The in-depth breakdown of the math was the actual star of the show here for me. I just started playing, so knowing how damage numbers actually stack as I work on getting BiS equipment is great. Thanks for it!
I cannot thank you enough for doing a video like this, i already knew the math for most things but its still nice to make sure that it is correct for things. This helps a lot teaching new players about dmg scaling in the best way possible (i learned this the hard way in a another game which i refuse to name or promote due to the developers actions). This also helps clear up what i heard another youtuber, (cannot remember who it was, still even if i did i would not call them out) say that additive is better multiplicative, and it is clearly not the case in almost every situation and you thankfully proved it here with math and the very basics. I have wanted to make a program to make stuff like this super simple for people to use (open source), however knowing myself, i can't code for my life properly and there is still A LOT to take into consideration more than just a single bullet dmg number. Examples are critical rate, which will improve your damage overall by a % but its never guaranteed due to randomness, and another example is the weapons attributes. In this case the SOCR depends on the 4 procs to trigger a shrapnel and also depending on the critical rate chance, which makes things more difficult, and that is not including things as reloading weapon time, or the RNG to get a bullet back IF it hits a weaspot (with mod on ofc), how long do you have to shoot, burst or prolonged period of time, weakspot only enemy, no weakspots on enemy, and so on. It gets insane messy to do the calculations correctly for all of that. Maybe one day ill try to tackle it when i learn to code, and better, and when i get the courage to tackle such a complicated issue. Maybe one day someone else with tackle before me. Still thank you for this video, probably one of the few videos that tries to teach people properly with the math shown (other games obviously do stuff like this) and its a big start hopefully to getting better at the game.
Also later in the video you ask about what's best for blue mods, those are the easiest to farm for a perfect roll, the highest you can naturally get a blue mod is 1 blue and 1 green, then you upgrade the mod once and it's both blue, the substat for the mods cannot pass the rarity of the mod. I have a couple perfect substat rolled mods for different builds if in case they are good to use.
Thanks! Yep, it gets real messy which is why I really enjoy it. Combination of using some math to work out what should perform better, then testing to see if it is actually true. And then a great thing is it really depends on play style, can't just left clock, have to play to your build. Thanks for all the support

Thank you for making sense of a boat load of poorly explained MODS & information! I was already using most of the MODS that tested the best but you helped me choose the best one from my dupes of them. My 1st team boss run after making changes from your video: I did more damage than my other 3 teammates combined!! 😂😂😂
I really appreciate the math you put into this. Watching you explain it helps to understand so much better. I do have to wonder though, was this video made prior to them changing the mod "Obliterate" to "Shatter Them All" and changing the stats to "up to 45%"? I tried both Shatter Them All and Shrapnel Souvenir and Shrapnel Souvenir did more DPS than Shatter Them All every time.
Yeah was made when was obliterate. I have gotten better at some of those calculations too, wouldn't be surprised if Souvenir is outperforming. With similar JAWS set-up, it's "never reload" build starts beating everything else after the 2nd magazine
i am so glad to see this again i am a tide vet, watched and played it with PartyKnife, and watched Fog Of War about division, sadly both of them stopped making videos questions : - is the lmg shrapnel proc code is the same as the rifle ? meaning the text is backwards, is it actually procs every 12 hit or have 12 % ? - which is better for shrapnel build, the rifle or the lmg ? - what do you think which build is " better ", sharpnel or bounce ? - how do you exactly " mark " enemies ? and personal opinion : i am a sniper at heart but its so sad no game " allow " that playstyle ( or dot, both very situational ) especially considering consisteny which i prefer more, while crit builds always the most efficient with sr you have to hit weakspot, if the target even have one, lose a lot of spatial awareness and missing is extremely punishing, or on the other hand, dots are straight up useless against enemies who only have weakspot, not to mention dot stacks are limited, and it takes multiple procs with maxed stacks to even come close in damage compared to just hit it again once
So the precision style with double crit rate I think is best. I actually couldnt get one, BUT I am pretty sure the effect that has "attack +" on the calibration is weapon damage. Havent been able to test it, but that is huge to have a straight up weapon damage all the time on teh weapon.
thanks for sharing and appreciate your work. not sure if anyone has said this already but at 50:10 you got a bit muddled and to get the percent extra damage you would need to do: (2369-2118)/2369 then multiply by 100. which is 10.59% Thanks again for your work man hope this helps
Love the video and the breakdown! Thank you for doing this. Only question is what Armor pieces/set/combos did you find are the best to support this? I know you compare the beret to the Gas-tight, but what about everything else? Should we be shooting for Gas-tight + 3 Lone Wolf pieces + 2 Bastille pieces? - or - Gas-tight + 2 Lone Wolf + 3 Bastille -or- something else entirely?
Great video man, only use i can think for souvenir is when you try to end a pro boss before they get into another phase, or maybe to have less reload on PW due to the intense server lag. But yeah like you I also go for whatever mod has most decent substats, but I usually aim for mods with at least 6+ initial points into them on drop before investing anything, so when I +5 a mod i get 11 points at the very least. I dont know what the max is but highest I ever got was 8 initial points which will look like purple-purple-blue-grey or blue-blue-blue-blue, and if their stats are somewhat desirable, it makes them far superior to any other mod already since you can +5 those fat numbers already. I cant confirm if the 8pts mods I have are exclusive to pro modes since when I farm them I dont pay attention, I just keep going for as long as my irl sanity can keep up with these runs to beat RNG lol. But yeah your video was pretty nice cuz it made me realize I have a lot of really powerful weakspot mods I could take a look at. Thanks!
Real good points re: souvenir. I was thinking the same thing with a pro boss. Had a couple times where I have been just short of finishing them and then get smacked with an attack during the reload. Also, yeah, I dont know if there is a rule for how many points you get per mod for a pro activity, apart from just getting an epic attribute. Interesting thought. And yeah, you are exactly right, attribute stats are a huge part that I dont think are really mentioned during build videos, more of a focus on "y" and "x" mod. Appreciate the support.
That was on my to do list, but if it is shrap crit it should be in the same damage pool as normal crit. I will look into that, maybe it stacks like obliterate, otheriwse it would just be worse.
This is an Excellent* video. my only question left (and maybe I just missed it?) is what armor set combos you recommend. 3pc vs 4pc Lone Wolf? what other 2pc combo would you mix in?
While I don't want to watch an hour video just to understand mods in a game, that's not your fault, developers have really over complicated things. Great quality video and good work mate.
I think these first videos are longer just to understand, but after that, it is really just summarising how damage stacks. Once everyone know that, videos will be pretty quick
Fck me. Finally some content creator with brain and will to test stuff before publishing yet another "best ultimate shrapnel build" He even knows about the VALOR incorrect description that was there from cbt1..... I really like your analysis on Souvenir vs Obliterate. I could sense the result in my bones but not had the time to test it like you did. Well done man. Sub
Amazing video, thank you for the effort! Did you test different armor set combos? Eg Falcon vs Bastille vs Lonewolf vs combinations of them? I currently use 4x lonewolf, 1x bastille and beret.
No unfortunately, didn't have enough starchrom. Eventually, I will have enough to compare sets as well. I think theoretically what you have is best. X4 lone wolf and x1 Bastille.
Great video! 1 question tho: i see you using only 2 pieces of the lone wolf? i have 3 and was about to buy the 4th from the set. but now im really unsure what to do. Thank you for taking your time making this!
That was just for testing because when you start getting a bunch of different buffs you have to wait for them to disappear before the next round of testing. X1 baret, x4 lone wolf and x1 Bastille is great.
I've watched it all and agreed with your points especially with Shrapnel Souvenir which I think is not reliable on some of the bosses, and as of now I'm trying to go with Beret + Obliterate. If I may ask, which calibration should I go for my rifle? I bought Rapid double crit but accidentally put it on my 1* Rifle instead of my 3*, now I have Precision double crit (13.4%) and Assault double crit (14%) and debating which one should I put on my 3* (leaning towards Precision since Assault reduces my mag) and after that, do I still try to search for Rapit double crit? tyia! Also genuinely think this is the best guide vid I've watched
I could never get the precision double crit, but I believe the "attack" is straight up weapon damage. So it is really really good, if you have attack and double crit rate.
Thank you very much for the video! extremely useful for a new player on how to understand what to stack and how stacking and dmg works in this game! really helpful even if not doing a shrapnel build! @MoreMyelinGame Q: *What Armor Pieces should I use with the BIS build you showcased to us?* Beside Beret, do i go full lone wolf, bastille or?
Great video! I will be switching over to Obliterate now. One question though, I admit I didn't watch some of the longer beginning segments, but what makes Targeted Strike best for the mask slot, when and how is the target getting marked for the mod to work?
yo, sorry, I didnt explain that well. There are three main weapons you can use to mark. The crossbow, the wildfire pistol, and teh bingo sniper rifle. It it invovles using those weapons to mark the target, then you switch to your last valor to start damage.
Just a slight clarification, it isn't that every time you trigger shrapnel with a crit it will hit an additional time but every time you hit a crit all shrapnel hits for 1 second will hit an additional time. You can see this 1 second buff timer above your stamina, sanity, hunger/thirst meters.
glad im stmbled on this vids,,yes its takes a lot of time,,but the knowledge man,,cheers to you for testing it, bfore i was using bulls eye every time , but now i kinda tired for aim for the head always,, but i still considering using renegade for shrapnel,,isnt it works? like 3 piece renegade and 2 piece lonewolf?
I am making a input and output damage spreadsheet the only thing i found to be missing is Shrapnel weakspot dmg which can be important for stuff like manibus crisis , manibus prime war, or if you miss the weakspot for whatever reason that is besides that holy this was a nightmare and congrats on all you have made
good points on the manibus, good example of somethign that has tough weakspot and shrapnel damage with weakspot becomes super important! I am sure you picked it up from the video, but for you spreadsheet, shrapnel weakspot dmg is just your weakspot damage value (and multiplied by any other buckets of damage i.e. enemy type, weapon damage, and shrapnel damage from obliterate).
The Souvenir mod definitely has its place. I play with a Controller and me hitting consistent weakspots is not happening :P. So I build around Souvenir, it’s important to take the Shrapnel Carnage mod in the mask slot. And you basically have to use Fateful Strikes, because Momentum-Up doesn’t work (you almost never hit the lower half of the mag for the dmg bonus). I also switched from Crossbow to the Wildfire Pistol pretty quickly. Again Crossbow needs to hit a weakspot. With the wildfire you just dump 2-3 bullets and mark the enemy (or multiple) fast. Sure you don’t get the increased crit rate but you get increases weapon damage if you only fight against one enemy. This combination is the perfect lazy build and / or Controller build. Just hit the body, almost no need to reload. Great for prime wars when reloading is sometimes not possible because of lag. And I don’t see my damage to fall off compared to other players. I played with a lot of random groups and Warband groups in Monos, Silos and Lea. It just works great - but I have to admit, that I got good rolls on my mods. But yes, a good player with an Obliterate build that is able to hit weakspost often will outperform my build, no question.
yep, agree with all of that. I played mostly like this for silos (even with mouse and keyboard). If you pair everythign properly, the damage numbers are really close. This game is actually really balanced once you know what to look for.
i dunno if u mention that or not. But the socr does extra dmg vs rosetta and less dmg vs dummy "?". So sometimes you dont see ur true dmg depending on the enemy type and affixes. Pay that in mind when you are on a harder content like normal/hard mode server that u also have to deal with mutations on the enemies as well as enemies with shields "anomaly". As well as each season/server might have different cradle passive buffs.
I came for a game video…I’m here now with a backpack, three ring binder, corrective glasses, a calculator, three pencils and a sack lunch. Math class is in session!!!
Question. Did you ever try/figure out what "Attack +XX%" does? Which the Bingo has ,for example? "After killing an enemy with a weakspot hit, Attack +15% for 20s" is this a simple Damage buff and is multiplicately applied like Weapon DMG and Enemy DMG? Or does it work differently? It would be a great DMG boost to kill adds with the Bingo and then moving back to the Socr if it's an actualy 15% overall DMG boost.
yep! Dont know if you have seen my more recent videos, but Attack stat directly buffs your actual DMG stat in your stat page. Similar to using better bullets. One of the best stats in the game, as it is often a true percentage increase. So it is multiplicatively with everything (except elemental/status stuff which doesnt use DMG in calculation).
Huge effort, thank you! Question: You said Beret vs Firefighter is a 1% difference in favor of Firefighter. "It ends up catching up to the firefighter mask in most scenarios". Or do you recommend Beret because at 1% difference, you favor the fact Beret is more consistent but technically Firefighter is the BIS helm?
Here are some more stats from testing. Targeted strike with Baret VS Targeted strike with Firefighter = Firefighter 7.2% better. Targed strike Baret with Obliterate VS Targeted strike with Firefighter with Obliterate = Firefighter 1% better. Very similar results with explosive shrapnel; firefighter was 5% better without obliterate, but with obliterate only 1% better. Basically, because obliterate is best in slot for your weapon mod baret is competing with firefighter. Baret is free during a quest and Firefighter cost 8K starchrom. You are not going to see a huge jump in damage if you get the firefighter, and if anything, sometimes the baret outperforms it because of the randomness of the shrapnel. which is why I dont recommend it in videos, becasue you could almost buy three pieces of lone wolf set (for 9K) that would really increase your damage. So yeah, you are right. Technically firefighter is the best, but dont expect a huge damage bump, and also expect that baret sometimes out performs just based on random shrapnel. If they ever introduce another weapon mod that benefits firefighter over baret, that is when it could be worth the starchrom. And yep, I mark targets with bingo or the crossbow. Thanks for checking out the video and the question!

This is amazing work , thank u
Helps a lot. Thanks!
to save ppl some confusion: "Obliterate" apparently got renamed to "Shatter them All"
good video man
Thank you!
God bless you for this video, or master class I should say.
i am so glad to see this again
i am a tide vet, watched and played it with PartyKnife, and watched Fog Of War about division, sadly both of them stopped making videos
questions :
- is the lmg shrapnel proc code is the same as the rifle ? meaning the text is backwards, is it actually procs every 12 hit or have 12 % ?
- which is better for shrapnel build, the rifle or the lmg ?
- what do you think which build is " better ", sharpnel or bounce ?
- how do you exactly " mark " enemies ?
and personal opinion : i am a sniper at heart but its so sad no game " allow " that playstyle ( or dot, both very situational ) especially considering consisteny which i prefer more, while crit builds always the most efficient
with sr you have to hit weakspot, if the target even have one, lose a lot of spatial awareness and missing is extremely punishing, or on the other hand, dots are straight up useless against enemies who only have weakspot, not to mention dot stacks are limited, and it takes multiple procs with maxed stacks to even come close in damage compared to just hit it again once
Great video, got so much clarity on game damage system and shrapnel. Also which calibration style is recommended?
So the precision style with double crit rate I think is best. I actually couldnt get one, BUT I am pretty sure the effect that has "attack +" on the calibration is weapon damage. Havent been able to test it, but that is huge to have a straight up weapon damage all the time on teh weapon.
thanks for sharing and appreciate your work.
not sure if anyone has said this already but at 50:10 you got a bit muddled and to get the percent extra damage you would need to do:
(2369-2118)/2369 then multiply by 100. which is 10.59%
Thanks again for your work man
hope this helps
late to the game. but i have better understanding after the vid! I like how you explain everything.
Looks like the Obliterate mod was renamed to "Shatter Them All"
TYVM just what I needed. Used this for my doombringer and managed to double my dps.
hell yeah dude! love hearing that.
Awesome Vid! Really appreciate the work.
What is the final DPS after all the stacks? Including when hitting weak spot
Appreciated your math! Created an Excel spreadsheet that calculates everything automatically by following your math! 🙏
Nice! I just started to do the same haha
any chance for sharing? was thinking of doing the same
Wow nice! Gj
I didn't test all the gear sets, but imo best option is baret, x4 lone wolf, and x 1 Bastille. Can put on gas tight if you have the starchrom
This vid is very very helpful and informative. Btw you're using 4 pc Lone wolf, Beret and Bastille?
Love the video. So do you not recommend the substats from like Primes like shrapnel crit, shrapnel damage etc. thanks man
That was on my to do list, but if it is shrap crit it should be in the same damage pool as normal crit.
Baret, x1 Bastille, and x4 Lone wolf is great.
@@MoreMyelinGames Thank you!
really helpful breaking all the numbers down, makes it so much easier to understand tf it all means, thank you
Best guide i have seen you should be commended
@@MoreMyelinGames Alright then will do that, thank you!
Thank you very much for the video!
extremely useful for a new player on how to understand what to stack and how stacking and dmg works in this game!
really helpful even if not doing a shrapnel build!
@MoreMyelinGame
Q: *What Armor Pieces should I use with the BIS build you showcased to us?*
Beside Beret, do i go full lone wolf, bastille or?
yo thanks! Baret, x4 lonewolf and x1 bastille is great.
Right right, that is a better way to say it
glad im stmbled on this vids,,yes its takes a lot of time,,but the knowledge man,,cheers to you for testing it, bfore i was using bulls eye every time , but now i kinda tired for aim for the head always,, but i still considering using renegade for shrapnel,,isnt it works? like 3 piece renegade and 2 piece lonewolf?
Hello from France :-) Thank you so much for this video. What type of calibration du you suggest ?
Another gun that might make a rise in the void servers for pve is the jaws with the addition of resonance more testing needed
i dunno if u mention that or not.
Yeah ya true true.
I came for a game video…I’m here now with a backpack, three ring binder, corrective glasses, a calculator, three pencils and a sack lunch. Math class is in session!!!
ahahahah
The Obliterate mod is now called Shatter Them All. Was trying to find Obliterate this S2 and couldn't find it 😅They changed the name
Question. Did you ever try/figure out what "Attack +XX%" does? Which the Bingo has ,for example? "After killing an enemy with a weakspot hit, Attack +15% for 20s"
is this a simple Damage buff and is multiplicately applied like Weapon DMG and Enemy DMG? Or does it work differently?
It would be a great DMG boost to kill adds with the Bingo and then moving back to the Socr if it's an actualy 15% overall DMG boost.
yep! Dont know if you have seen my more recent videos, but Attack stat directly buffs your actual DMG stat in your stat page. Similar to using better bullets. One of the best stats in the game, as it is often a true percentage increase. So it is multiplicatively with everything (except elemental/status stuff which doesnt use DMG in calculation).
Masterpiece🎉
Great video!! Can you do one for power surge please.
thanks for the suggestion. I am looking at new builds now. i think my new server will be fast gunner, but I am pretty keen for power surge as well.
Also, when you tested targeted strike, did you mark the enemy?
@@MoreMyelinGames What if you dont bother marking the target? LEA last boss for example... does explosive shrapnel win out?
