.
I have a JE Made Zulu and it’s great. I carry it more than my Proper. Something about the upgraded steel and titanium just draws me to it. I may have to check out V.2.
i even got 2 pouches for my new york special (one in cloth and one in leather)!😃 j.e. made has to be one of the most underrated knife makers, his / their stuff is just beyond excellent. he's the reate of slippies in terms of quality and fit'n'finish.
Thanks Nick! You sold me with this and the disassembly video. Just ordered one from DLT. Now I need to figure out which Hitch n Timber slip will work. Been wanting one that I can carry cards and cash as well. The knife about 4” closed?? Keep those excellent videos coming!!
Forgot to mention, a slip joint legal nearly everywhere that you can strip down, love the enthusiasm of your joy at a strip down trad, and my other EDC is my Enzo 3inch,scandi grind. As I mentioned, a classy little knife, but I am an old git and prefer older softer styles
They give you replacement parts? They don't void the warranty if you take it apart? No fricken way. Hopefully some big time knife companies watch this. Thanks for another great video and happy New Year.
A bit Expensive compared to a Lionsteel Roundhead. Perhaps a bit easier to acquire. I’m a fan of modern slippies bc legality. I have a gen 1 JE Made and it’s nice but I prefer the Lionsteel Roundhead or Dom.
Love to see you clarify exactly where you are ordering yours from and who makes these? JE Knives seems to be a guy called Jon Elmer out of Australia (www.je-knives.com) and the only JE knives I found in on-line shops like www.gpknives.com listed their JE Made knives as coming from China by "Custom Knives". Thanks in advance.
I might be crazy but comparing the satin on mine to the satin on some of my reate knives ...the pouch...the hardware. Wondering if the same hands have been working the knives (if not the quality is same) which really just makes it an even stronger value at 180....
Oh yes, I want one! It’s a mite too long, but sufficiently ‘arguable’ for a man of my age (and a wheelchair user) that I’m willing to run the risk! Only question remains is how am I going to get one here in the UK!
Hi Nick; have you seen the ATS version in D2 and G10? I'd love to hear your take on how it compares to this knife (and also how it fares in its own right). Keep up the great work anyway. Cheers
Nice knife, as a UK resident probably legal. I collect class knives, in my opinion, but cannot carry them on the street. The usual EDC for a knife would be a Cld Steel Lucky or a GEC 920114. I like the idea of modern blade steels on old bone and wood handles. There is definitely a notch in knife carrying for small classy old style pocket jewellery, modern, but I am an old git and prefer razor sharp edges with wood and bone handles, things to be cherished and used, some not really used, there is the madness, classy stuff, gentlemen stuff. We all crazy, us guys wiv our stuff.
I have his Loveless/NY Special pattern w/ the CF inlays and it is spectacular besides the lack of finger choil. I love the materials and aesthetics. Would like to pick up a matching V2 Slipjoint or Zulu.
Nick I have a Quick Question... I only own full tang blades. A 1095 ESEE-5 and a AUG8 Seal Pup Elite. I am not a pro sharpener. I want to purchase a folder. I am leaning towards the Spyderco Manix 2 or PM2. I can get the manix 2 in BD1 or the PM2 in s35vn. Of course there is a sprint edition of the Manix 2 in s90v steel in my price range with a nice burl g-10 handle. But I worry about being able to resharpen the s90v. What do you recommend? Maybe a 2nd question, what other contenders would you recommend within a $150 budget? I forgot to mention I carry a Leatherman Surge on my belt everyday. So in terms of intent it would be more of a knife that excels in deployment speed. Thanks in advance, Awesome channel! I subbed.
S35vn is an awesome steel. Great edge retention and not too bad to sharpen. Honestly I don’t think s90v is that difficult to sharpen either but I’m not sure if it’s worth it. I’d say it’s personal choice of how it feels in the hand. I like the pm2 more and I think most people would agree. But some people like the blade shape of the manic better and have that as their priority. Or heck maybe you love the blurple color of the s90v. Buy whichever one gives you the most joy for whatever reason. Don’t get too wrapped up in what everyone tells you to do. Both are great knives and you’ll enjoy whichever you choose. Good luck!
Wondering why you measure blade length the way you do. Measure cutting surface only maybe? Humble follower, HAPPY NEW YEAR !! I do enjoy your reviews..
I'm so surprised you review this smaller Chinese brand. The knife law only allows non-locking knife in China that's most of JE's knife is slipjoint or fixed blade. I had a mini Zulu and it's an amazing small knife. This JE guy also is known to have very good heat treatment on his blade back in China.
Of the back of this, I just bought one, and it’s superb! I still love my ADVs, but this is £100 cheaper and probably even better in use. I went for the CF scales which are 15% lighter and put the POB right on the bolster line. Thanks for the tip Nick. My video will be up by 28/05/19.
When it comes to electronics I don't have a choice as to the country from where it was made. China has successfully cornered the market with electronic components. When it comes to knives, I do have a choice,,,,,, at least for now. BTW, if I could by a phone that is made in Japan or Taiwan or the U.S. or South Korea, or Italy, or Germany or any other country that has labor laws and civil rights, that are at least somewhat comparable to ours, I would. Also, I am not criticizing anyone for buying a Chinese made knife, but I cannot in good conscience do so. I don't like their human rights record, I don't believe in child labor, and I don't believe in slavery, or communism.
I love the spare parts. More brands should do that.
Huge fan of them sending spare parts. Thats awesome! Very cool piece!
@Metal Complex love your channel bro!
@@jakefromstatefarm1405 Thank you!! 😃
I think the price hike is earned. His design innovations came from alot of work and he improved his product to the point you called it a gem.
Would have been a good idea to make the blade under 3".
I agree, perhaps i could round off the tip to make it UK legal ;)

Cutting edge 3 inches or less, look where Nick measured it from

Uh-oh! Limited availability before "Gemdom"... I smell Skaha scarcity!

I love that Rocket takes time off from guarding the galaxy to put on human-hand-shaped gloves and review knives.

I got the CF version today. I really like it. Time for the honeymoon. Mine isn't numbered, but it did come with a full set of replacement hardware.

Where'd you get that buck 110? Haven't seen those kind of scales before.
Would love to see some cf and g10 with ti bolsters or maybe just as inlays
Nice review as always

JE Knives is most definitely not Jon Elmer out of Australia. This is a knifemaker from China named JiYiChen. Try harder.

Very good intro video sir. How is the centering of this piece ?

Is this version with the disassembly tool currently available ? It doesn't seem to exist, or no one is mentioning the tool in their description.

Not to mention his HT on the S35vn is great.. better than most I have seen.
Got mine today in the mail. Mine does not have any of the numbering like yours. Seems odd..
Awesome knife!!
Taper 😀. Great review, I’m slowly warming to slip joints
Hey Nick, how's the warranty on these? How do you contact them?
WOW! Thats a good looking knife!
The Chris Reeves Impinda is a similar style and size.
Very nice blade shape
now car guys can also get matching numbers knives

I love my Manix 2, as far as sharpening I can't really help there.

Humble follower, HAPPY NEW YEAR !! I do enjoy your reviews..
Because that's how areas that have length restrictions tend to measure, unfortunately
He measures blade length that way because a cop will measure it that way to see if he can use your knife as an excuse to arrest you
That's a beautiful knife

If that lovely blade was a hair under three inches it would've been ideal for here in the UK.
It is - the cutting edge is under 3 inches, which is what the UK law requires.
Been thinking about a Zulu. I think I'm gonna pull the trigger.

Is this actually made by WE Knives.. ??
nope but the owners are friends
Are you the kid on the Goldbergs?
This or a Kizer zipslip?
I like the Zipslip but Jiyi Chen offers a great pocketknife hand-finished for under $200. I'd snag one if you can.
You had me at replacement hardware. 175.......
$180 now
Very nice! A bit pricey.
"Crud collextrous"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Make this with a 2.5" blade. Please.
JE made do offer a 2" blade mini version
Wilfred Bao yeah, I have that one. It's tiny.
Knife-vanna achieved
Large little knife? 😐
Shame on them for font choice
I just never saw the need to stray from back locks....
Legality in a lot of places, in the UK and most of Europe you can't edc a locking blade
Too expensive. Sorry.
too modern and clean for me...for me it has just no soul...maybe natural micarta or good old wood scales with bolsters...
there are ones with really cool inlays. but im not sure they are available outside of china
I beg to differ, $175 for a slip joint knife is not a good thing.
I like it. Too bad it's made in China, so I can't buy it.
David Childers sell your phone then
