I love Jason Brown, his skating is beautiful, but I have to agree with you here. When it comes to the world stage, Nathan delivers. And his artistry has improved significantly.
It's called being critical, about the judging, the choreography/music, what they're wearing, the skater's performance, and sometimes their behavior, although I haven't read any negative comments about Nathan's behavior. What Nathan has accomplished as a skater and student is already extraordinary. Probably because he was recovering from being ill, this performance was good enough to win by miles, but with some less-than-perfect landings, he's skated some better performances in the past. However, even without a quad, Jason Brown skated a really extraordinary performance for him. It was one of those performances which I wanted to watch over again right away, because it was so good. Most people who love skating also love certain things about skaters who will never win at the big events. It isn't all just about winning. You can be a fan of losers, too, and that's okay.

His consistent clean skating is phenomenal. I am a huge Yuzuru Hanyu fan and this young man's talents, intelligence and hardwork amaze me. I am glad that Yuzuru's closest rival is Nathan. If he continues to compete at this technical level, Nathan will remain unbeatable for some time. It is to do with stamina, age and pressure as well, but let's accept it: Nathan skates flawless. Yet, (to me) emotionless. Yuzu skates on a mission, Nathan skates on a goal. Both are different "candy for the eye" to watch, but I am a very emotional person so Yuzu is and always will be the GOAT for me.
@Tarot lilith linares Wow, exactly how I feel. I liken Nathan to Adele, he skates perfectly, technically very strong, has his own style etc But Yuzuru is my Amy Winehouse: even when he doesn't skate perfectly, the true emotion is there, you know that he will pour his heart out on the rink and that he will move you with his existence. I prefer the imperfect that passes me the emotion.
@Tarot lilith linares I was almost falling off my chair with delight as I was reading your comment 😅 Since I am an absolute beginner in ice skating, I gladly assume that what you say about Yuzuru's technical prowess is true :) Sorry, I can not stay impartial when it comes to Yuzuru
FS and I have an old connection as well. In 1980s and 1990s there was only 1 TV channel in Turkey so we used to watch a lot of FS competiitons in winter, because TRT used to broadcast them live. Katarina Witt, Natalia Bestaniyova, Torvill-Dean, Plushenko, Yagudin, Kurt Browning are all well known names to me. I adored Witt and Torvil-Dean as a child (btw, I am 50). I remember drinking tea with my dad and commenting on skaters, betting on who will win and guessing the scores. Then I gave a looong break to watching FS. But at the begining of February 2021, RUclips randomly recommended a video which introduced Yuzuru to me (Notte Stellata). I can't describe you the feeling, but at the end of his performance I shed a few tears. I had seen many performances FS before, but honestly this much of grace and expression on ice , had I never. I was deeply moved. So I started to search on him, again fell in love with FS in general. About Crescando: I actually know about Christina, her work and her company, I contacted her for my Winnie the Pooh campaign :) yuzuru4children.blogspot.com/2021/03/let-pooh-sans-and-toys-rain-on.html and I have seen the video you recommended me. Interesting how Yuzuru connects people. I am sincerely very happy to meet you and thank you very much for all explanations. Take care and stay well.

Nathan has good SS, interpretation, composition, performance. He also does more transitions into harder jumps than Jason. Jason's tech is low so he can do more "stuff" in between, but the harder jumps he doesn't really Go look at Jason's 3A. He stalks it for awhile, same with the 4T attempt, while Nathan does the 3A with ease with transitions. Same with his quads.
Siri Hammond u sound like an old fart, like my grandma, too funny. No sense of fun. Well my son said finally a real man is figure skating and his skate boarding pals all said Nathan Chen’s costume is cool that they would wear it, cause they dig hip look. Oh yeah.

Очень прошу прощения, если моя критика покажется неуместной, я его смотрю в первый раз, и ни малейшим образом ничего против него не имею!
GREAT SKATE, Nathan, but you need to go back to the Vera Wang tops. The way the material flows from the tunics during your skate takes away from your performance.
Да, в этом что то есть, что она должна, а как сделать, что бы все получилось?? Жаль, очень жаль, что у нее не складывается с этими прыжками! А он просто шедевр!!! Браво!
I love Nathan Chen, but this did not appear to be one of his best skates. It looked a little sluggish, the jumps were powerful, but the landings were not as controlled as Ike seen from him, and the artistry didn’t wow me. Does it just appear that way on the video? Am I dead wrong in my observations? It is very possibly I got this wrong...
This is how a male skater should skate. The artistic for male skaters should be strength, rhythm, flow, ability to go with the music, and expression. Don't look for gracefulness from male skaters that make them look gay, unless they are really gay. Grace comes natural in ladies and gay guys.
What a ridiculous statement. There is absolutely no reason a male skater has to be gay to be graceful on the ice. Have you watched the Ice Dancing portion of the competition? Those men are the epitome of gracefulness. Of course they combine it with great strength and athleticism, but that in no way diminishes their artistry.
I guess you were trying to say girlishness instead of gracefulness. I did find most male figure skaters look feminine on ice be it posture or costume. Nathan is really unique and has brought fresh air to once stuffy arena of men's figure skating! 👏
Why can’t Jason Brown do any quads? He was definitely my favorite of the 2. I am excited for him to start doing quads so he can claim the gold medal in 2022.
Well..because he just can't. He is learning quads for years now, he was learning when Nathan was in juniors, and he still learning 6 years later. Lol... I think he is not capable, quads not for everyone
@@mistique22003 Yes. It is a lot harder for Jason Brown to do a quad than Nathan because he is a lot bigger/heavier of a guy. Jason has a much higher polar moment of inertia than Nathan. Jason also lacks Nathan's explosiveness/power to weight. .... 95% If he was going to be able to do one, he would have done it by now..... I just watched Jason's quad toe in his LP at nationals and he simply is not using the power that he could be getting off the active edge(back outside edge to forward inside edge) to transfer his weight through to change axis. The toe heel action of the right foot during the transition to the vault to get up in the air. Jason barely gets off the ground. His body weight is not even inside of his blade on his right foot on the take off. He has almost a double hip lean on the stretch back which gives him zero power and very little ability to transfer his weight through to get off the ice even if he did have the power. His salchow jump does not utilize the correct back inside edge/body lean/hook that is proper technique that every person who does a clean quad salchow does. Quad toe and salchow are almost an identical jump that if he got one, he could conceivably get the other and have 2 quads. He will never get it the way he is doing it....
billie bellie Quads aren’t everything and the gold isn’t everything. Nathan is amazing in his own right and so is Jason! We are lucky to have both of them representing the USA! 🇺🇸
@Morgan You know what, you have a point. I should just be grateful for both of them..it’s just something about Jason I find so magnetic. I think it’s because he seems real down to earth and would never be rude to anyone..like his fans
@Morgan and everyone else: I also really respect Jason for never discussing his sexuality. I think in America we focus too much on that and when people discuss it non-stop I feel it’s almost irrelevant
@@dianasky8975 Haha, no but really. Being an "american' aside....for sure you know what the difference is between this 2 skaters right? Ill spell it for you....Nathan can out-quad Yuzuru yes, but Yuzuru can skate better than Nathan. And this routine, just proved that without a doubt... if one is truly a fan of the sport.
@@tristanbuley2409 do yourself a favor and count transitions for both skaters. Yuzuru does have better SS but this season he has been such a mess himself. And no, not talking about the jumps either. In his quest to outquad Nathan, he has emptied out his programs so much, there's nothing left. So yeah, he is an even bigger mess RN.
Lacking artistically? Not at all. You're entitled to think whatever you want. All that matters is that the judges agree with those of us who love Nathan's artistry.
@@noran7809 Great question. Let me think about it for a day or so. I think something like this: "The Aquarium from the Carnival of the Animals. Back to you later. Obviously, there's a great difference between skating with music and skating to the music. The music is very important. The Russians had it right back in the 70's.
Jason, your music choices are funky and not blend in well with your skating at all. Audience cannot feel your emotions and skills of musicality. In International competitions, most top-notch skaters choose classic music to enhance their performances. I hope you can consider it seriously.
I don't care for this at all. the music mixing is a schizophrenic mess that tells no story, the costume is typically ill-fitting and belly-flashing and the choreography doesn't even reflect the feeling of the lyrics. Big whoop, quads. Yes, he's an amazing skater. But I'll take an artist like Jason Brown any day.
Siri Hammond then should have men’s dance figure skating then for sure he win gold right, not. Cause Nathan Chen would figure a way to win that to. Never underestimate a very smart and very competitive young and hungry young man, this guy is a beast, no joke. He no fear one challenge.

About Crescando: I actually know about Christina, her work and her company, I contacted her for my Winnie the Pooh campaign :) yuzuru4children.blogspot.com/2021/03/let-pooh-sans-and-toys-rain-on.html
and I have seen the video you recommended me.
Interesting how Yuzuru connects people. I am sincerely very happy to meet you and thank you very much for all explanations. Take care and stay well.

Nathan says he feels like he has loss part of himself not being able to skate .😞
Can someone explain how Nathan’s component scores are higher than Jason’s?
Basically, skaters who try harder elements get boosts in performance scores for taking successful risks.
Amazing skating. I only wish he wouldn’t look like a soccer goalkeeper on ice, that neon yellow is horrific
his costumes don't impress me. loose shirts that fly up and show his belly, black pants. At least wear a base layer or something.
Victor Serrano good grief no sense of fun, damm u sound like my grand parents, old farts.
Siri Hammond u sound like an old fart, like my grandma, too funny. No sense of fun. Well my son said finally a real man is figure skating and his skate boarding pals all said Nathan Chen’s costume is cool that they would wear it, cause they dig hip look. Oh yeah.
Lohimeno Kawa wow, a “real man”, is your son implying other skaters are not real men just because of how they look? Damn! I just think neon yellow looks horrible but the implications of that “real man” comment are too much 😬
@@victorserrano8294 Love the "yellow brick", love simplicity. His life, his choice. Nathan no one should tell you what to wear ! Be yourself Nathan !
And love the real man too ...
Yuzaru maybe defending 2x olympic gold medalist but nathen has been on a role since then beating yuzaru multiple times an increasing his scores time after time to 330.17 the highest score wow even then yuzaru i say look out yuzaru nathen is coming for redemption an ur olympic title
Nathan is on the role as you say however please do not put pressure on him - remember what happened last time?
*yuzuru
Love this routine but 3:29-3:49 foot work sequence was a lil cringey to me not my fav footwork by him i dont like that part
Who won tho???
Nathan!
@@morganalayna4247 thanks wohooo
His score please~~
I like Hanyu... but sorry... can I get both?
The fact that he got more pcs than Brown is a tragedy. That's good, but come on. He shoudn't have won the pcs part.
nope
robbie025 Not such a big tragedy. If Jason got higher PCS Nathan would win a lot, for sure !
Disagree. Jason does easy triples. His 3A and 4T has zero transitions and tons of set up time unlike Nathan. And Nathan does have good SS.
Hope Nathan doesn't fuck up at worlds. I want him to win the gold!
One could say he’s a wondeful jumper who has both feet firmly planted on the ground ( ice ) most of the time.
GREAT SKATE, Nathan, but you need to go back to the Vera Wang tops. The way the material flows from the tunics during your skate takes away from your performance.
Alvin Gilchrist that yellow top was made by Vera Wang lol
Nice pajamas!
Thanks! Nathan destroys everyone else with his pajamas!

You’re welcome
Es un VIVA PERON!!!!
There is more to figure skating than jumps. Not a comment about Nathan but rather the direction of skating.
Nathan was ill his coach said he was laying in the floor before he skated cause he felt so bad.
fab42355 That certainly explains that, and given the circumstances, he did REMARKABLY well!
Go watch the same routine at 2019 GPF. I think that's his best and almost perfect!
This is how a male skater should skate. The artistic for male skaters should be strength, rhythm, flow, ability to go with the music, and expression. Don't look for gracefulness from male skaters that make them look gay, unless they are really gay. Grace comes natural in ladies and gay guys.
Your view is very narrow and I do not agree.
Aurora V. I’m speechless, omg. U naughty
los polinesios
Прыгает хорошо, катается плохо. Программа не смотрится,души нет . Общее впечатление как в цирке - прыжок как трюк и все.
I think in America we focus too much on that and when people discuss it non-stop I feel it’s almost irrelevant
i think this program is a mess, if it didnt include the quads.
Are you a skater ? Why do you think it’s a mess ?
@@debrakateri2979 Well, have you seen Yuzuru Hanyu?????
@@tristanbuley2409 of course. His programs are reused and are ridiculously empty. At least Nathan has transitions
Kind of sad to see so many empty seats. No more days of stars like Kwan or Yamaguchi when arenas were filled
Worlds has been canceled.
Прыжки он спасать умеет, в первой половине программы его заносило...
It’s all about jumps to get higher scores like getting good grades at school
Great athlete but lacking artistically.
Artistically athletic.
Richard Dutra nice
Lacking artistically? Not at all. You're entitled to think whatever you want. All that matters is that the judges agree with those of us who love Nathan's artistry.
Wieviel Drehungen in der luft der Typ so.ja
Кроме прыжков смотреть больше не на что...
Так же как и у Трусовой?
I like everything about Nathan's performances except his choice in music. These "kids" seemingly don't know much about great music... yet.
So what kind of music do you think is great and what would you choose for Nathan ?
@@noran7809 Great question. Let me think about it for a day or so. I think something like this: "The Aquarium from the Carnival of the Animals. Back to you later. Obviously, there's a great difference between skating with music and skating to the music. The music is very important. The Russians had it right back in the 70's.
@@charlesdavis7087 I can't disagree about Saint-Saens ...
@@noran7809 I'll send you more pieces later.
@@noran7809 Here's another totally magical piece: The Adagio from Spartacus by Khachaturian.
Jason, your music choices are funky and not blend in well with your skating at all. Audience cannot feel your emotions and skills of musicality. In International competitions, most top-notch skaters choose classic music to enhance their performances. I hope you can consider it seriously.
Bruh, are you actually saying this? Classical music only? That's so diverse ....
I don't think it's fair because he's not an American
Anyone born in the U.S. is an American, and Nathan was born in this country. By your logic I'm not an American either because my ancestors immigrated here from Sweden, Ireland, and Germany. How about yours? It should be noted that the very first people on this continent came from Asia.
I guess that means you aren't American either.
