  • The Nürburgring Nordschleife is the longest permanent racetrack in the world: 21km of unforgiving blind corners and hills, nicknamed "the Green Hell". Oh, and some days, it's also just a public toll road with no speed limit.

      A good thing if you ever try it for real. Nurburgring must be quite challenging to learn (too big, too many turns to memorize). When I raced in karts and I was going to a new track I used a little old game which had a track designer (Revolt) to draw a crude resemblance of the track and, believe me, even being a crude resemblance, when I get there I could be fast from lap 1, only having to feel the grip and make a minor correction or two, but the circuit was already "imprinted" on my brain. @@MyRegardsToTheDodo at least under my local law in argentina, even if the establishment is privately owned and it's a for profit endeavour, if the public can access it then it's a public establishment. a theme park is privately owned and you have to pay a fee to access it, but it's still a public establishment because the public can access it.
      you do have a point about the public access being restricted to a few occasions, and I'm just talking out of my ass here: I'm trying to apply my understanding of my own laws to a situation where obviously other laws apply (laws which I haven't read).

    Things you might not know: Both on the Autobahn and these racing track there's a so called "Richtgeschwindigkeit" of 130km/h, a speed which you are legally allowed to pass, but you'll be (at least partly) responsible for every accident you're involved in - even if it wasn't your fault at all. Only after you exceed this limit, insurance companies can't be held responsible for damage you cause - so only then you'll get a bill for the damage you caused, which Tom mentioned. This applies for all of the Autobahn in Germany

    • @TessaAvonlea
      @TessaAvonlea 2 года назад +2

      how do they know how fast you were going? and is it the speed at the time of the crash that counts? Or does going above the speed at any point invoke that rule?

    • @IroAppe
      @IroAppe 2 года назад +7

      Accident investigators have become very good in estimating the speed based on the damage of the car, the road and things around. Especially the car. They can read it like a movie.

    • @wohlhabendermanager
      @wohlhabendermanager 2 года назад +2

      @@TessaAvonlea As IroAppe pointed out, you physics never lies. You can see the point of imapct on the road, you can see how far the debris scattered, so you can calculate how fast you where going.
      If you managed to brake before the impact and somehow slowed down to below 130km/h, there definitely will be skid marks, indicating that shortly before the accident you definitely were faster than 130km/h.
      That being said: I rarely feel the need to go faster than 130km/h on an Autobahn anyway.
