To me this is the true essence of woods crafting, many people are out of touch with these skills due to how easy it is to buy gear now days and want instant gratification. Being a true woodsman is learned and earned through craftsmanship not a credit card we see all these wonderful self shot photos of bacon, blades and wood cups but not a scrap of skill was put forth to make the blade or cup themselves in most instances. Great video I would love to see more people embracing life this way.

This is what I've been preaching forever. Gear should be a reward for the accomplished woodsman "after" he's learned how to craft what he needs in the woods. This has been the precedent for woodcraft in America by the scouts and The Woodcraft Movement of the late 1800's-early 1900's. Love the video, love the concept. Thank you for posting this Sepp.

Great idea training both hands When I was little guy my dad was showing me how to do something and it he used his left hand I said I can't do that left handed he said have you ever done it before I said no he said then just do it you could surprise your self I did and I was so have been doing things that all my life and so are my boys . happy trails

The more I know I carry what is necessary. I am a 1750s Canadian Milice and 1775 Ranger reenactor in the USA. They distilled what is basic, imho. Less gear but the right gear. I liked the vid.

Moin Sepp, lange habe ich nicht mehr reingeschaut, weil die Interessen einfach in eine andere Richtung gingen, aber durch Stephans Video habe ich richtig Lust bekommen wieder etwas von dir anzuschauen. Toll zu sehen mit wie wenig du mittlerweile aus kommst.
Bei dir habe ich übrigens zum ersten Mal ein Mora in Aktion gesehen. Nach meinem ersten, gefloppten Messerkauf (rambostyle Survivalmesser mit hohlem Griff) kam so ein richtig gutes Messer, das ich heute noch besitze. Danach ein paar Videos von Stephan und der Grundstein für mein Hobby war gelegt. Ich danke dir sehr dafür, dass ich durch dich den Einstieg in etwas gefunden habe, das mir so viel positives gegeben hat und auch noch gibt.

A high quality light sleeping bag and small stainless steel pot probably weighs less than the chisel, auger, and and spoon knives

That is a great session in a beautiful location and it is very true what you said about training the left as you never know when a dominant hand or foot will be injured - it's exactly the same with karate as the left side of the body should be just as proficient as the right once you get up to the higher levels.

Back to basics. Good thing about making the things you need out of natural materials is that when they wear out, they can simply be returned to nature, either as firewood or to decompose as they normally would have done anyway. Stay safe out there. Cheers.

Seen you had 666 likes, so here's 667. I 100% agree all my bag builds are based on reusable tools unlike matches and razor blades.. followed by thermals socks and beanies, a filtration system life straw. My only comfort items are an insulated icewater jug , coffe press that doubles for cooking and a small solid dry storage box for my wallet, keyes and phone.

drilling a container is genius, I feel like a dummy for never thinking of this, If you decide that the T-auger drill is not for you I will be open for a trade, that is a great tool and very hard to find anymore.

Hey Sepp, tolles Video und ein super schöner Tag draußen !! Finde Dein Packsystem immerwieder klasse, einfach gehalten und trotzdem alles dabei :-)) Bei den beiden Moras zum aushöhlen würde mich sehr interessieren welches Dir besser liegt, ich bin immer am überlegen welches ich nehmen soll. Bei dem einschneidigen kann man wenigstens mal den Daumen zur Führung auflegen, ähnlich wie beim Messer wenn man weiter vorn greift, aber wozu die doppelte Schneide ? Hast ja was dazu gesagt, aber vieleicht haste ja noch einen Tipp :-)) Dank Dir fürs zeigen und ne gute Woche, bis denne, LG Brummer
Survivalfuchsbr Vielen Dank mein Freund, ich wollte beide Messer haben das eine für Löffel das andere für Schüsseln sozusagen. Mit dem doppelschneidigen kann man meines Erachtens von sich weg und zu sich hin schnitzen ohne umgreifen zu müssen. Lgs

Sind die Sandalen fürs Paddeln und Kanufahren geeignet? Wasser?
;) - Zu den Sandalen, grundsätzlich ja denke ich, wie lange der Kleber hält weiß ich nicht. Hier "an Land" hat es mich gestört dass die sonst komfortable Innensohle solange nass bleibt.

The more you know is great and important, but not having something in a bad situation that would make your life better without it being cumbersome to carry is stupid. Being able to make do with little of nothing is a great ability to have but is a better back up plan than plan a. I don't go in for all the gadgetry and excessiveness in the world today yet not to have something that you can carry without any problem but might save your life, come on. Wrapping your stuff in your shelter is fine but is that really some enlightened version of bushcraft when you wouldn't know the difference with a 8 ounce pack pack behind you. Either way is fine don't go all superior about it. Everything he is carrying is gear.
