I use the gap filler around the shelves and frame too, to hide the dark lines, it makes it look really tidy

Yes, the gap filler was great. Only one suggestion you should put a screw at the front, but also put one in the hole near the back !

Yes, they need to be screwed together. I think I screwed at top, middle and bottom, front and back. It was a while ago so I can't remember.
