Thank you folks for sharing all of this with us. Is it okay that I cried at the end? Neo reminds me of me. Norfolk and Western’s main line between Roanoke, Va and Winston Salem, NC ran about 150 yards from our homestead, and I learned to drive on a Ford 8n at the age of 12. I am now 59, but Neo and I had the same loves…..trains, tractors, fishing and outdoors. I do keep all of you in prayer. God bless my friends!
I live just a couple hours drive from the 2 foot railroad and I've ridden it around his property a few times . I'm Saddened that it's not here anymore but I am happy to know it went to a good home where it can be still loved and appreciated . Thank you
Thank you for your thoughts. Bitter sweet, I'm sure. The only thing that stays the same is change. Gina and I know this all too well. Have a great day.
I am very excited to see this porter run on your railroad. The locomotive is in great hands and looks like it is ready to stretch it legs on a long run. If you ever need 2 ft gauge railroad inspiration, I suggest researching/visit the Wiscasset, Waterville, & Farmington Railway up in Maine. They are currently rebuilding a 2 ft gauge steam locomotive and almost done constructing a new wood round house. They also have an Incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff.
What a great video, I really enjoyed that! I can tell a lot of time and effort went into filming and editing. It paid off! I very much enjoyed this both for its drama free narrative and for its honest and honorable depiction of the working man. Kind and personable, straightforward, patient, smart and experienced, tough. I really enjoyed the thoroughness of the preparation. Aligning the rails on the trailer, every bit of cargo aboard diligently & effectively tied down, little details like Diz putting shims into the stacks of sleepers to get it juuust right. And the best part: all the effort was rewarded! Zero accidents, zero injuries. Capital! The showcase of both modern and vintage technology was a stirring sight. The century old steam tractor (from the first leg of the drive) hauled by a modern truck with a gargantuan sleeper cab, driving along thousands of miles of paved multi lane highways. The brand new, plastic wireless remote control used to operate the winch while loading the antiquated train and cabin on the trailer. Excellent, excellent!!! I could go on!!! The best video I have seen in awhile! A real work of art, a statue commemorating the White Man and his American culture without bias, and most important, without the uploaders intent. This video was made with one purpose, but it served another fantastically. Thank you for uploading! A really, really good video! I would love to see more things like this, and based on the comments a lot of other people enjoyed it too. Subscribed!

That is a wonderful dream coming to reality you are undertaking there. Very exciting, lots of work but immensely rewarding. Don’t talk 2’ down. We in South Africa were double heading steam timber trains at over 1000 ton. Live the dream!

As someone who absolutely loves anything to do with trains, seeing this one fully restored and working makes me really happy. Would be so cool to own a few hundred acres of land and have a small train like that one running throughout the entire property. Maybe a property with a few creeks and streams just to have an excuse to have the train go over bridges over looking water. I live near where trains pass by a few times each day. If I listen hard enough I can hear it from my house. ( I live 3.80 miles from the nearest train tracks. ) So neat hearing the train each day.
Thank you! It's been quite the journey so far but I can't lie, it is pretty cool having a train in my front yard. I couldn't believe how well this steam engine was maintained when I found it. There's a lot of interesting history behind it for sure.
@LibertyFarmsNeoWilsonRailway I didn't even know porter even made 2ft gauge! it's adorable I keep looking for a engine I want to purchase like yours but right now I don't even have a railroad to run it on or the money to its a good thing to save money to achieve stuff like this it's like saving up money for a car but tiny and runs on rails thank you so much for making this video!!!

Hey again Paul. (I’m learning who y’all are by reading all the comments.😊) My first comment I posted after seeing about the first half, and now having just finished the rest of it at nearly 5am. 🤪 During my first half viewing, I began to think this young man Neo was a son, and admired his efforts. Reminded me of my own late father and I many years ago… Anyway, I wasn’t prepared at all for the video end. And after pulling my emotions I had to dig into the comments to learn about Neo’s passing. Hit me like a ton of bricks..😔 I’m so sorry for your and Ms. Gina’s loss. But I’m elated to see your efforts continue in his memory…😊 (I have a great friend that recently retired from railroad car shop and moved back to Michigan to farm. I’m going to holler at him and see if he’s close to you-wouldn’t that be something? You’d love the fellow…😊)
I did basically the same as you. I hired a semi with a lowboy plus brought a truck with a car trailer. I picked up a 60’ long rubber tired steam train parade float. I didn’t know what I was getting into, I paid $25,000 for this thing. Engine, tender and caboose came from Woodhull, Illinois and brought it to Chaska, Minnesota. Over five years we were in so many parades getting $1000 a parade and $1500 if we gave four hours of train rides as the train held about 30 people per ride. I was president of Gopher State Railway Museum and that is how we raised money and advertised. My last year we did 26 parades.
Awesome! You are doing what I always dreamed of. I bought a farm in 94 and had a deal on the track but it fell through at the last moment and I never did build a railroad.
My local Zoo just sold 2 locomotives (1/4 size coal fire- steam) one is going in service at Wisconsin Dells area. The other to a R/R museum. The milwaukee county Zoo is switching to all diesel fuel engines . After 66 years at theZoo. County zoo. The old Zoo is now a park adjacent to the former Miller Beer breweries
I live south of where you picked up the Rail cars, a mile from the Oregon Rail Heritage Center. Their equipment is all standard gauge as they have a shunt that hooks onto the main commercial railroad. Some of it is steam and the rest is Diesel Electric. They just got in a Geared Shay engine and will run excursions with it. Thank you.
It's really so cool how y'all all worked together loading up the train and it's car really so cool of a train and it's operation over the years and it's going to continue on with that legacy with a new beginning in a different state of the union yes indeed it is so very nice to be American who lives in this great country it's really such a beautiful feeling to have the freedom that we all have in this awesome country
Notice you talked about Northfield and Canyon Railroad, Jim Mahacheck was one of my museum members. His steam up days were wonderful but when his friend was crushed by his caboose Jim was crushed too. With your resources you could even move historical railway buildings from your area.
Thank you for sharing your story!! My Grandpa worked on the RR in Logansport IN. I don’t know the time frame he worked on the RR… But I’m 66yrs. Old…. Thanks again …❤️🙏❤️
That was enjoyable, only way I'll ever travel across America (getting on myself) and a good subject. Viewed from western Australia. Thanks for taking us along. Not sure what happened to Neo but sounds a little tragic.
Holy cow, it never ceases to amaze me just who is watching. Thank you for the kind words and I'm glad you enjoyed! Sadly Neo passed away just under a month after getting the train home. We talked about it a little bit more in our most recent upload, and we will more than likely discuss it further as we continue.
@26:30 I loved that T-Shirt and laughed really hard ❤ A great story but you left me hanging, what happened to Neil? I read all the comments and didn't see any more info about him other than he died in July, 2022 and I am truly sorry and sad for you and your wife and I cried at the end of this video. If you want to keep it a private family matter, I can understand that too. And if I can make a suggestion to you based on history, I am going to write you a private email and you can discuss it with your wife and you don't even need to reply back to me.
You are a good kiind of crazy, i have loved steam equipment from the day i drove a train at 7 years old from Baird to clyde Texas. Like cast iron skillets old trains can live for ever
Hmmm I almost skipped over this post. Im glad I didn't, this is an awesome story of an idea that came to fruition through PATIENCE AND LOTS OF WORK. I hope the break down wasn't too awful bad. Your Brother Niel, sounds like he's passed on. When someone passes on only their body remains here with us. The Soul goes off to the be with the father of many nations Abraham. There they are in a perfect slumber pending their resurrection and a lengthy conversation with our Lord Jesus Christ. If there was faith in Niel that was at least the size of a mustard seed, there is a outstanding chance you all will have him back in utterly perfect perfection...😊 Im Scott and I'm subscribed and I'll be watching and looking forward to seeing more of your story as it will unfold... 😷🚕🛣️🤔😊✌️🌞🧐
i volunteer at old pueblo trolley in tucson, az, helped move buses, trolleys, train cars its hard work, i painted the steam locomotive at the southern arizona transportation museum the old depot southern pacific building. i enjoyed the former owner riding them while loading on your new trailer
You may want to get a set of axle straps. They are reinforced and have an abrasion resistant Kevlar sheath, which is better than just the regular tie-down. I've had two regular 7k lb straps cut during transport.
I was watching my subscription videos and somehow this came on in between them within seconds I was caught up in this story. What a guy you are I will probably never get to your railroad because I’m an Aussie but if I ever do get to the USA I would love to see it close up . 16:04
Back in the 80's I was living on Cape Cod, MA and commuted to Boston. On one trip I passed a truck towing a trailer with a large locomotive on it. Odd thing was the loco was fired up and puffing smoke out the stack! It ended up in Hyannis for a Christmas event.
i just finished a baldwin280 took over 7 years to restore it. after i bought it from a musuem innorth dakota. it is here on my ranch is washington state, i hav eover 15000 ftof track all done. had its first fireup a week ago, a few leaks here and there no biggy boiler company out of new jersey came out to repair it. since they built the new boiler anyway/has 3 cars with it now. bought them out of tn. i spent way to much money. today will run it around the property. this is for my use not public. i also have a old southern pacific early diesel runs but is in the barn also all restored. the 280 is my baby. i remember after it was all painted i grabbed a sleeping bag and had to sleep in the cab lol there is nothing like the smell of a steam locomotive
That is pretty exciting!!! We might be coming back to Washington next year for another load of rail. Text me your name and number if you want to. 906 361-3167 thanks Paul Wilson
Thank you for watching, and we're glad you enjoyed! All of the music used in this video (and all others so far) came from soundstripe. If you would like to know specifically at certain timestamps which songs were used feel free to reply to this and I'll point you in the right direction 👍
This is awesome! Nice to see locomotives being kept in operation. Im from a farm in New York and we also have a family farm! We are looking to add a steam locomotive. We saw you mentioned looking at the “Nevada Girl” which is the exact type of locomotive we are looking for built by crown. Do you have any contact ways we could get in contact with to see if the locomotive is still for sale? We would truly appreciate it. Again. Great work!
Awesome! Thank you! It is the locomotive in the video at 1:27 I am referring to. I know it’s mentioned in the video it was for sale and im just wondering if you know if it is! Thank you!
That is awesome! I see on a regular basis the original steam locomotive from the Northfield & Cannon Valley railroad in Minnesota. You guys bought that railroad too? Bringing it back into service or bringing assets to Michigan? Either way this all looks like an exciting project 😁
Hello there! Apologies on getting back to you late. In away we are both brining back into service and moving the assets to Michigan. We plan to run the H.K. Porter and the Plymouth once the railroad is finished. All rail and rail-equipment I got from the Northfield & Cannon Valley will be put to good use on an active line. Thank you 😎
Where are you located as I would like to take a ride. My family’s Lumber Mill Operations ran tram trains hauling logs to the Foster Lumber Company’s Mill, Fostoria, Texas north of Houston. It was an operation run from the 1890’s until 1955/56. Always wanted to see what the forest tram roads carried back in the day. RSVP with thanks.
We are not open to the public yet. So please send us an email. I will give you our phone number. To set up arrangements. Thank you. Skandia Michigan to answer your question.
Just stumbled onto your channel. I like this one video I quite understand who you are. I quite not understand who the truck driver is and Neil who is Neil just don’t understand your channel at all if you want to explain that’s fine if not OK
It's a long story. My best advice for now would be to go watch all of the previous videos to get a better understanding. But here is a brief summary. My son Neo and I started building this railway together. Not long after that he passed away 😢 at the age of 16. It's been a hard journey for Gina and I but we are continuing to build the railway in his honor.
Just came across this in my suggested feed. Why the f did I cry like a baby watching this? Just felt like he had to give up ol Yeller. I know it was and end of an era and the start of new life. Just wasn't expecting my feels to get involved. Glad no one was home and I can retain my masculinity!
Neo sadly passed away in July of 2022, just over a month after getting the train. We're still trying to figure out the best way to let newcomers know about it, but nonetheless you'll be seeing him in more old footage as we go forward. Thank you
The learned wisdom in your remarks regarding buying a new trailer verses a worn-out used one as you're driving thousands of miles. Over my life, I've watched people step over $100 bills to save pennies. Beat up equipment, worn out, sun cracked tires, bad bearings, worn-out brakes, leaking hydraulics, cracked frames, the list is endless. They never factor in the costs associated with breaking down. Years ago, my sister, her husband, and their three small boys decided they wanted to take the boys to Disney land. They intended to drive from Portland Oregon to Orange County California in a Chevy 1/2 ton van with 160k miles on it and NO air conditioning. I asked why on earth wouldn't you just fly? Alaska Airlines has family travel packets. You leave Portland at 07:00 and arrive in Orange County around 10:00. Stay at the Disneyland hotel, and you won't need a rental car. They have a shuttle from the airport right to the front doors. Check in, grab lunch, and head into the park by noon. No arguments or kids fighting in a hot car for 17 hours, that's assuming the van doesn't break down, overheat, or the transmission dies. Not to mention multiple meals on the road, multiple gas fill ups. I remarked if you can't afford to fly, then you can't afford this trip. They flew and just shortened the trip to four days instead of seven. Paying up front to do something the right way will always be cheaper in the long run!
Visit the j&l railway at youngstown steel heritage museum in hubburd ohio they have 4 h.k.porter of the same guage and your welcome to bring your baby too there a welcome bunch
Manufacturers back in the day needed to make something that would be safe to operate in the mines. There's a lot of information on our locomotive in the "history of" video but it was originally used in the silver mines out in Wallace & Burke Idaho. The mines would have an active air line going down the length of the mineshaft for the locomotive to "refuel". We'll see if we can't find one that's still operational in a future video! :)
I won't go into detail on that one until later, but all I can say for now it TOO much, and we're not even close to being done yet. I can't rightly remember how much it was for Diz before me but it was easily within 6 digits.

Awesome trip Awesome train great job guys. Thanks for taking us along !😅 😂 🎉
Thank you. And your welcome.
Thank you. Level some contact information and I will try to get ahold of you.
i just went on a road trip across country with you. i loved every minute of it. Great Video Good Luck with the Railroad Guys.
Thank you!
You are a good kiind of crazy, i have loved steam equipment from the day i drove a train at 7 years old from Baird to clyde Texas. Like cast iron skillets old trains can live for ever
Thank
Hmmm
I almost skipped over this post. If there was faith in Niel that was at least the size of a mustard seed, there is a outstanding chance you all will have him back in utterly perfect perfection...😊
Im Scott and I'm subscribed and I'll be watching and looking forward to seeing more of your story as it will unfold...
😷🚕🛣️🤔😊✌️🌞🧐
Thank you for the good words. Neo was my son, and he passed away at the age of 16. Thank you for your support.
Very cool guys it's a lot of work heavy iron
impressive video, thanks!
Thank you for watching!
i volunteer at old pueblo trolley in tucson, az, helped move buses, trolleys, train cars its hard work, i painted the steam locomotive at the southern arizona transportation museum the old depot southern pacific building. i enjoyed the former owner riding them while loading on your new trailer
So cool.
You may want to get a set of axle straps. They are reinforced and have an abrasion resistant Kevlar sheath, which is better than just the regular tie-down. I've had two regular 7k lb straps cut during transport.
I was watching my subscription videos and somehow this came on in between them within seconds
I was caught up in this story.
What a guy you are
I will probably never get to your railroad because I’m an Aussie but if I ever do get to the USA I would love to see it close up . 16:04
That would be great!
Back in the 80's I was living on Cape Cod, MA and commuted to Boston. On one trip I passed a truck towing a trailer with a large locomotive on it. Odd thing was the loco was fired up and puffing smoke out the stack! It ended up in Hyannis for a Christmas event.
Thats pretty cool.
You need to talk to RUclipsr . Dave . From Thats Railroading . He would love to see your train .
Great story I am a steam Train lover myself.
Thare is a steam train here in England call Rislip Lido is beautifull.
Steam is pretty amazing!
Sad ending. Please tell me neo is still among us and just moved away? Very cool video thanks for sharing!
@@BCRailman96 Neo passed away about one month after we got the locomotive home. We are continuing to build the railway in his honor. He was only 16
@@LibertyFarmsNeoWilsonRailway so sorry to hear that. 😢
wish we were closer I am a woodworker. I make some things look old and original. sure would be fun to build a railcar
We have a few other cars we will be working on in the future. We may need some pointers when we go to restore the rest!
Thanks for sharing, new sub!.
Thank you for watching, and welcome aboard!
Why no bowlines in tow rope. I worked for JE Monigold in Bow. BiUilt a new cedar mill. Great person. Great video.
So how fun it is to own your own railroad 😊😊
I wouldn't have it any other way.
i just finished a baldwin280 took over 7 years to restore it. after i bought it from a musuem innorth dakota. it is here on my ranch is washington state, i hav eover 15000 ftof track all done. had its first fireup a week ago, a few leaks here and there no biggy boiler company out of new jersey came out to repair it. since they built the new boiler anyway/has 3 cars with it now. bought them out of tn. i spent way to much money. today will run it around the property. this is for my use not public. i also have a old southern pacific early diesel runs but is in the barn also all restored. the 280 is my baby. i remember after it was all painted i grabbed a sleeping bag and had to sleep in the cab lol there is nothing like the smell of a steam locomotive
That is pretty exciting!!! We might be coming back to Washington next year for another load of rail. Text me your name and number if you want to. 906 361-3167 thanks Paul Wilson
Great video anyway but I love the clips of music. Can you let us know where they from please ?
Thank you for watching, and we're glad you enjoyed! All of the music used in this video (and all others so far) came from soundstripe. If you would like to know specifically at certain timestamps which songs were used feel free to reply to this and I'll point you in the right direction 👍
May I ask if there will be a future video?
Most definitely!!!!
Again. Great work!
I have never heard of this locomotive. But I will do some research.
Awesome! Thank you! It is the locomotive in the video at 1:27 I am referring to. I know it’s mentioned in the video it was for sale and im just wondering if you know if it is! Thank you!
At 33:30 (+/-) that "skyhook" is "wimpling perceptibly" with the tender. I am amazed.
Interesting that it originally came from Willits or Laytonville. One of my sons works in Willits and the other in Laytonville.
Small world 🌎
And of course now I subscribe 🎉
Thank you! There is a short story about why we do what we do in the middle of the next video. We hope you enjoy!
Thank you 😎
I’ve loved steam engines ever since I was young & emergrated to NZ when steam engines got replaced by diesels much to my disappointment!
I do wish there was more steam out there!
Cool story, I must’ve missed you saying it, what did it weigh at?
I'll have to get back to you on that one but I think Diz brought it up in our "History Of" video. If I find the info I'll get back to you here.
@26:21 Love that t shirt, is it available for purchase ??
That was a gift 🎁 no idea where it came from, sorry.
It's been a hard journey for Gina and I but we are continuing to build the railway in his honor.
very cool !
Thanks
Just came across this in my suggested feed. Why the f did I cry like a baby watching this? Just felt like he had to give up ol Yeller. I know it was and end of an era and the start of new life. Just wasn't expecting my feels to get involved. Glad no one was home and I can retain my masculinity!
Mr Dennis it’s ok to cry like a baby, but if you have to use the f word to prove your masculinity at only shows that your not a nice guy
What happened with neo ? So sad to hear
I couldn't agree more. I do have my junk, but It has its purpose and its place.
got to keep on the rail from the uk
Visit the j&l railway at youngstown steel heritage museum in hubburd ohio they have 4 h.k.porter of the same guage and your welcome to bring your baby too there a welcome bunch
Thanks
we have nothing like that in australia people restoring locomotives and equipment i really wish we did we do have a rail museum
Sounds like you have an opportunity! You could be the first one!
Thirlmere in NSW has a big steam rail museum they run trips on their own tracks
When you put your farms logo on their make it gold leaf. Gold, red, Blue
Compressed air? Fireless? Never seen one like that before
Manufacturers back in the day needed to make something that would be safe to operate in the mines. :)
Did he mention why he is selling the train he loves so much?
Had you considered running the engine on compressed air to get it onto the trailer, or at least up to the winch line?
Yes. Doing what we do, we try to take in all options and then make the best decision.
surprised you guys didnt charge the loco with compressed air just to get it up the ramp, then open the blow down valve
I wonder if you also got some of the track along with the loco. Is the 2 ft track readily available? Cheers.
Yes, we got lots of rail. It's getting harder to find.
Why did Diz sell the locomotive ?
I had a chance to run it when he first bought it in the late 90s
We don't live forever some day I will pass this locomotive on to someone else also.
Do you need an engineers certificate to operate this beautiful steam locomotive?
No
How much did it cost to build the railroad?
I won't go into detail on that one until later, but all I can say for now it TOO much, and we're not even close to being done yet. I can't rightly remember how much it was for Diz before me but it was easily within 6 digits.
It was a Hard Ending But a New Beginning!
JR and I shared few Whiskeys.
Where was the old location where the steam locomotive was before u came for it
Bow hill Washington
@@LibertyFarmsNeoWilsonRailwayHI from Green Bay WI!! DiZ and 17 Porter were on C.N.N.cable TV 📺 News over 25+ years ago, really H.N. for HEADLINE NEWS!! Imada a VHS 📼 TAPES copy; because I had to wait nearly 2 Hours until it's next repeat in the daily schedule 📅!! I remember when DIZ said that he got used rails from the PORTLAND ZOO TRAIN in OREGON. And the H.N. Video of 17 Porter smoking past the flowers 💐 🚂🚃💯‼️✌😁‼️🍷🍾💒💞💝!! CONGRATULATIONS ‼️
Maybe you could contact C.N.N. for a copy in their archives.
Also, I myself wanted to start a little railroad club on a farm near Green Bay; but the farm was sold for the apartments, or for the industrial parks; and sole of the now empty warehouses have rail spurs; yet maybe I will get a private Pullman Observation car and make a special B&B condo for extra guests for the PACKER FANS of Lambeau Stadium 🏟 😊❤🎉!!
Neat idea!! Cool ✌ 😎 🆒️!!

That would be awesome
Do you guys need a couple ranch hands? Or and assistants?
You never know.
I can hear that winch is not happy pulling that engine.
