- The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed early Tuesday after a support column was hit by a large container ship that had lost power, sending vehicles and people into the Patapsco River, authorities said.

I think the captain is not American as it's been reported the ship's crew is all Indian I believe. There would have been a local harbor pilot on board for navigation as is required.

So I'm the only one asking why the emergency anchors was not deployed from the boat because you don't need power to use those. That boat turned perfectly to hit the bridge on the perfect spot that don't look like and accident out of all the places it could have hit perfectly in the middle support column yea right

There was a fire on the boat also, so the power went out, yet all my prayers sent to these families that got effected, and to the one person (how many Ik rn) who survived, also the boat deserved better, this was a traumatic event yet very tragic too, this happened when I was at my step dads house and it got me wondering after he said he was up at 1AM so, I got my answers and I was shocked, what’s bad about this for me is I have a fear/phobia of bridges and this gets me scared, so if you were here thank you for reading.

I worked on tugs diesels engines as a 17 year old kid needed my mom to sign working papers.
Ship & barges way smaller were always escorted by a tug in close proximity to a busy water way
So scary i was waiting a show and thus came on
Finally able to see this and I’m saddened about the Men that lost their lives. Condolences to their families. That was hard to watch😢

Seeing the Coast Guard helicopters landed on the nearby school fields and seeing the bridge from Sparrow’s Point was absolutely surreal. It felt like a scene from the Day After Tomorrow.

On March 27, mostly I hear talk about the 7 construction workers know to have been on the bridge, but little information on how many vehicles crashed into the water, trapping the drivers. Are there any families reporting someone missing who might have been driving across the bridge?
I know someone on facebook that says her friend and her kids plus her mom were on the bridge
The only vehicles that entered the water were those used by the construction workers . The bridge was closed in time to prevent others being involved.

tugboats are only for when the ship is taking off or docking, once its set sailed its alone and what happened here was mechanical failure as you can see the video the ships lights went on and off losing power to the ship and engine loses power to the steering as well in the last few moments the lights came back on and a bunch of black smoke came out the ship indicating it regained power but was too late to steer away.. also they attempted to slow the ship down by deploying the rear anchor and starting the propeller but it wasn't enough it caused the ship to turn more into the bridge actually.

Forget about the cruise lines, the freight coming into the harbor like, make a list beginning with sugar, and a zillion other things from Europe, and….automobiles from Europe that the harbor also receives.
That harbor will be blocked for a while until it’s cleared, and THAT, will definitely impact the economy in a negative way.
Having spent some time at sea myself I can say that a cargo ship, all large vessels really, have redundant systems that prevent a ship from loosing steerage control.
So, nobody should come to any conclusions until the “accident” is thoroughly investigated. Personally, I think it was a deliberate act of sabotage.

Anchors arent great brakes. They are there to retain a ships relative position. . They also cause the ship to veer when dropped in motion. So it would have been more danger with a ship that size. Could cause slide and i think thats why they turned so heavily n couldnt recorrect. But had they just stayed calm. It appears they would have just drifted through the opening
As someone who lives like 10 minutes away from the key bridge this hurts me, im 13 and ive seen that bridge all my life since my father takes me to a fishing place right by it,its call "fort armsted*" ik i spelt the second word wrong but still..They found 2 bodies Yesterday out of 8, now not to long ago they found 2 other bodies..but as long they have been in the water the rest of the 6 have passed..so like i said they found 2 more bodies..(dead bodies) this pains me so much..i might be young but its just painful...
