- All I want is a bowl of New England clam chowder but it's not possible so I go on the hunt for crabs to make CRAB chowder.

Great video Will! Love that you made your own broth. I figured the crab went to crap. I make my broth out of lobster bodies or muscles, PEI or N.S. It freezes great. Personally, I never use anything but skim or low fat milk as I want to taste the seafood, not cream. I make it in a different order but yours looked delicious. I’m willing to bet there was a huge crab flavour even without the crab meat & that’s all because of the time you spent making the broth.
Thanks for sharing!!!
Ok first off, thank you. Thank you for always leaving thoughtful comments. You’re here for the right reasons and I appreciate that. Now let’s get into it… mussel broth?!!! Genius. Never thought of that and it would be so obviously delicious. Second you’re right… heavy cream (while good and filling) was like a sledgehammer. A lighter cream would have let the delicate crab flavor shine. If you go back a bit to a cod chowder I make… it’s the right ratio. This was good, not refined not great but good. It was like campbells soup. So while being nostalgic and scratched an itch, it wasn’t perfect
@@CookingWithClams don’t ever think I’m criticizing. Please, I love seafood and you have brought so much to my repertoire. Don’t ever stop being you. I’m me and it’s part of growing up in PEI, but mostly, of my preferences. I have watched your channel become my #1 for options to add to that.
If you ever come to PEI or N.S. ,please let me know.
@@PSSKDerby criticism is good! I always appreciate your comments, and they are always well thought out
you have a voice that lour's you in.. not a pun...keep it it brotha! food always looks SPOT ON!!! 100%
Wow thank you
May have to try it. That was a baby brittle starfish on that one crab.
Someone else said skeleton shrimp and another said a worm
😎✌️👍
Will, take it from someone who has worn waders for 53 years. I would highly recommend that you not put any items in the inside pouches of waders that you not only want to keep dry but to keep period. When you bend over, things will fall out either into the bottom of the wader or into the water. Additionally if you wear waders enough, you will eventually go for a swim. At some point you will either step into a hole or stumble & fall. Waders not only keep water out, they will quickly fill up & keep water in when you end up in the drink. I eventually wised up & started using walking sticks especially in thick mud, uneven ground & rocks. I’ve hunted waterfowl for over 50 years all across North Central, & South America & I normally go for a stumble & swim at least twice per year. What’s worse it is normally on the most brutally cold, nastiest days of the season. Hypothermia is a real b!tch especially when you lose your car keys. Love your videos!
This is excellent advice! And I will take it.
You can’t eat Clam Chowder!
It would be “Clam-ibalism”
That joke never gets old!
If that’s like an embolism… I’m having a clambolism
@@CookingWithClams cannibalism- clamibalism.
I’m from LI, south shore, that is not clam chowder! Where’s all the crab or clams!? That’s potato chowder, should’ve added leeks maybe and that’d be better….
Ok
Looks amazing Will, never thought it would be possible with Spider crabs.
I would have rather had green crabs
I know you’re chef quality trained, but bro…get some blue crabs (you know what I talking about). Life is too short to eat suboptimal crab meat.
Hey if they were around… I would have happily got them
I am slightly allergic to clams/mussels but I can eat everything else (i can eat 1 or 2, but I'll be itchy). I've yet to try NE clam chowder for this reason, but i see no point in not adding crawfish or blue crab to it! I always make etouffee from scratch but I may need to try this recipe this weekend. 30lbs of live crawfish from Louisiana to my front door in SoCal - can't beat it, and I need to find other ways to use it!
Crawfish chowder would be amazing!
As always, nice video. I enjoy your content. I didn’t notice if you had a wading belt on with the waders. It’s a very key piece of safety equipment and pretty cheap. Worth looking into if you don’t have one.
I did! It comes with one built in
“Look at this thing! Look at this. Stranger things. Craziest thing I’ve ever seen. Look at this”
We can’t see it.
Skeleton shrimp.
As much as I loved this video and how delicious it looked at the end, it’s not a true New England chowdah for one reasons and one reason only; Long Island is still not truly part of New England. It seems like more of a wannabe Rhode Island to me (or maybe Rhode Island is a wannabe Long Island, I wouldn’t know).
You’re correct. Wanna know why? Cause the Dutch settled New York and deemed it new Amsterdam. Fun fact.
Another great video , 24K an rising
Grinding away! Slowly
That was a skeleton shrimp they are harmless even though they look pretty wicked
Thank you! Never seen one. Super interesting
@@CookingWithClams no problem they typically hang out in the sea grasses I find them more commonly in the winter months but I believe they are present year round
great vids ...
Thank you
Feelin’ decadent
Haha as I eat the trash of the sea
At least your adventures in the dreariness paid off. The chowder looks awesome!
Thank you Brad!
Probably sac religious but I would have been tempted to add some artificial Krab to the chowder.
You know…. That would have been amazing
Me: getting ready at the 24 min mark to slay you for forgetting to show picking the crab
You: mic drop at 25 minutes calling out the keyboard warriors for said slays.
Me: glad I waited til end of video to comment.😂
And sorry for even thinking you blew it and didn’t consider that content.
Hahaha I knew it was coming from the bisque episode!
You’re not in New England….. I can go to my waters edge and wave to you from my New England coast but you are not in New England. . Ha
Nooooooo no old bay!!!! Its missing some lump crab meat😅.
Old bay on everything!
It sure was , you’re not wrong
Sorry Will I would not it that crab chowder you left the dead man I the crabs and I saw a lot of muddy water come out of the crabs plus I don't like clam chowder either but that crab chowder looks to dirty for me to eat good luck to you if I don't see you next Wednesday I know why😮
Aloha Gary. You should really have your mom proof read these before you post. Might help with your credibility.
Believe it or not it was t muddy water but the crabs innards. The stick was dark in color but incredibly light
Fozzie bear, a clam and a crab walk into a bar. Keep cooking the best chowder. Wakka Wakka!
Between you, Dibs, Deermeat and Bluegabe I never get tired of the content and cant get enough. To piggyback on one of your comments, you dont ever talk too much. Its nice to get the views, thoughts, and randomness of someone who isnt a "pro" and just knows everything...its more relatable. Sad about the crab meat losing its flavor and appeal, but it looked hella good dude. My first thought was to throw some crab from the store in, like some of the pulled meat from publix. But with that homemade stock and chowder, you cant go wrong anyways!
Appreciate it!! Thank you
Good one Will! I’m disappointed I can’t complain about the lack of crab meat because you already alluded to it 😅👍🏼
Hahaha do it anyway
Another great episode, both entertaining and educational! I appreciate you Will 🦀
Thank you Lou! Sometimes I wonder if I talk too much
@@CookingWithClams
Never!
Love that chowda! My brother and I were just observing the loons and cormorants snacking on green crabs. They are really lethargic right now and would be perfect to fry up if you could get a few peelers. You really should try my canned sardine hack for bait later on when the water warms up a bit.
I will! As long as I don’t eat them first
Man I thought your cutting board was covered with something… jokes on me!!
???
Me and a bunch of my friends went to that pier on Presidents’ Day and we caught a bunch of baby rock crabs, few spiders and a bunch of greens, try near the end of the pier, green crabs and rock crabs like to stay deeper when the water is still cold and I know that pier is extremely deep
Yeah! I didn’t have enough line or weight. The current was RIPPING. Let’s fish together!
Wow…what an adventurer.
Thanks! The Keys are warming up! Dive trip for me coming up in KL. Woot woot!
Heck yeah!!
Hey man looks delicious. And thanks for the recipe ideas.
Thank you for watching!
Looks so yummy 😋. When's lunch, I'm coming. All I have to do is get across the sound!!!!
I’ll just come that way, better fishing
My Lord Man, that looks terrific.
Stay dry
Micky C
Thank you Micky !!
Dude nice socks where can I get some
Company is called huf
Looks sooo good ! I love New England clam chowder and the crab twist sounds good. I would be tempted to make a seafood version. Crab and fish together in the stock. Maybe heads and racks with crab for stock and then grill or blacken the fillets. Flake the blackened/grilled fish into the chowder as you server it so it keeps its chew. Just an idea riffing off of that chowder.
I did a cod one on the channel and it was divine
Geat rainy adventure. That crab chowder looks delicious!!
It was, but I’m gonna make it again with green crab
@@CookingWithClams I can't wait!
YES!! It was delicious!
I thought so too!
Hey!! Will I hope all is well I love this video because that chowder looks delicious good job❤😊
Thank you Nadine!
“I only need one bowl of chowder to satisfy this hunger” Awesome quote
Haha one is never enough
I’m going to warm up, finish this rich chowder on this dreary day......and take a nap!
Haha zzzzzzz
Deve ter ficado muito bom, estava precisando de ideias para cozinhar caranguejo! Essa é uma boa receita. Só irei acrescentar camarões rsrs 🇧🇷🤙
Shrimp would have been great in there
The worm looks like a spaghetti worm.
I think you’re right
That is an Awesome looking Chowder my Man!
It was tasty but needed MORE CRAB!
Solid ingenuity with what you were given! Looks good
I appreciate you recognizing the lemonade outta lemons
Nice waders. I prefer those to the neoprene ones. Thanks for the video. That fog looks awesome.
Those waders are actually awesome. Even though it was cold and rainy it was still a pretty nice day
Clams you da mannnnnn
Haha thank you!
That looks amazing 🍽️
Thank you Jen! If it was blue crab or Florida spider crab….. holy moly
LOL VID 4 TNX
Thanks for always watching
Looks so good!
Thank you John
No way, brother, that is not good no matter how much you try to convince us! I've been with you until now!
I won’t try to convince you but I did feed it to a few people that really liked it. Was it super crabby, no. It was almost like a veg stock with hints of crab.
No. I admire your effort, but I’m out.
No. You can’t leave. You must stay and eat spider crabs. Sorry
Stop by and we’ll catch something ✌️🍻
Sooo what was the big negative in the video lol?
