Lots of good stuff here, that's making me think about our own gaming journey and what a wild year 2022 was, for both good and bad... and got me thinking about how sometimes we get overwhelmed by the voices that tell us we're not doing things right, or other people are doing things better than us, or feeling guilty over games/campaigns we've neglected, or the types of gaming we're not doing. And I personally feel that it's easy to lose sight of what really matters: having fun times with the people you love. I do appreciate though how open and honest y'all always are with your struggles, because I think we *all* have them and it's healthy to always push yourself to do and try new things. At the same time, I'm also trying in this new year to stop comparing myself to others in this wild gaming hobby and be proud of how far I've come already. Mad love
Keep you doing your thing! If it brings you joy, nothing else matters!
Great thoughts. It is easy to get caught up with what other people think is right and wrong.
I recommend Hadrian's Wall for a Solo game. I just learned and played it last weekend and really enjoyed - and plan to table it regularly.
We've played Hadrians Wall at 4p and had a great time with it! For some reason just one we've never bitten the bullet on. Thanks for the suggestion!

Discovered your channel recently after reigniting my love for board games, thank you for keeping me entertained during early mornings with my 1 year old! Just picked up Mountains from Haba recently as my fiancée and I love a hike. And the Monopoly Deal card game is extremely intense as we discovered on New Year’s Eve 😂

Cannot say enough good things about Airecon. Heading up for my fourth year in March and cannot wait. Not as big as UK Games Expo but its brilliantly run, really social and focussed on meeting people and playing games - great weekend!

I finally put my foot down and told my game group we're going to make the trek to Gencon this year. We're just in Ontario, so it should be an 8-9h road trip. We hope to see some other Canucks down there!

I LOVE the idea of creating your own con. Perhaps you should do that for 2023 - having something locally - like in Halifax (i.e. Atlanticon)!?! And invite all the locals (and anyone else who wishes to make a cross-country trip - Ottawa is just a 2 hour, direct-flight away). I also LOVE the idea of a tournament - especially if its with Vililanous or Dice Throne (since I know how to play those). You should know that I'm a former conference/event planner - so that might come in handy.
Haha not sure it’ll happen in 2023 but ya never know!

Just as an FYI - I have the worst motion sickness. Bonine or Dramamine does wonders. I love Disneyland and Six Flags and could never fully experience them without it. I highly suggest trying it if you haven't already. Just make sure to take the Non-Drowsy kind!
Also, great resolutions! I have so many outstanding kickstarters and pre-orders from 2022, I am going to try and not buy anything else this year until I get what I already have played. We also have so many campaign games started and not finished, I would really like to finish at least a couple before my ISS Vanguard copy comes in. Super excited to dive into that!

Great video. My resolution shall be to my game Loading Ships finihed and ready to play with rules and printed cards and playing boad.
Random: I’m sure you’ve heard of Dramamine, but Bonine works just as well and doesn’t make you drowsy. You can take it before a day at the parks! And if you go on a cruise it works or you can get a subscription for ear patches from your doctor before you leave. They work super well. I promise! I get super car sick on the shortest trips and it works for me
She uses a bracelet that seems to work very well!
This is the first year that I'm making board game resolutions, and for me it's mostly to buy less/ play more, and finally start painting minis. I'm looking forward to seeing Jamie's resolution for more creative videos like the Final Girl video; that one was amazing!
Painting minis... prediction 2024 and 2025, will be catch up on your painting back log.

Definitely has to be about playing the shelves this year. Like you we often only play games one or two times. Definitely thinking about a 10x10. 😊

Regarding the campaign game resolution: My City is a great campaign game that is easy to finish and Hadrian’s Wall has a great solo campaign on BGG.
I’d LOVE to. But I don’t think we’d have time to plan / save for this year unfortunately! But one year we will get there
I support Jeff's new identity as a fisherman and highly recommend he check out Button Shy's newest solo release, Fishing Lessons: a Scott Almes game about family, fun... and fish.

Getting better at teaching is really an art in itself. Normally, I try to play the game on my own before introducing it to others. This way, I'd ant question comes up, I can take the time to look it up and be more prepared when the time confers to play with my group.
As for playing more solo, especially Mage Knight, just go for it. It's such an amazing game and the AI dummy player is so easy to handle. The AI literally takes 5 seconds to run and it's already back to you. And don't worry about getting things wrong or learning parts of the game as you encounter them. It's easy easier to process all of the rules this way. I highly recommend that you play the First Renaissance scenario a couple of times until you feel more comfortable with the game.

Currently playing through LOTR Journeys, so good with the app. So much fun. You guys will love that. It also plays incredibly well as a solo game. Just close the app when you need a break and go back to it when you're ready.

I can’t remember which video you mentioned tourneys in but I think a root tourney would be awesome. I know it would probably be challenging to set up but still cool.
That would be a challenge but will see what we can do!
The only resolution I have is to play more boardgames. My "journey" has started in 2021, I bought some (was very specific and analyzed a lot before buying) in 2022, in 2023, I need to experience and create moments to enjoy them. I am converting my husband little by little. :)

The Mind was one we sold.
We actually recently bought "The Game" (terrible name) but we had a lot more fun playing that than the Mind. It's similar but different. Worth a play if you ever see it.

I have "The Mind"...but haven't played as of yet. So is it one NOT to keep....OR...is it fun, but replayability is not there?

I have the same problem as Jeff regarding solo games. So much easier just to play a video game. Have a hard time getting into solo games. Maybe I just haven't found the right game

Learned and played Star Wars Rebellion last night, great game 8.5 out of 10
It took us 4hrs, lots of funny moments and teasing / joking interactions, plans frustratingly didn’t come to fruition and unexpected boons occurred making the political tug-of-war very thematic.
We really just need to suck it up and play it at this point

I'm going to try to get all my games under 5euro per play. So a game that cost me 40euro, I'll try to play at least 8 times.
Also, I'm going to take a good hard look at my collection and cull some games. I love playing games but lately the shelves are overflowing and the messiness is really starting to bug me: not good!

2022... Decided to get less KickStarters. Which we did, by 50%...
Yet due to Liz Truss, shipping increases, vat etc... and Lizs murder spree of the sterling, the 50% less games we bought ended up costing us 130% more then the previous year.
So this year No KS is our challenge for 2023.
Will, be first time in 12+ years not ordered KS so will be interesting in seeing if FOMO or regret pops up.
We are with you there. For sure backing less moving forward. Or at least attempting to!

Btw, I don't get how you can learn so many games. Many great games are pretty intricate and if you ignore those details the game can fall on it's face lol
It’s not easy that’s for sure, and we definitely do miss stuff. But you just keep on keeping on
LotR JiME is easy to complete for a campaign game. Each campaign is just 13-14 games. I played core and the two box campaigns once and feel no need to ever play it again so I sold it.

She is a tackle in the games She likes. I like on the euro side like endless winter,Paladin's like are top games. I look for more ore ways to win is what I look for in games. Sometimes games get one path to end game

Five tribes, Barrin park is one of our favorites we played. A friend's Ark nova I like it but tight on the card play at first. I like it when you get that engine going so cool and I think you are right about the player count it would make it faster and fewer changes to the board state thank you for your help I will check out the other titles

@@FostertheMeeple I think that's how it's designed to be played so even though there's player elimination, the 1st player out makes winning for everyone else much much more difficult by making conscious decisions that hinder everyone elses progress. This expedites the end of the game so no one is stuck sitting out for too long after 1 person has died.

@@FostertheMeeple So does the 1st person usually just sit out? There's a green intruder deck reserved for the first player to die. This deck is drawn from by that player and replaces the AI random decision making so the intruders begin moving towards players more deliberately than possible via random card draws.

2022 board game resolutions were only 2: Become a better teacher, which I think I did, taught some heavier games I’m proud of, and attend a convention which I did with Pax, and bonus, met you two! 2023 is all about play the shelves….it has to be…😬
