The trouble with having a South African accent AND surname, means that every conversation starts with "Who do you support in the rugby?" What I want to reply is "I'm Australian mate, and live in Victoria, and I don't watch rugby!" But I just say "Australia, of course!".

I agree, it is delicious. My ancestors left the their homes in search of those spices, and with good reason. Although a tasty and a positive experience, it rarely climbs into the issues that immigrants face nor the issues of fundamentally opposing discourse. But I could see a good meal being the start of a more informed conversation.

Please don't come to Canada. I am a Canadian citizen. Born here, but I lived most of my life in the United States and Europe. I returned to Canada a few years ago and I have experienced something very similar to immigration to Canada. Keep in mind that I speak English and French and my ethnicity is Caucasian. Still my experience has been very difficult and I am deeply disappointed. Many other nations are better choices. The USA 🇺🇸 primarily comes to mind. I lived in the US for most of my life. I truly believe that immigrating to the US would be a better choice. Many European nations would also be better. The one main idea I want to convey to anyone considering immigrating to Canada is that you are needed, but not necessarily wanted here. I work two jobs, and stay out of trouble. I speak the language and I walk the walk. Working very hard and getting nowhere. I do not feel welcome here. I feel like I am being exploited. How will you feel?

@@ChristiInCanada Thank you and I am referring to consensual spankings between individuals who are of adult age ? I've personally been in quite a number of these activities and with common sense and a mutual respect of both parties involved , there were no complaints as well we were very pleased with the outcome overall .Is there such a law prohibiting for instance one adult administering several "swats" with a wooden paddle while inside a private residence or out in a public area ,like a mall or city sidewalk ? As a child and all the way up to age 16 I'd experienced a paddling both inside an office with closed door as well and usually while in public within view of others . As a minor it's perfectly legal yet as adults it's against the law?

Tip for any immigrant is don’t listen to the government propaganda. The best thing you can do is come here get your free education or education upgrade, get your passport and move to the UK or something. Is the government right now is bringing in as many immigrants as possible Preferably medical professionals, we’re accepting basically medical professionals from the entire world, updating their education for free most of them end up working in America cause they pay better

Canadian here, born here. Everything is shit. Healthcare has never really been good. Governments spend more on advertising how good it is than actually trying to fix it. Ironically, Americans spend less per capita for their medical than we do. It's never been cheap here. You can get cheap food in the summer in places like Ontario as there are farms everywhere, but other than that, you're going to blow your wad on the basics of living--just the way the socialists set it up. Multiculturalism is a ridiculous pipe dream. Diversity is not our strength. Canada was 94% white and British, except for Quebec, in 1981. We were doing better then. The 'keep your culture and MAYBE adopt Canadian values' idea is a laughable failure, one pushed by PET in the 1970's and accelerated to today. Immigrants are not to blame. But immigration policies drive a lot of the stresses today, especially on healthcare and housing. So, leave. Or stay. Whatever. Canada is not a place to settle down and flourish, for anyone, except the ultra rich.

Another way, ride the GO Train system (in the GTA) in flip flops while wearing a winter coat in middle of February. 90% of women do that. I am 69 years old. I am poor. I am ok but I live on very little. I screwed up in life. I am divorced 3X. Basically that wiped me out each time. Should have never married. Should have never had kids. They wiped me out a few times. I am from Canada. It is coming up on 19 years since my son passed away from Cancer. Cancer treatment costs lots of money outside of our socialized medicine program. It wiped me out. I should have declared bankruptcy at that time. It would not have helped his treatment but maybe would have decreased my financial turmoil. So I was wiped out 3X by marriage and 3X by children and 3X by crime. Canada Healthcare is a mess. I enjoy what I have left due to a private paid operation I had about a year ago. Healthcare wouldn’t fund it. They were happy with me in pain and in a wheelchair. I thank the private doctor who took me for $5000 and operated and gave me back some life. I see this article and today some relatives sent me a picture of my dead son. I would prefer he was well and alive and I was dead but don’t usually get what you wish. I don’t really regret things but just note the effects. It is very true that marriage and kids has more than a 50% chance of financial ruin. Now most countries are an economic disaster on top of that. I went through 3 of those and they contributed to divorces a fair bit. I spent somewhere around $2-3 million on my son - cancer care in Canada. Seriously- one drug he got cost me $1 million alone. Now you have an endless wait on top of that.

Coming from a 3rd world country where it works like in the US and having experience with the Canadian healthcare system during my cancer treatment, I must say I prefer the Canadian system. Although I have to say that I went through the treatment more than 10 years ago. Things may have changed a bit. My 2 cents on the Canadian healthcare system is that the admin staff, especially the manager level has become too top heavy. The more money is thrown at the system the more the managers scoop up and when cuts are needed, they cut registered nurses instead of the red tape top heavy managerial level. One really doesn't need a manager to manage a manager to manage a manager to manage a manager etc. There should be a lean, very smart and competent managerial level and a lot of nurses. I sometimes think we don't really need more doctors. We need doctors that are willing to work 8 hours a day like us pleps. However the rural areas do have problems. The doctors all want to work in the cities.

@@ChristiInCanada Yes I'm as cancer free as one can be now for 14 years, thanks be to God. I'm thankful for the Canadian healthcare system that we didn't have to stress about paying for any of the treatments. Now what I read about the Mayo clinic in the States is that they are one of the best, better treatment than what the Canadian system can provide. However it is extremely expensive from what I heard. Free doesn't always give the best, but it was enough for me.
