    I don’t why people are so upset with Nathan. He represents the US all the time and does it well. He always delivers. And people are still bitching. talk all you want about Jason he isn’t able to bring home a win like Nathan does. And that’s the truth

      I love Jason Brown, his skating is beautiful, but I have to agree with you here. When it comes to the world stage, Nathan delivers. And his artistry has improved significantly.

      It's called being critical, about the judging, the choreography/music, what they're wearing, the skater's performance, and sometimes their behavior, although I haven't read any negative comments about Nathan's behavior. What Nathan has accomplished as a skater and student is already extraordinary. Probably because he was recovering from being ill, this performance was good enough to win by miles, but with some less-than-perfect landings, he's skated some better performances in the past.
      However, even without a quad, Jason Brown skated a really extraordinary performance for him. It was one of those performances which I wanted to watch over again right away, because it was so good. Most people who love skating also love certain things about skaters who will never win at the big events. It isn't all just about winning. You can be a fan of losers, too, and that's okay.

There were probably 500 stations doing nonstop reporting on Kobe Bryant, but only YOU were televising US Figure Skating and you cut to a dumb presser as the world champion is about to skate? Really? You know, your viewers who were watching figure skating could have opened their laptops and read or watched anything they like while you did your job of being the exclusive broadcaster of the finals of the US Figure Skating Championship. Whoever made this decision should be fired.

    I love nathan, but I do think hes still trying to find his own personal rhythm and style on the ice. his dance break near the end shows just how expressive he can be, but theres still definitely a division separating his dance style and the more technical aspect to his performances. I'm sure soon he'll bridge those two different sides of his performance to make a beautiful, cohesive program

      Чемпионом мира может и станет, бо прыгает хорошо, а компоненты ему щедро не пойми за что ставят. А к олимпиаде много других подрастет, поэтому если к тому времени также будет прыгать, вполне возможно, но не факт. Я буду болеть за японцев и жду молодых подрастающих россиян. На прыгающую табуретку смотреть неинтересно.

    @lookingforlilies3846 4 года назад +16

    holy crap yall no offense but lay off nathan and quite griping about quads. sports evolve, quads are a part of that. I'm sure people felt the same way when they started doing doubles and then triples. let athletes continue to push themselves and not berate them for not being what you want them to be.
    and all artistry is not gone. and artistry is definitely not the absence of quads. while this program wasnt jason brown, dont pretend that this wasnt a good performance in its own right. also, specifically for nathan, he has said his favourite part of skating is the jumps, so obvs you're gonna see that reflected in his individual programs. no one is forcing you to like it, but stop acting like it makes him a bad skater.

    • @lookingforlilies3846
      @lookingforlilies3846 4 года назад +7

      @T Cavalcante look friend I'm not going to pretend that I'm some super expert in figure skating but obviously every judge, commentator, and skater currently in the sport disagrees with you. if you dont like him that's your own opinion and that's perfectly fine. if you think hes boring to watch or whatever, perfectly fine. but saying that hes an objectively bad technical skater is just a lie. admittedly, I think hes had much better performances than this one but point still stands.
      also, my post was mostly about how people are griping about the prevalence of quads in general not about how good or bad one thinks nathan is. frankly, I dont care to argue about whether or not someone /likes/ him because that's subjective.

    • @lookingforlilies3846
      @lookingforlilies3846 4 года назад +4

      @T Cavalcante well like I said my main problem was people saying that quads were ruining the sport, so I'm glad we're there on that.
      I know that judges are people and get affected by shit like popularity and rep. but I also think that that reputation comes for a reason. it is true tho that below par performances by these athletes are then often ignored/given inflated scores.
      as for this specific performance: I agree that his landings arent all that good. I dont know if you mean stiff leg, cause his landing leg is bent but like,, doesn't move with the landing fluidly. yeah idk like I said, I dont think this is one of his good performances, hes done better. and tbh I like this free dance but not like... a lot. so theres also that lol

    • @Brancusi2
      @Brancusi2 4 года назад +8

      Alex Have some respect for the dead. Maybe if it was Nathan that was killed you’d feel differently? Kobe is a world wide treasure especially to America and to Los Angeles in particular. Watch it on a RUclips like the rest of us.

    • @chonaV
      @chonaV 4 года назад +14

      tarquinv .... Kobe’s death was tragic and may he rest in peace. If Nathan was killed, I bet no tv program on any channel would be disrupted. I have been looking forward for the LP. I don’t mind a couple of minutes disruption to break the news. But for them to cancel the whole LP slot just to show the same clip over ad over again, was not necessary. Kobe died in a helicopter crash along with his daughter and 7 other people. See? Took me less than 10 seconds to type that out. Now let me watch my TV program.

    • @lilibetp
      @lilibetp 4 года назад +14

      @@Brancusi2 you think they'd interrupt a basketball game to do a press conference about a figure skater who died? No. And that's okay. I don't watch basketball or give a fig about basketball or think basketball is entertaining in the least. But there are people who do like basketball and I'd feel it inappropriate to interrupt a basketball game for something that can be scrolled or announced after the game or explained very quickly. I certainly expect the same respect to be given to figure skating fans.

    His consistent clean skating is phenomenal. I am a huge Yuzuru Hanyu fan and this young man's talents, intelligence and hardwork amaze me. I am glad that Yuzuru's closest rival is Nathan. If he continues to compete at this technical level, Nathan will remain unbeatable for some time. It is to do with stamina, age and pressure as well, but let's accept it: Nathan skates flawless. Yet, (to me) emotionless. Yuzu skates on a mission, Nathan skates on a goal. Both are different "candy for the eye" to watch, but I am a very emotional person so Yuzu is and always will be the GOAT for me.

    • @senemgencer71
      @senemgencer71 3 года назад +1

      @Tarot lilith linares Wow, exactly how I feel. I liken Nathan to Adele, he skates perfectly, technically very strong, has his own style etc But Yuzuru is my Amy Winehouse: even when he doesn't skate perfectly, the true emotion is there, you know that he will pour his heart out on the rink and that he will move you with his existence. I prefer the imperfect that passes me the emotion.

      FS and I have an old connection as well. In 1980s and 1990s there was only 1 TV channel in Turkey so we used to watch a lot of FS competiitons in winter, because TRT used to broadcast them live. Katarina Witt, Natalia Bestaniyova, Torvill-Dean, Plushenko, Yagudin, Kurt Browning are all well known names to me. I adored Witt and Torvil-Dean as a child (btw, I am 50). I remember drinking tea with my dad and commenting on skaters, betting on who will win and guessing the scores. Then I gave a looong break to watching FS. But at the begining of February 2021, RUclips randomly recommended a video which introduced Yuzuru to me (Notte Stellata). I can't describe you the feeling, but at the end of his performance I shed a few tears. I had seen many performances FS before, but honestly this much of grace and expression on ice , had I never. I was deeply moved. So I started to search on him, again fell in love with FS in general.
      About Crescando: I actually know about Christina, her work and her company, I contacted her for my Winnie the Pooh campaign :) yuzuru4children.blogspot.com/2021/03/let-pooh-sans-and-toys-rain-on.html
      and I have seen the video you recommended me.
      Interesting how Yuzuru connects people. I am sincerely very happy to meet you and thank you very much for all explanations. Take care and stay well.

    • @keiravollandt9592

      Basically, skaters who try harder elements get boosts in performance scores for taking successful risks.

    • @rop888
      @rop888 4 года назад +11

      Nathan has good SS, interpretation, composition, performance. He also does more transitions into harder jumps than Jason. Jason's tech is low so he can do more "stuff" in between, but the harder jumps he doesn't really Go look at Jason's 3A. He stalks it for awhile, same with the 4T attempt, while Nathan does the 3A with ease with transitions. Same with his quads.

It looked a little sluggish, the jumps were powerful, but the landings were not as controlled as Ike seen from him, and the artistry didn’t wow me. Does it just appear that way on the video? This is how a male skater should skate. The artistic for male skaters should be strength, rhythm, flow, ability to go with the music, and expression. Don't look for gracefulness from male skaters that make them look gay, unless they are really gay. Grace comes natural in ladies and gay guys.

      What a ridiculous statement. There is absolutely no reason a male skater has to be gay to be graceful on the ice. Have you watched the Ice Dancing portion of the competition? Those men are the epitome of gracefulness. Of course they combine it with great strength and athleticism, but that in no way diminishes their artistry.

      @paolocastellano2771 4 года назад +10

      @@mistique22003 Yes. It is a lot harder for Jason Brown to do a quad than Nathan because he is a lot bigger/heavier of a guy. Jason has a much higher polar moment of inertia than Nathan. Jason also lacks Nathan's explosiveness/power to weight. .... 95% If he was going to be able to do one, he would have done it by now.....
      I just watched Jason's quad toe in his LP at nationals and he simply is not using the power that he could be getting off the active edge(back outside edge to forward inside edge) to transfer his weight through to change axis. The toe heel action of the right foot during the transition to the vault to get up in the air. Jason barely gets off the ground. His body weight is not even inside of his blade on his right foot on the take off. He has almost a double hip lean on the stretch back which gives him zero power and very little ability to transfer his weight through to get off the ice even if he did have the power. His salchow jump does not utilize the correct back inside edge/body lean/hook that is proper technique that every person who does a clean quad salchow does. Quad toe and salchow are almost an identical jump that if he got one, he could conceivably get the other and have 2 quads. He will never get it the way he is doing it....
