Hey, love the tutorial - I have to do this a lot for very large buildings and I find Edge Tools 2 extension real helpful for the close edge gaps function (you can set the distance it will close, so set it below the minimum thickness of your thinnest wall for example) and it will close all the gaps for you. Then you can drape it as you have done or use S4U- Face maker extension to get all your faces. And finally, the Fredo Joint Push Pull extension will lift all your faces up together too. Cheers
Designer Hacks no worries mate. Only thing to add is that when performing these things on large files or will seem like your Sketchup has crashed but there should be a little time taken and time left and percentage guage down the bottom left so don't panic! :)
Sorry to be off topic but does someone know of a way to get back into an instagram account? I was stupid lost the account password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me.
This has been great and easy to follow but after making my cleaned up imported plans a group, I tried using the drape tool and half of my lines did not copy onto the rectangle face below. What am I doing wrong?
THIS IS GREAT! WOULD YOU BY CHANCE KNOW HOW TO CONVERT AN AUTOCAD FILE TO 3D VIDEO WALK THROUGH? LIKE IN SWEET HOME 3D AND OTHER SOFTWARE THAT USED FOR LIKE HOME 3D WALK THROUGH OF SPACE PLAN. THANK YOU TO ANYONE THAT CAN HELP.
Hi Designer Hacks. I need an advice. I am trying to recreate an old van from the 1940s. None of the vans exists today except a few pictures and drawings, but they are all photographed at an angle. Is it possible to draw the van from these photographs using AutoCAD some how and still with correct measurements. I have tried to measure the pictures and using some mathematical equations but still alot inaccuracies. Can you or somebody help… I know some measurements like distance between the axles and height… If I compare the drawings I do have with the photos, it is obvious that they are very very inaccurate and I can´t use them...
try that on a 500+ layer autocad mess with blocks, xclips, splines, curves exploded into 96 edges.. and nothing in its correct layer.... aHHHHH! . Personally,, I find it quicker on import to delete all the autocad layers, place the file in a separate tag, lock it and draw new work over the top, using the rectangle tool to ensure most walls are orthogonal..
A useful and competent explanation, so I tried it and it turned out that everything works fine. Special thanks to the author for such useful content.

When I select the grioup and try to drape it , it says "not valid selection. no face to drape..."
