Thanks for the tips Claudia! I definitely cut back my peonies, and clean up my roses, also anything that looks scraggly.. Solomon’s seal, hosta, but I do leave the columbine foliage, it’s looking pretty prime right now. I’ve been outside all day today, love it! ☀️ We’re having 70+ degrees for a 3 day stretch - yeah! My garden was more of a cottage style garden but I fell in love with evergreens (thanks lol) and so I’m potting and planting new shrubs and trees and rearranging.. I’m excited that the weather is cooperating. I’ll throw a few bulbs here and there as well. Spring is my favorite with all the surprises, new growth, and GREEN 💚 favorite color! 🌱
Aww I love this Denise. I always love hearing your feedback and also learning more about you and everyone else and how are you guys garden. I love that you have some nice weather headed your way, I’m craving warmer temps, or at least less rain. 😭
A clean slate,I feed the birds all year,if they have the good insects, they can house bad . My brain doesn’t comprehend a brown looking plant as winter interest ,I will never understand that .. But that’s just me ,not saying it’s right,I have been gardening over 40;years,and it has worked well for me . Happy Fall from the South 🍁🍂
Wasn’t that so beautiful! There have been so many been beautiful rainbows lately, I love it so much. Also same same! I’m trying to get the garden tidy up so I can begin the big dahlia dig. 😍
Hi Claudia ! I've started cutting back peonies because the foliage was "sick". i try to leave foliage during winter for wildlife. Even if there are not seeds, lots of insects benefit of having plants to hide in/stay safe during winter. But I've done lots of plant shuffle and digging the minipond's hole and I still have to dig a few holes for bare root roses and stuff. I try to do the big part while I'm still unemployed/have time.
Also, I'm trying the fall dividing this year in the hope of getting some headstart on them. I still need to divide the scabiosa 😅and many other stuff to do !
Aww I love all of this. It’s nice to find ways to keep us busy in times of transition, I totally get that. It sounds like you’re doing a lot of planting and restructuring right now, I’m super excited to when you guys share what you’re up to in your gardens. 🤩 Do you grow a lot of peonies?
There are pros and cons about fall clean up. 🎃🍁💚🙃 we have thousands of lady bugs that overwinter in the dead foliage of my plants. Also because I live in zone 6a the dead foliage adds some winter protection to some of my more tender perennials. I guess it’s all about where you live and what you’re willing to look at through the winter months. I like it especially when we get a lot of snow because that covers most of the dead and ugly foliage. 🤗🎃🍁💚🙃
Wow really!??? That is so exciting! We hardly have lady bugs in our garden, but gosh when I see them I get so excited. 😆 And you’re right, I think depending on your zone with also determine when is the best time for clean up. 🥰💗
thanks for sharing! i do some cleaning in fall and then some in the spring just depends on how i'm feeling. i have ra and i struggle some when it gets cooler. that dahlia is beautiful. could you give me the name of it. and the rainbow how beautiful. love it!!! hope that you have a great day!!!
Aww thanks, and that totally makes sense. It’s all about finding a good balance and what works best for you. The dahlia in the video is called Ivanetti. 🥰💗
Absolutely, so I mentioned below but it was pumpkin pie, double scoop watermelon, and green twister. Here is the link to the video I planted them all: ruclips.net/video/nqrojpV5KsA/видео.htmlsi=AX4XRsYLk57gQCon

🌈 I like to cut back most things in the early spring!
I will say the other perk of that is I always feel more energized in Spring. I think most are tired of winter and are eager to get out. 😆

That’s exciting! I think I may leave out my Scabiosa I grew from seed and see how they do over winter. 🥶
Hi! I usually do some cut backs but not all. Basically as you described. Some stuff is better left standing.
I love that- it’s so nice to break it up and have some things left back to look at. 🥰
