2:10-2:24 - about accents - this is equally true, perhaps even more significant in the United Kingdom about the perceived intelligence of a person depending on his or her regional accent.
This varies a lot with each individual. Some people lose their accents, other don't.

The trouble with having a South African accent AND surname, means that every conversation starts with "Who do you support in the rugby?" What I want to reply is "I'm Australian mate, and live in Victoria, and I don't watch rugby!" But I just say "Australia, of course!".

But then again, that film was directed by South African Neill Blomkamp, playing around with various tropes and ideas of the genre.
