- Dinah Washington singing here with the Louis Jordan Band. This is the complete TV Show segment with Dinah singing 'What A Difference A Day Made' and 'Making Whopee'. Louis and Ronald Reagan make the announcements and I love the way Louis calls him 'Ronnie'! The show was dated March 8th 1960.
"Excuse me, Ronnie" lol! The record is in C, here she's in A, and swinging harder than ever. This proves she was the Queen!
This footage is invaluable to those that know and love Miss D: from a musical perspective, notice how she was able to glide from her newfound pop success with her big hit record, What a Diff'rence a Day Makes" to her more comfortable jazz roots with "Makin' Whoopee!" And to have her Mercury Records labelmate, the great Louis Jordan doing romantic horn obligatos behind Dinah while leadint a swinging band. How cool is that?
i realize I am kinda off topic but do anybody know of a good place to stream newly released movies online?
@Maximilian Gage i dunno I use flixportal. Just search on google after it :P -russell
@Russell Martin thank you, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :) I appreciate it!
@Maximilian Gage no problem :D
I've never seen this entire clip. I cannot thank you enough for sharing it. A president introduces the queen, whose bandleader is also a legend!
Ronald Reagan was the TV MC.
Live From the Apollo should have lasted forever.
She was my mother's favorite singer. What a natural beautiful voice she had! No effort just her natural voice God given. I just love it. RIP Dinah you will never be replaced!
She was my girlfriend too. I still love her and listen to all her songs. I have been a fan for over fifty years. She was one of kind. A treasure for everyone to enjoy.

Brilliant. Such a unique voice & delivery! I love her. Imagine seeing her live!
One of the most important figures in R and B is the band leader, Louis Jordan he was the first R and B star. he was the one Ronnie was speaking to at the beginning of the segment. You can check him out on RUclips
thank you so much for this upload. Absolutely stellar
...wish I was born in her era.. she went out like a rock star, O.D.ed at the height of her popularity. found some of her records at the thrift store and this song is on it. I love her voice so much, I play my 4 D.W. records over and over.. cant get enough!

@@dinahwashington8113 maybe you should tell the people she didnt "OD""....making them think she was a drug addict......she died from a combination of prescribed medications.......a diet drug and a sleep aid...........
This is just wonderful, because of Louis and Dinah and interesting, because of Ronald Reagan's hosting the scene at, of all places, the Apollo Theater in Harlem. It feels kind of "so far, yet so near." And Dinah Washington with the Louis Jordan Orchestra was just sublime! Thank you for this rare performance!
Dwayne, listen to it one mo'gain its worth it. we need to get back to the roots tbh. people don't play instruments anymore . its a shame because the elders would train for years and years until they mastered those
I mean just listen to her voice! How could anybody's voice sound so amazing. It's a wonder how God can create such a voice.
What could be finer than my dinah
Reborn Dinah as Angelina Jordan :)

Wonderful Grandma Dinah. I haven't this version of her singing this song. Glad it was posted.
I never get tired of this. I love it.
What a talent! I love this woman!
I've seen it ALL now. Ronald Reagan at the Apollo!--and with Dinah Washington and
Louis Jordan! what a country! but seriously, Dinah doing novelty songs like Whoopie
and Electric Chair shows how difficult her career path was. but she could sing anything.
Oh this is a treasure. I would live to have been there I'm person. 💜💜💜
Dinah Washington. Louis Jordan. Apollo Theater. 'Nuff said. NGO...Never Gets Old. Thank you for the upload. Blessings
Ahhh...her expression at 2:11 into 2:12. So lovely...I love you to pieces DInah.

Classic jazz! Beautiful.
I've come back to this several times. Thank you so much for sharing it.
Louie and Ronny are done before the end of 'I Could be Wrong." The stage manager cues Louie at the last 8 of the tune and Louie's off to the races. He was a real pro. And he grabs Dinah's hand as she get's to center stage. They had class back then.
Look at her beautiful expressive eyes!
I love this woman!
Love
Wow, she was IT!
beautiful
Wonderful video..thanks for posting!

Without a doubt, Ronald Reagan was a very talented individual. This introduction of Dinah Washington is a prime example of his talents as well as the wonderful singing talents of Dinah Washington.

"What could be finer than my Dinah?"...I'm still wondering.
