I'm Sri Lankan and the war depicted in Madras Cafe is based on the Sri Lankan Civil War.The movie specifically deals with the time during the Indian Intervention. The Civil War lasted 30 years and i grew up during the latter part of it. The war was fought mainly up in the Northern part of Sri Lanka and so we never really felt it but it was terrible. It's good movie!

Please do watch Madras Cafe !! Its one of the best movies I have seen. No unnecessary romance or songs etc. Also its based on Civil war on Srilanka and India's role in it leading to the assassination of then Prime Minister of India Mr. Rajiv Gandhi. Trust me you will not be disappointed !!

Jaby - I watched this movie coincidentally immediately after I read this book called 'Tamil Tigress' (written by an ex female LTTE soldier who managed to escape and educate herself) and it all made so much sense, the LTTE issue and genocide in Sri Lanka. Very interesting movie and the book is HIGHLY recommended.

Madras Cafe is a controversial movie. It shows the Tamils Rebels as bad people .... and forgot to tell why they fight ... Tamil people fight for like 30 years for independance in Sri Lanka cuz the governement doesn't respect us ! So we were alone against a lot of contries ( indian, china, england, srilanka governement etc... ) : what an unfair battle ! Sri Lanka ARMY, raped, killed, tortured our wifes, daughters, baby : everyone ! A fucking genocide ! The UNO ( United Nations Organisation ) sended some investigators in order to see the problems and give punishment but the sri lankan governement refused their entry in sri lanka ! They wanna hide to atrocity they made to our people !
This is exactly why we Indians think our involvement was the biggest blunder we've ever made. But in some ways we didn't have a choice because the conflict was spilling into India long before our government even got involved. But yes, we shouldn't have gotten so deeply involved.
Man ... Tamils people lives in Sri lanka for centuries ! How you want us to leave our motherland , And we all want to live in peace but the army rape, kills, kidnap tamil people ! Madras Cafe is John Abraham's best film. But unfortunately Rocky Handsome is a below average violent fare. Perfect example of style over substance. Great action, bad screenplay.

Rocky Handsome is an adaptation of Korean Movie called the Man from nowhere......n being a fan of Kdramas n kmovies i can say that The man from nowhere is one of the best Kmovie i hav watched with the lead actor being won bin (one of the best movie Actors) n kim sae ron a well known child actress....havn't watched rocky handsome yet but hope it is a good movie...
this is John Abraham's career best performance. Superb political thriller, what a movie. One of the best.

Namely Satyajit Ray movies, he won an Oscars lifetime achievement award and many others. You can also go for Hrithik Ghatak movies. These are old but real gold for sure.
