I've been waiting weeks to see this video since you announced this Rowan.
The engineer's seat of that cab looks like the most natural place in the world for you. Truly in your element!
After all your chases of 611 and now hearing her whistle and realizing that it was you pulling the cord this time was euphoric.
And many thanks to those on the ground and "in the air" who made it possible to see and hear Rowan at the throttle of 611.
Thank God for the gifts he bestows on us.
Thanks for another great story in another well produced video. Terrific job Rowan!

@@RailfanRowan Turned out I purchased the throttle time, fire time and video. Cost me $1400 but i didn't care. 765 was one engine I just wanted to blow the whistle and when I found out you could drive her there was no stopping me. I was second ride lined up for the day at 9:30 am. So they let me climb aboard at 9 with the first driver because there was no fireman seat paid for. I sat behind the 765 fireman and talked to him for the first 30 min. Then drove her and fired so in all i was in the cab 1.5 hr. It was awesome. Because of where we were I didn't have to play by the whistle signal rules except starting , reversing and stopping. Kelly Lynch said, you paid your dues so play with that whistle as much as you want to. She is much louder and more of a shrill then 611. Sept 18, 2017 i drove her on the Cuyahoga Falls, OH short line. She was there for two weeks pulling their train.

I remember when I worked at the N&W in Roanoke terminal they had just finished the 1776 engine and everyone was always waiting to catch the 1776. The 611 was built in the Roanoke N&W east end shops and was donated to the Virginia Museum of Transportation where it sat on display until 1982 when the Norfolk Southern refurbished it and put it back in Operation.

I met Tim Hensley a few months ago. He told me all about his experiences with 611 & how he was at the throttle a few times. He also mentioned how 611 would be making another appearance at the Strasburg Railroad. I told my friends and non of them believed me. Tim was right and it looks like Rowan had an experience of a lifetime operating the Queen of Steam. Couldn’t ask for a better video.

Wow 🤩 how exciting and once in a lifetime experience! You definitely need to become an train 🚂 engineer! I can see it in your eyes how excited you are! When I was 6 years old , bk n the 1960’s a train stopped at our towns depot and the engineer let my brother and I come aboard the engine and we got to blow the whistle and he moved the train just a little bit. So exciting! Never forget it!
