Hi RF. Damien from pa here. I had a less than steller flapper prefomance last year . Instead of whining about it I did some research, which led me to you and Dr ashby. I followed your adult arrow building advice carefully. Built some 650 grain arrows tiped with 250 grain cutthroat. I whistled one through a huge 10 point today. The shot was placed right where you recommended. The buck went 35 yards! One of the best bucks I ever killed. Thank you for your priceless contributions to the bow hunting community!!!!!!!!
I have bow hunted 32 years now and ranch fairy you are the only man on RUclips iv seen putting good info out for hunters!! When I stated there were no flappers but hunters today have become lazy with there archery setups. It’s easier to throw a flapper on a lite arrow and shoot it fast because that’s what the so called experts say to do because it’s easy. Well in my experience easy isn’t always better! Shoot adult arrows and listen to the ranch fairy if you want to be successful this season!! Thanks for being here and putting this out for everyone our game animals deserve a quick kill by a responsible hunter
Love the channel and I also found you through THP! I am a vibrations engineer and just recently did a study on the harmonic response of gun barrels and how developing a load that works for your gun is the equivalent to tuning your rifle. In a rifle, the resonant component is the gun barrel and finding the right powder charge will drastically shrink groups. I say this because your process for a bow is the exact opposite! With a bow, the resonant component is your arrow which you are tuning to match the load from the bow. I am excited to put these tactics to use! Thanks brother!
I need to use this example in a video. On that topic, the first person I ever heard talk about this was Peter Capstick. It was in an article about always using a rest. But he described the harmonic response and why you don't rest the BARREL on anything. It kills the "barrel whip" (that was his way of simplifying the idea)
@@ronaldirvineII Sorry I missed this Perfect flight Cut on contact 550+ grains total arrow mass I have ways to do this on my channel - but I bet you’re already tuned up
Just found this channel at the "right time". Just got back into bow hunting last year. At age 14, I bought my first compound bow, a Jennings model T($189.00). That was 49 years ago. The Old Boy who sold me the bow said he would only sell me a bow that I could only pull twice. My job was to pull that bow enough times over the summer to shoot for hours. I did that. Open sites with fingers. There were no releases then. He also sold me heavy aluminum arrows. He said, "Better flight, Better penetration". He was a man of few words. You would have liked him. Thank you for sharing your expertise. I have a lot to think about.
I've been hunting 25 years, you are getting me to question everything. I'm going to adopt your system this year and put in work, I'm excited to start the process.
@@jonathangerwitz1429 It worked out really well made the best flying arrows I have ever shot. Been killing a lot of targets but still haven’t got an animal. We had our 3rd baby last July so hunting time is hard to come by.
This video has my all-time favorite Fairy-ism... “Do not email me that... I will respond (insert fairy laugh)... IT’S PREDICTABLE” Hahaha gets me every time
Found you through the hunting public podcast. I haven't bow hunted in 10 years since my 1969 bear polar ltd finally had a limb warp. Just researching now before buying my new setup. Thanks to your channel I can avoid wasting money learning about twizzlers the hard way.
I dont know if you read these but i want to say Thank You for what your doing. Ive struggled for a many years bow hunting until this year. I've harvested eer with light arrows but tracking was questionable on several deer. This year I have harvested 2 bucks. 1st one was a complete passthrough at 14 yards from a tree stand and arrow was BURIED on the other side. Slightly quartered away. Entered just behind rib cage just above mid body and exited front shoulder. I watched him fall over at 30 yards and was expired in mimutes if not less. The other was ground level ever so slightly quartered away. Entered just behind shoulder mid body and exited shoulder blade of opposite side. Arrow was 25 yards past the animal buried in the dirt. I didnt see crash because of brush but, he went less than 40 yards. You dont need a blood trail with these results. My arrow setup is cheap amazon arrows, 250 spine cut to 29 inches with 150 grain brass inserts and a 150 grain magnus stinger 2 blad double bevel. Total arrow weight is 615 plus or minus a few. They are bullets out to 30 yards after tuning and tinkering. Moral is it works. I wanted to say thank you and to keep doing what your doing.
Coolest thing about Ranch Fairy is he actually responds to your messages! There is a ton of content here, well done. I do think we should all consider what he is saying in regards to single bevels and owning the sharpening. If that's not in your wheelhouse, then maybe single bevels are not the right choice. There's sharp and then there is horror movie sharp.
Troy I can’t thank you enough for putting me on the right path. I just ordered the “Ranch Fairy” test kit in the Sirius Apollo 250/300 Like you said “The ONLY WAY is threw !
Hello Mr.Troy, Jordan G. here & I just wanted to say you were 100% correct Sir! I am shooting a Diamond fugitive 2011 model, 28 in draw, at 67.5 pounds. So I received my Ethics Ranch Fairy special 200/300 & went through the process this morning. Well before finding you through The Hunting Public guys, I had already purchased my normal twizzler set up (Regrettably Now) a 340 with my rage trypan. Thankfully I had some 300's & 250's laying around, because Sir when I put the heavy heads on those 340's they did EXACTLY what you said every single shot flopped like a noodle on slow motion (Side note i shot every field tip 200/300 on every shaft weight thoroughly going through the entire process as instructed). Well the final results & set up for what my bow likes, a 300 spine with a 200 grain tip. Shoots like a dart, just a very VERY minimal impact paradox almost non existent. I have already ordered my Gold tip 300's & plan on selling the 340 noodle doodles, I have decided to go heavy broadhead I really like the 200 cutthroat single bevel & the 200 woodsman elites 3 blade. I've also looked at the Grizzly stick 200 samurai single bevel & some Vpa's but they are all out of stock. So i have got options, I went ahead & purchased a Leather strop, 2 DMT diafolds & have been getting my skills in on some my knives & Muzzy's one 3 blades (For the practice!) My skills are really coming along & getting lethal! I just want to say Thank you Sir for everything & I will be emailing you all data from animals specifically whitetails & videos I manage to capture. I fully support your quest to carry on Dr.Ashby's legacy & research i hope i can help in ANY way! Thank you Sir once again & God Bless you my friend!!
Hey ranch fairy! effing love your channel man. Been following for a while after I first read the ashby reports. You might find this humorous. My 9 year old son shoots a pse mini burner at maybe 20 lbs draw weight. He shoots plates out to 20 yards with Goldtip 300 shaft @647 grains. He only shoots bare shafts. He has a whisker biscuit and without the fletchings he's super accurate. I let him shoot my fletched arrows and he always go back to the bareshafts because he's more accurate with them. Pretty amazing. The looks he gets at 3d shoots are hilarious. No nun chucks here!

Thanks Troy for the great info, never been more pleased with my set up than I am now 560 gr 17.54 % foc bare shaft or fletched they fly like darts thanks again, go through the steps people ,it worth it , wow
I was a speed freak. I have a Reign 6 and a BTX31. I was using 400 gr arrow. I lost deer I got pissed. I shot a 525 gr this year. I was breaking and passing through bones. The farthest one ran was like 25 yds. I’m building 600’s this year. I’m glad I found your channel. It’s also built my confidence.
Hi Ranch Fairy. Attached is a bull I harvested in Arizona. FOC is the most important thing besides using a cut on impact broad head. I have guided for years and everyone in camp shooting an expandable broad head has had a 33% chance of retrieving the bull. I will never guide a hunt again for elk unless they are using a cut on impact broad head with at least a 15% or greater FOC. The bull I shot was 363" and I was using a 580 grain arrow with an insert and broad head with 17% FOC. The arrow went straight through the elk and stuck 8" into the dirt after passing through his vitals. I like your videos because you are correct on how important FOC is. Thanks for the great videos.
When I sharpen my knives, I strop with leather that I’ve put some rubbing compound on. The super fine abrasive in the rubbing compound works great at removing that rough edge that you’re talking about.
Im so happy I found your channel.( and THP. I've been doing all I can to prepare to hunt.I'm shooting for next season to be my first and Im just trying to learn as much as possible to be ethical and effective. I never had anyone to teach me so channels like yours are a godsend. Thanks brother.
Single plained some classic Zwickie Eskimo broadheads ( an exercise!) because 1) they were affordable, 2) none of the archery departments I’ve made it to have anything close! 450 gr arrow, 240 gr broadhead ( after gluing in a conversion to the Eskimo) they go through my “black hole” foam target like it wasn’t there. I’ve even reinforced the target with old jeans to try slowing the arrows but it slips through like butter. I am very happy I found your channel, thank you Troy.
My eyes glaze over when I think about 600 plus grain arrows or bolts, but you make a great point about what BARE SHAFTS THE BEST. I was on a quest with one of my many weapons, all weapons are equally awesome by the way, this one happened to be one of my crossbows. I stuck 250 grains on the end to get my desired 600 grains, and did pretty well with fletching. I shaved the fletching off and with field tip it made a trip to SIDEWAYS SUCK CITY. So... I kept backing down in tip weight until it shot darts with a 175 grain field tip and total arrow/bolt weight at 525. This was the heavier shaft 350 grain stuff you can get at Academy, so could not SPINE UP to get to my magical 600 grains, but 525 grains with a COC is no slouch. Thanks for all the great info. Deer season is coming up fast.
I shoot both compounds and recurve bows and I honestly can say that with both types of bows a heavier tip arrow seems to shoot better for me than a lighter tip arrow of the same spine, especially noticeable with my traditional bows. Now with anything in life, there are diminishing returns, too heavy and you going to get the opposite effects . Too much speed, control is more difficult to achieve. I guess the goal is to achieve the correct balance with your setup. Yes, penetration is an important factor but as you often stated accuracy is the most important thing. I rather hit what I aim at lower speeds than miss the spot with warp speed ... hahaha . People are still going to chase speed because that's how humans are built, more is always better. Thanks for all your time. I see you are passionate about our sport and so am I . please keep us informed because in this busy, crazy world I am happy someone is doing the work for us.
Wow, what great online banter about high FOC arrows and broadhead construction. I decided to follow the RF and do an adult build. My arrows are nothing fancy. Just an amazon deal. I bought 30", fletched and 300 spine. Also installed an EZ-V sight because I only hunt with my bow. I will be using 150 grain magnus stingers so I ordered some 150 grain field tips. I have never shot so accurate, even out to 50 yards (but I would not shoot a deer at that range). I figured the only thing missing was a descent insert. After I knocked out the original insert I weighed it an it was only 20 grains. So I installed some 100 grain brass inserts. Now my arrows are 571 grains and 19.7% FOC. I went out to sling a few to test. My release gave way on the first (accidentally) and the arrow flew into the side of my barn. I was a bit upset until I saw that only 6 inches of the arrow was sticking out. These are 1" thick hemlock boards. Next I shot my GlenDel deer. The arrows punched through it and out the other side 3 to 4 inches. No previous arrows have done that. Yeh, almost any arrow will kill a deer, but these will allow me to be off for any number of reasons and will still do some serious damage. Can't wait - 16 days from now in NY.
New sub. Man I really appreciate your knowledge and experience. I’m a bow technician by trade and you have really helped me guide customers to a successful outfit.
Just started watching your videos Mr. Ranch and I find them VERY informative, and most of all REFRESHING!! You make your videos fun as all get out to watch! I’m a newbie to bow hunting hahahaaa!! I’ll stay tuned for sure!!
Because of THP and you I have #1 figured out my arrows were .340 spine and I thought they were .300's all along (oops) #2 Ordered .300 spine arrows to test, #3 ordered .250 spine arrows to test, #4 Will be doing the Ranch Fairy test pack experiment soon. I was already shooting 505gr arrows (not terrible weight) but was getting odd flight (.340 spine isn't stiff enough), but can't wait to get good flight and kill power!
@@chrisp6247 ha just checked my RUclips email today- when you foot an arrow it effectively shortens the arrow therefore making it stiffer. Try it you might learn something.
The video you put out in the future on sharpening broad heads will be extremely helpful! Looking forward to to it! I don’t get mine sharp enough! Keep up the good work, Troy!!
Thanks for all your info. My long bow is 52lb with 30inch draw. Shooting 340 spine gt trads with 100 grain insert 100 grain screw in weight and a 150 grain kudu point. The doe i shot in early season ran 40 yards and layed down. My buck i shot in late season only ran around 60 yards. Both layed down in sight. Changed my set up 2 years ago when i moved to trad hunting and have never looked back. Im even shooting 575 grains through my crossbow. That nock tuning video was a great help. Thanks again Troy for the videos.
The boneproof Ultra FOC arrow build is all about weight management. Getting weight out front and front of the end of the carbon. Exactly what I have communicated with Dr. Ashby about. For the last ten years my basic arrow build has began with a light gpi Gold Tip Ultralight 300 shaft that ends up about 300 grains with 2.5-3" feathers. Then I add 500-600 to the front consisting of, in a number of different combinations,.....custom external long and double footings, insert, extended adapters I designed for Tuffhead and either a Tuffhead or the Meathead (I named for Joe Furlong when he owned it) or the Big Jim Big 3, when I choose to use a three blade to blow up whitetails. That 31.5" shaft usually results in 800-900 grains with 32%+ Ultra FOC shot from my 68@31 Black Widow recurve. That arrow flys great and blows up any animal part it hits and lives thru it to talk about it.
Oh I know they are blowing through !. I'm a whitetail hunter from the northeast. I hunt 99% of the time from a 22' perch.Im getting 258 fps with my 486 gr arrows. I guess I can build up one heavy shaft and see how I like it :) Keep up the good work Troy !!
Same thing here in MN. My hunting shafts were 520 grains & they did well. Just built new shafts in January & the stability seems like my entrance, wound channel & exit through any deer will be @ another level. I am not shooting my peak 65 lbs. yet which will put my arrow maybe @ 240fps but shooting @ 57 I can see my arrow flight which is an 11 out of a scale from 1 to 10. I am months ahead of last year. Buying a SEVR target since my bullet points r blowing through the broadhead target & DIY bag target behind it, @ only 57 lbs. The reason why I switched is if I get a close shot in a thick area I want my exit 2 go through the bone where the rib bones tight on the shoulder r attached 2 the back of the brisket which is tough on a mature buck as well as the hide.
I am glad the Hunting Public boys introduced me to you. My brother and I have covered a lot of what you are conveying here for his African hunts. He runs traditional only, and he has had great success, even on heavy African game ( Wildebeest, Waterbuck, Warthog and Zebra among others ). I am more of a gun hunter even though I hunt with a stick and string every year. And as a gun guy, I find that I lean towards heavy for caliber in a number of my hunting rigs. It's merit translates to archery well. Cheers and stay safe Ranch.
Hey bud I am new to your channel and can I just say its really nice to hear some one finally speak the truth about Arrows and arrow heads spines and weights instead of all the jargon that people say or this is the best so thank you for your videos I will be looking at a lot more of them I have a lot to watch ;)
Telling all my friends how awesome this science is, but all I seem to get is a buck tooth response. Weird....anyway, you should definitely have more of your buck tooth alter ego in your videos. It's absolutely hilarious. In another year your video will all be viral. You're going to help change the whole industry of bow hunting. God bless you man! Keep preaching.
Have enjoyed what I've read. I gave up on modern rifle and hunted with Bow and Arrow and true Muzzle Loaders. I must confess I'm 80 but at least I had a Ph.D. in Physiology. You make a lot of sense to me. My patched round ball taught me that even a well placed shot didn't produce a good blood trail at first until enough blood filled the lungs for the animal to blow it out when breathing heavily. I guess I was just lucky that I felt it necessary to sharpen the arrow heads and that with my methods it cut best if the sharpening strokes were from point to rear not rear to point as all the archery shops taught. I wasn't using such fine grits as you do and was thinking more about micro serrations angled forward rather than backward. It cut paper better my way but no one listened. we were not putting the microtome edges on the blades you do. It would have been great.
Great info as usual Troy! I've been the circle from heavy arrows, COC broadheads to light arrows & flappers. I've taken lots of critters with both and lost a few (sad but it happens). However the very few I've lost or had to blood trail very far were when using light arrows and flappers. All but two deer shot with adult arrows and heavy, razor sharp, 2 bladed cut on contact broadheads have expired in sight and this is in the southeast hardwood and pine region. It's been my experience and opinion that with deer (never shot a hog) if your shooting the correct heavy arrow and broadhead combination and make a correct hit, the critters never make it out of sight or a least you hear them crash. If you don't see or hear them crash you'd better give them some time. Keep preaching Troy!
@@RanchFairy Agreed, alot of places around here you can see that far or at least here it crash that far. If you see it run out of sight and don't hear it crash give it a little time. Dead is dead and 30 mins to an hour wait is far better than jumping him up and pushing him out of the country is all I meant. My point was, if hit in the correct spot, most of the time you can either see it fall or hear it crash, if you don't give it some time and with the right arrow and shot placement you usually see or hear this happen. Thanks Troy!
I have gone to Sirius Arrows almost exclusively. I have some Axis for practice/target shooting but I run the 250 spine Orion and Gemini running everything from 451gn to 602gn and a minimum FOC of 16.78%. Sirius arrows are INCREDIBLE and so amazingly tough.
Wow your Subscriber # sky rocketed! As a rifle hunter aspiring bow hunter. Your pretty much hand loading arrows for your bow by FOC tuning. Great summary of alot of your videos.
Im so lost on the inserts and weight ive always been the idiot that buys a arrow sharp heads but always kill dear but never pass through. Shot one last year through the throat no pass through blew my mind watching you has changed how I hunt and at 28 changed how I hunt thank you for making me a adult as you call it 😂
I hate to go small on fletching because I am a finger shooter and I get over excited sometimes when I release the arrow so I need a back up plan. I did go from monster 5 inch fletch down to 4 inch after bare shaft tuning. Bare shaft tuning IS 100 percent amazing when it all comes together. You think it can't work, but when the point weight gets right, you just can't believe it. Bare shaft tune, go to proper weight, cut on contact broadhead, sharpen to the level of terrifying, and touch up often. Also, sight in with your broadheads. It takes time to go thru this process, so don't wait till season gets here. All great advice.
Bout time somebody gets it right, acknowledging dr ashby s work, I'm sick of people tryin to get speed and beat game to the jump, without taking terminal arrow study and tuning into account, been shooting heavey foc arrows cut on contact forever and have been stone cold killin with recurve for many years, glad to see a man figuring into the science of penetration
Thank you for finally coming up with a solution for testing arrows without buying dozens of arrows. I love the Ranch Fairy test kit. Most of us normal folks don't have the money to buy tons of arrows to test different spines. Now we can buy a couple close and test different weights to figure out what works best. #AdultUp
I have been watching you for a while and loved seeing the podcast with the THP guys. I have always shot high FOC heavy arrows out of my traditional bows. I am going to do a arrow build for my compound. Elite Ritual 35 67# 30.25" DL. Arrows will be cut to 28.5". I am starting out with a Black Eagle rampage 250 spine with a 100 gr insert and I have field tips 100gr-300gr. I will probably shoot one weight or another of the VPA 3 blades I have just because I have a pile of them 125-250 for my recurve. Keep up the good work.
Started Watching and tuning my arrow flight, it is already making a difference for my shooting. Thank you so much for all the great videos and information!! Also got my FOC up!!
I have not bowhunted for probably 20 years for various reasons but have picked it up again and enjoy your channel because its very informative. My arrows are 360 and I am going to try 125gr Magnus stingers which I have never tried before. I always used Muzzy's but want a point that can take some punishment and not oh the blades are all f'd up after the shot. I am shooting a lot with field points but as soon as the weather gets better want to just shoot the broadheads so I can tune it. Wish me luck My draw length is 27 if you have suggestions I am always willing to learn.
I glue a piece of wire inside my standard nocks so they weigh the same as my lighted nocks. Great for practicing but I still tune with an actual nockturnal that I will hunt with. Btw, 580 grain adult arrow with 20% foc gave me a full pass through with a kudupoint single bevel head out of my 53lb recurve this year on a whitetail doe. Keep it up sir! The fan boys are starting to follow suit and if they can efficiently kill more animals I am all for it.
Great video. Glad I found it. Been hearing about this FOC but don't completely understand it. Wouldn't mind dipping my toe in with inserts and slightly heavier heads.
100% on the single bevel. Been shooting single bevel 100% since 2017. I use a KME sharpener and I have INVESTED in several stones and diamonds. I can get my single bevel grizzlies or Tuff heads literally razor sharp. I can shave hair after the Broadhead a go through an animal and...AND... the trauma that a true razor sharp single bevel Broadhead leaves in tissue is simply indescribable. When you shoot an animal through the shoulder for a double lung with a small 1 1/8” single bevel and it leaves the entire shoulder muscle blood shot liken to a rifle bullet.....your Broadhead are sharp. There are a ton of videos out there on how to use the KME system and Ron is a great guy who will walk you through it.
FOC is the most important thing. I broke ribs on both sides of the elk and it still was pulling hard enough to bury itself 8" into the berm behind him. My son used the same setup and shot his bull quartering away and went through the ribs and out the opposite shoulder. We were only shooting 255 fps.
Killnstix Arrows out of Canada are stiff yet very light on GPI. My 250 spines are only 9.6 GPI. 300s are 8.5 and 350 are 7.9. a lot of hunters in Canada have switched over to them because you can load them up on FOC and stay lighter.
Great information for the average shooter looking to improve without all the tech b.s. Like the FOC approach to get the job done. Not made of money but love the idea. Going to up my game to the “adolescent “ level. Full adult range may be my future, just not anytime soon 😂 Did move to Magnus stinger 125’s with insert/outsert to get to 550
Been watching you long before the hunting public podcast. I’m really hoping you make some sharpening guides for single bevel as long as replacement blade and others
HAHA! My old hunting partner swore that a dull head was better. 1st thing he did when he got new heads was drag them across concrete. He'd crack on me because I'd strop my heads multiple times throughout the season. My deer were nearly all dead within 50 yards, he couldn't believe it. Every deer I helped him track went over 100 yards with poor trails. Always believed in using a heavier arrow but the high FOC thing is interesting to me, gonna try it this year. Currently I shoot axis 300's with a 50gr incert and 100gr slick tricks. (125gr heads won't shoot good with my setup) This year I'm gonna see if I can shoot 75gr of brass with a 125 or 150gr head with some 250 spine arrows.
Ohh, forgot to mention that my old hunting partner shot 60lbs with a total arrow weight of about 360ish. I shoot 70lbs with an arrow weight around 450gr. I shoot a fixed blade and unless I hit a major bone my arrow is always on the ground behind the deer. Can't wait to see what a 525+ gr 17+ FOC arrow will do.
Awesome content! Love it I keep trying to promote the philosophies at my local Bowshop and I can persuade some. I am a disciple of the Ashby studies and believe all if it
This is the video.i needed 48 hoirs ago before i went to cabelas😂😂😂... O well whats $75 on 340s?? Guess im on the search for some 300s and 250s!!! Thanks for the info sir!!
On a previous video you mentioned how gravity affects deer drop and mentioned a video it seemed you'd watched. If you're interested let me know. I'm the one that helped Grant Woods with his work on the Growing Deer episode. I've been watching a few of your videos and am intrigued by many of your claims. My goal as an engineer is always to get definitive results that can be repeated. The test for me in my job is, could I administer these results in court without getting blazed and laughed out of the court room on cross examination. I appreciate you putting your experiences out here for everyone to share.
wolfpack4128 Troy@ranchfairy.com. Hit me an we need to talk live. I talked to Dr Woods about that video. It’s way less predictable than gravity. A good thing. More to study and help archers with a solution.
I'm new to bows but I'm a bit of a physics geek. I did not know at first what you meant by a bare shaft---I thought you meant Bear shaft which I had no clue what that was. Huge knowledge gain from just a couple of your videos----thanks
@@RanchFairy Statistics are used all the time lie by Fake News. I really like your logic on this issue which I had no knowledge of before your video. I believe Arrows flopping around slow down really fast and lose their punch quickly. Kinda like tumbling bullets have no accuracy after 30 yards.
Thank you for your orientation program. I was introduced to Dr. Ashby a few years ago. I was never aware of the nocks tuning, or bare-shaft tuning(so much to read about him, i missed it, most likely). I was just using a 260 spine (28 inch) Easton with a 50 gr brass insert inside the shaft and 200 Gr broad-head . I recently took the fletches off the shaft and I can't seem to change the arrow entrance. Tried 2 bows and had the same results. I only tried up to a 200 Gr plus the 50 gr insert. 1. I Just got the test kit and will try to keep going up to 350. Q: why was there no change, shouldn't change from 150-250? 2. I was shooting at approximately 20 yards. would it make a big difference if I make the test at 21 yards? Thank you Sr.
The sharpness of broadhead is a very important factor. If they sit in your quiver,in and out of different weather they become dull very quickly,it doesn’t matter what type of blade your talking about, need to be kept sharp.
RF, you have a lot of great info out there. I'm gonna continue to digest it all this winter. But Can you do a quick 5min video for step by step for a good set up? As I am watching all this I wanna make sure I apply what your saying at the right steps. 1. Ensure your bow is tuned. New string if needed what ever. 2. Bare shaft test different arrows, weights to find what flys best. 3. nock tune arrows. 4. Add fletching 5. Check broad heads your going to hunt with. 6. Sharpen and kill stuff? Am I missing something?
I’m starting to dabble. Just got new arrows. Put 125 heads on them. Spined up a bit. They fly like bullets. They’re still light though. So I think this winter I’m going to start testing. Going to go to the brass inserts maybe stainless. Got some more research to do.
I was a chef. Sharp is a skill. I never kept my work knife as sharp as I do at home. I can shave with all my knives. I keep my hunting points in wax for less oxidation. Best to remove cold buff with leather and polish compounds and for gods sake don’t test it. Made of cast dental metal that is as hard as steel and harder to break but cheap enough. I have one left. One is somewhere on my land. The other is in my wood stand for the target. It won’t shoot again. Cut a drywall screw and split plywood and 2x4. As an experiment I think I will repeat after seeing this video. I can just fit three in one casting but after I copy my last point so I can make more copies I’ll send you some points if they turn out any good. Testing will help before I piss off a fairy with crap. It is hard to exactly match sharp balance and weight for each one. I’m just learning. I weed
Hi RF. Damien from pa here.

That’s really interesting. Have you heard of the LimbSaver Sharpshooter X-Ring Barrel Dampener? Does it work?
I need to use this example in a video.
On that topic, the first person I ever heard talk about this was Peter Capstick. It was in an article about always using a rest.
But he described the harmonic response and why you don't rest the BARREL on anything. It kills the "barrel whip" (that was his way of simplifying the idea)
@RanchFairy would u consider 125g broadhead and 75g insert to light for elk. What weight would you recommend that would work well for elk

How did it work out?
@@jonathangerwitz1429 It worked out really well made the best flying arrows I have ever shot. Been killing a lot of targets but still haven’t got an animal. We had our 3rd baby last July so hunting time is hard to come by.
This video has my all-time favorite Fairy-ism... “Do not email me that... I will respond (insert fairy laugh)... IT’S PREDICTABLE”
Hahaha gets me every time
Found you through the hunting public podcast. I haven't bow hunted in 10 years since my 1969 bear polar ltd finally had a limb warp. Just researching now before buying my new setup. Thanks to your channel I can avoid wasting money learning about twizzlers the hard way.
Awesome make sure you see the ezv sight vids.

Welcome back.
I just ordered the “Ranch Fairy” test kit in the Sirius Apollo 250/300
Like you said “The ONLY WAY is threw !

Bare shaft tuning has been the biggest eye opening, game changing method that I’ve ever done in all of archery.
Oh, it sucks. But once you put in the reps, holy smokes do arrows "fly"
@@RanchFairy absolutely
Great to hear that more hunters are interested in being more lethal!
It’s also built my confidence.
what is your draw length and draw weight?
Just found the channel. Gotta just say “ FINALLY”
Thanks Ranch Fairy Dude
Im so happy I found your channel.( and THP. I've been doing all I can to prepare to hunt.I'm shooting for next season to be my first and Im just trying to learn as much as possible to be ethical and effective. I never had anyone to teach me so channels like yours are a godsend. Thanks brother.
That’s awesome!!
I’m a bow technician by trade and you have really helped me guide customers to a successful outfit.

i watch your video then i play it in the background so it all sinks in while i do other stuff online..lol very helpful and genuine thanks..
Troy you can foot the weaker spines and it will stiffen everything up. Been building heavy's for 30 plus years. I'm glad your promoting Dr. Ashby
fastcamo no you cant. It will help with arrow strength, but any weight you add upfront weakens the spine.
I'm so glad I watched this video! Really opened my eyes to heavy arrows, tired of being lazy! Want my arrows to fly correctly! Thank you man!

Loving the videos.. changing my entire setup for next season. Just received my Ranch Fairy 200-300 grain field tips... time for the testing to begin
You use a 900 grain arrow on whitetail? lmao idiot
Oh I know they are blowing through !.
I'm a whitetail hunter from the northeast. I hunt 99% of the time from a 22' perch.Im getting 258 fps with my 486 gr arrows.
I guess I can build up one heavy shaft and see how I like it :)
Keep up the good work Troy !!
Boom boom, 250 spine, 200 grains up front for a total of 562 grains. Thank you, sir! I finally figured it out. Arrows fly like darts.
what poundage and draw are you shooting?

Thanks man.
Scott Frederick
Anyone can find a deer 60 yards away!!
First time watching!! Or should I say learning.. Thanx a bunch !!! Finally a man who knows his shit!!

Shot one last year through the throat no pass through blew my mind watching you has changed how I hunt and at 28 changed how I hunt thank you for making me a adult as you call it 😂
Welcome to the fairy dust
Love your channel Brough. (LOL) I dont archery hunt, but I bare bow for fun in the back yard. Love the Arrow info.

Thank you for your reply. He almost had me believing there was no large advantage of a heavy arrow when it came to penetration at an ethical distance

#AdultUp
Chris Businsky Lancaster sells single arrows so you can buy some different options to test.

Just found this. And want to change my set up. But have no Idea were to start. I'll have to search your channel to learn more.

We were only shooting 255 fps.
accuracy is the most important thing you moron.
What was the setup? Elk hunting first time this year. Currently have easton axis 5mm 300 spine, 75gr easton steel half out and 100gr g5 Monotec cs.
Thanks Troy! I have 2 arrows so far that shoot bullet holes bare shaft. 613 with 19.10 FOC.
Keep um coming, Troy! Good work and thanks for all of it
Killnstix Arrows out of Canada are stiff yet very light on GPI. My 250 spines are only 9.6 GPI. 300s are 8.5 and 350 are 7.9. a lot of hunters in Canada have switched over to them because you can load them up on FOC and stay lighter.
Nathan Tomas That’s great, my black eagle rampages arr approximately the same as your arrows
Was literally going to ask if he knew of anywhere in Canada selling arrows to this calibre. Thanks for the info!
Those are the same as the gold tip air strikes at 250 spine
Outdoors55 haha, Yeah buddy! I was skeptical about your channel but I can tell my education is in very good hands.
I like the concept Troy !!
With my 27" draw and 64 pounds of weight, I dont think I could get used to the 220 fps log lobbing through the air.
Dave Rushia
Well, that log won’t stop on impact
So - it’s a trade off. I’m running 740 grains on 65#’s. It doesn’t stop
All garbage
Great information for the average shooter looking to improve without all the tech b.s. Like the FOC approach to get the job done. Not made of money but love the idea. Going to up my game to the “adolescent “ level. Full adult range may be my future, just not anytime soon 😂 Did move to Magnus stinger 125’s with insert/outsert to get to 550
Been watching you long before the hunting public podcast. I’m really hoping you make some sharpening guides for single bevel as long as replacement blade and others
Austin Phillips working
Great info as always Troy!
Awesome content! Love it I keep trying to promote the philosophies at my local Bowshop and I can persuade some. I am a disciple of the Ashby studies and believe all if it

Great info as usual Troy.
I like your channel ,straight and to the point , broadhead sharpening is still a dying art ,we live in a throw a way society

I’m not gonna let it die
Great info. Looking forward to your sharpening video
great video i hunted with 625gr arrows last fall. they were amazing an I have used 825 gr arrows with my bow an they shoot well
On a previous video you mentioned how gravity affects deer drop and mentioned a video it seemed you'd watched.

Troy@ranchfairy.com.

“Liars can figure but figures don’t lie”
Math sucks - it’s so concrete!! Ha

A man with logic!!!!
Give blob targets a go man. Best one I've found for tuning and durability and not much more than blocks.
Finally and excellent trend !
I have a Ruger number one in .30-06 and I have only used it sparsely because I can’t FIND a 165 grain bullet!
ive never laughed out loud so much while also learning
Thank You for your Talent Troy!
Christ bless All that you put your hands to.
What do You think about "drunk" fletch arrows? Probably better fly in the windy wether?
The sharpness of broadhead is a very important factor. If they sit in your quiver,in and out of different weather they become dull very quickly,it doesn’t matter what type of blade your talking about, need to be kept sharp.
I love Sirius arrows!
Now question 🤔 would there be different steps or something different I'd have to do to have lighted nocks?
No, put lighted nocks in same position as standard nocks.
Thanks for the great tips and content!
4. Add fletching
5. Check broad heads your going to hunt with.
6. Sharpen and kill stuff?
Am I missing something?
He has all these things addressed on his older videos, as far as the bare shaft, nock tune, etc.
After a lot of laughing and learning, its time to go heavy
I’m starting to dabble. Just got new arrows. Put 125 heads on them. Spined up a bit. They fly like bullets. They’re still light though. So I think this winter I’m going to start testing. Going to go to the brass inserts maybe stainless. Got some more research to do.

Troy, curious about single-bevel broadheads. Do you make the non-bevel side flat before sharpening? Chisels and hand planes must be flat.
I weed
