Electronic parking brake, but it can still be done without a scanner😊
100% knew that’s what she meant right away.
Never needed a scanner have done multiple mopar cars
@@lesliechung79 did it have an electric parking brake because if not then you missed the point.
The shop doesn't have the proper aftermarket scantool that can access modules. She has electronic parking brakes. You need to have the rear caliper piston retract during the brake job. As a Nissan tech I can personally say that it can be done this way. Our manufacturer equipment does this, but our aftermarket scantool that we use for other manufacturers also does this.
Am a mechanic as well, she full of shit.i even done rear electronic calipers without tool as well cause all cars with that system the scanner compatible.giving shops bad name.am a mobile mechanic by the way.
Take the cover off and turn the motor back by hand with the key on, it's usually a allen
A 9 volt battery works 100% perfectly 😂
There's 3 ways to do this one
#1 scanner
#2 manually done with vehicles on board system procedure
#3 retiring m retracting the motor with a power probe but beware not to go too far
I been a mechanic for years and I'm 29 but old school and old soul unlike all these youngsters now n days that don't want to work n learn lol
EPB electronic parking brake
I had to buy a bidirectional scan tool so I can do brake jobs on newer cars in my driveway. You need the scan tool to back out the emergency brakes in order to perform the brake job. Same if you want to perform an ABS bleeed.
My Jag has an electric parking brake, but it can be put into maintenance mode.
This girl doesn't understand the system in the first place whatever she was told she was told wrong
Good talk JT!
Some cars including I believe Volkswagen. You have to put the brakes into service mode In the rear. You can't compress the caliper piston without doing that Some scanners have that service feature in them. Where you can put the brakes into service mode, but if it's not compatible with Nissan, you might need their software.
they do not have to have proprietary software just a FCA gate way account like Autoathority
Another shop CAN do the work but do they assume the risk. If the manufacturer puts in the TSB that you NEED a software update it’s a poison pill. Who is at fault if there is a problem with the brakes that a software update might have fixed?
Isn't this the same person who purchases expensive new vehicle because she doesn't want to pay shop bills or maintain her car.
Yes, its true that the rear brakes need to be replaced around 20-k miles on 2013 and newer Nissan Pathfinders. We're on our 3rd set at 82-k miles and second set of front pads on a 2015 Pathfinder. Many people on the Pathfinder forums have the same complaint. Could it be that the proportioning valves were installed backwards?
When I was in class last semester, the instructor was talking about the brakes that prevent you from having an accident. She maybe talking about that. The calibration process of those systems.
chrysler was the last ones to have electronic parking brakes...BMW was 1st in 2002 followed by Audi/VW in 2006,Subaru and GM in 2009..Honda etc..Ford in 2015 Chrysler in 2015 with the 200 and some Jeep models in 2018...
The story always changes thru different people. The rear brakes get the parking brake applied electrically. The scanner won't retract for a rear brake job. These cars are having more features added. My snap on Zeus won't access newer Chrysler vehicles to retract rear brakes
She better find a repair shop that know"s how to work on cars instead of going to a quickie shop with out repair information
If I'm not mistaken I think she's saying that RTD means that no one can make the repair without a program that will communicate a diagnosis or successful repair without a manufacturers key code to be updated on the vehicles computer. I could be wrong but this i believe is the future of automotive repair and diagnostics. I haven't worked for a dealership for more than 15 years now but I'm still mechhanically inclined. My mechanic ability is cancelled out when the mechanic can not update a module in the vehicles computer. This is the direction of the the future of automotive repair. Blame the manufacturers. Just saying
When I back out of the shop, some vehicles will hit the brakes on me when I get ready to go out the door crazy bro first time I happened I was like what the heck is going on😂
She needs to go to a technician they don't know what their talking about you can retract the electric parking brake manually as far as anticolision is in the car systems She really needs to read her owner manual on how operating her automobile this is a perfect example of our education system if u can read u can do it most of the cars u can retract the parking brakes through the car
The shop she went to is trash!
Right to Repair Issues. As a Mechanic I've always had to buy the Tools to get the Job done. Some of them are expensive. The Subscription fees to make features work and Fee's to access computer Reprograming and Resets to Systems is pushing the Right to Repair Movement. John Deer and maybe a lot of other Manufacturers want the Service Work back at the Dealerships. The reset the caliper feature is using a Sensor. You should be able to reset it yourself through the in-Car Computer Access. Like resetting Your oil Life and changing Your Security Settings Ect. If TMPS is on the Dash. Your Brake Wear Indicator is on the Dash. You should be able to Air up Your Tires and Replace the Brake Components through the Onboard Compter System. Nissan is trying to get in Bed with John Deer. LOL.
Think she needs a brake job as she is definitely broken
She's clearly talking about rear brakes and the fact that you need a computer to squeeze them in to maintenance mode. I mean Chrysler has it too I don't know why you can't think of why that's not happening
On my Chrysler 200 you can put the brakes into service mode from the infotainment center.
That why i will continue to drive my 1930 model A.
They have to pay for some programming or flashing. Those manufacturers have something that out of date scanners don't have. I just have the motor running and my Launch v431 works. Almost all the new bidirectional scanners have the ability to access those can networks.
Many vehicles have electronic parking brakes and may need software to put them in service mode. It's also possible that there was an issue with the electronic parking brake to begin with potentially causing a light drag on the rear brakes.
The only things electric I know of on the brakes are the abs system, electronic parking brake, and brake light system.
Some vehicles that have the auto shut off at stop lights may also apply the brakes for you so you don't have to hold your foot on the pedal. There may be electronics involved with that as well.
In her case I would bet money they are referring to not being able to put the parking brake into service mode to reset the caliper pistons
Since when did brake pads and shoes have anything to do with needing a scantool. Rear brakes new with a 20,000 plus mile car going bad is unherd of unless there's some type of issues on a newer car. Front brakes always go out on low miles cars first. Someone or something is not right. Hmm a scan tool for what ,does her brake sensor keep going off or something, wouldn't she complain her car does not want to move,? Whats up?
You need a scan tool to shift the piston on electric handbrakes
@defafa9249 hmm thanks makes since if needed , ok pushing does not work anymore?
As tech I think is bullshit how these manufacturers getting a way with this ford Nissan Chrysler Subaru and I bet Chevy following right behind to charge the little guys for software to fully diagnose or do any testing with out paying. Monthly subscription
Done said service in some shops being refused for one reason or another from LH body style on up
That sound like break by wire
There are very few brake by wire cars. Mercedes had the SBC system and no one knew how to work on it. You had to disable the system to do brakes otherwise it could crush your hand while working on the brakes.
Later on mechanic scan tools got the functionality with a free upgrade. Otherwise everyone was freaking out about having to use Benz Star software
@@brarautorepairs All of that should be in service information, am I correct?
When I was in class, my instructor was showing us a video about a new Cadillac that was coming out with those same features!
He even told us that this will be the future, and we need to be working on our diagnosing techniques!
The reason I got my 23 Subaru WRX and 21 VW GTI, MANUAL parking brakes! A thing of beauty, IMHO. They are almost gone now, why replace with something that causes problems? $$$$
My 2015 Chrysler 200 let's you put the rear brakes into service mode directly from the infotainment system. For other software needs, I bought a Vgate OBD cable for $34.99 and purchased AppcarDiag FCA for $29.99 and pretty much have access to everything the dealer does.🤷I did a proxi alignment the other day because I replaced my instrument cluster. If you have the will and competence, you can pretty much do any type of work yourself.
Like watching a game of telephone. I doubt that she is repeating everything the shop told her accurately to us. Every time she tells it, the story gets changed.
Every manufacturer has to give access to shops to work on their cars. She taking her car to pookie and ray ray for service. And BTW no scan tool needed to do Subaru rear brakes!! Just screw them in
I’ll never buy a new or newer car I like work on my own stuff way to much electronics no thanks 😊
What year cuz I have a 2015 Chrysler 300 cuz I change my own brakes
you have to see the issue . Dealer usually go by part changing official interval . Your car is fine but it's 10 year old . Dealer will change everything recommended in the official book if you let them . As for the ecm ? Each programming tool has their favorite . I'm sure you'll need a few programming tool to cover them all . Unless you do like pine auto . He pay monthly and this garanty him is machine should work for the zone he is at . Like dvd zoning . Oh they try to implement mine my own my precious but last time any rubbed against right to repare . They lost a lot . So that subject is close . Take me . Nissan tell me a 7317 wont screw on my engine . It's a lie . The mechanic had a bias against the plastic core . Even tho my car has no warranty . Now , nissan loose oil change from me because their mechanic refuse customer request . I feel sad for nissan . I supply the oil the filter . Only a crush washer is required . Nissan dealer loose 130$ each time because their mechanic did not like filter lenght even tho they always over fill in last 2 year .
👍
If she drives the way she emotes constantly, those brakes are toast after 28k miles! No more coffee for you! ;-)
Could be as simple as the mechanics scan tool is outdated.
2019 and up Chrysler electronic caliper's you can not retract or unlock the Parkbrake to service mode with out an FCA Autoahority Account same with Nissan Toyota Subaru and some kia Hyundai .......... every scan tool will ask for account authorization .Benz will always be free and 100% unlocked on all scantools because of Euro laws
the shop is to cheap to pay $9 per month
Cousin Pookie lol.
Yeah stealership..
nobody thinks of maintenance costs when buying a car! cars depreciate in price over the years. like a bmw, you can afford a used bmw and then something breaks and you need a part! well, the value of the car goes down, but the price of the part does not go down, so it gets expensive!
she is on the target about proprietor software ...better listen up people
🤐🤐
🔧✌️🔧
lol find a word of mouth reputable Indy mechanic I don’t advertise all word of mouth I’m booked out weeks usually
She needs to marry a good mechanic.
Its so cute watching a blonde try to talk car tech. LOL
Chrysler started it😂
This chick got some BS story from a shady shop that doesn't spend the money on dealer level scan tools.
I kind of understand why Tracy at the dealership was “rude as shit” to you! Tracy is probably very happy you went somewhere else. And maybe your brother or your cousin Pookie doesn’t want to work on your car because you are a Pain in the ___.😮
This poor girl should take some auto class's she so far in the stone age. I just bought a $400 top don from amazon that can retract the rear calipers
You actually kind of proved her point. More money and access.
Technology has gone crazy you have to have a scan tool and a lab scope, wait till she has a check engine light come on or goes for her first tune up she's going to shit.@@zoe7657
She may be cute, but she’s a few fries short of a happy meal, she don’t have all the tools in the shed, she’s a few cards shy of playin with a full deck, she’s not the sharpest knife in the drawer, she doesn’t have both oars in the water, she’s not the sharpest pencil in the box, the elevator doesn’t go to the top floor, she’s not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree, she’s a few bricks short of a full load, and the lights are on but nobody’s home, but she can get this job done at any number of shops. She should try the cell phone she’s blowin up TikTok with and call some prior to scheduling her apt.
God bless~
Life’s easier when you buy a reputable brand
Name the Brand without this modern equipment.
You can jump the e brake (see the link). Or just go to service brake mode in the radio. ruclips.net/video/IL_nn90n01g/видео.htmlsi=tNP8SP0HJ1of740C also they used some tiny rear pads. That's why they go through pads so fast. The auto hold eats up those pads is all. My wifes pacifica is perfectly fine i service her front and rear pads and rotors with no issues. You can even check service procedures in prodemand/Mitchell. Nothing fancy needed.
Electronic parking brakes need to be put in service mode then intialized so the abs module knows how much to apply the park brake when set, now to access that well...you have to unlock the gateway 🫣
Which, normally, a generic mid-grade to upscale scanner has the capability to do. And no subscription to the manufacturer is needed to put the rear brake caliper's in service mode. Love your videos. Im a subscriber and a Master Tech.
