A question. The furnace is a large cylindrical vessel. Solids are dropped in the top (ore, limestone, coke.) Is there a solid column of solid material sitting on top of the molten liquid on the bottom slowly melting or does it melt as it drops and quickly form slag and hot metal iron?
I've about a dozen videos and this is the best explanation on the inner workings of a blast furnace. How are the levels of the slag and molten iron determined? How often are both tapped? I expect that furnace dimensions dictate amount of materials charged into the furnace so I am also asking how normal production raw materials input and the iron and slag outputs are calculated for a given furnace size and the tapping schedule.
