  • Miami is best known for its luxury lifestyle, Latin-infused culture, and as a popular tourist destination. This four-part documentary series focuses on Miami's most notorious ghetto 'Liberty City,' documenting the struggles, the failures and the successes of Liberty City locals. Watch this raw, uncut four-part series that captures for you aspects of Liberty City life: how things go down in the hood, violent shootings, police corruption and the drug epidemic.
    Director's Note:
    My aim in producing this Documentary series is to give the people of Liberty City a voice.
    Though currently known for its Bad and Ugly aspects, there is also much Good in Liberty City; and the words "Hope" and "Never Give Up" remain strong in each individual in the City.
    2nd Episode:
    We talk to people about their experiences and problems they face on the daily in Liberty City. We also visit a historical place in Liberty City - The Scotts Project.
    Please share on all Social Networks.
    Episode uploaded every week. Watch, Subscribe and Enjoy!

    Young man in the red hat... very well spoken and informed. I love to see young black men who are aware of their surroundings and are able to make sense of the chaos. Knowledge is power.

    My aspiration is to one day be able to afford 500 dollar shoes, even if I starve. I get shot once in a while, but it's all good because I deal shit that pays less than minimum wage. I sometimes go to jail but it's o.k. because I always get out, I's sure time stops while I'm in jail, right... I talk like I have money but really I'm broke as fuck...everything I have is in my right pocket right now... and I can not even feed my kids, whom I'm a perfect example for, I mean I buy them Jordans... Jordans make people happy, right? Besides they mamma get food stamps. The other day I shot at my cousin because that dude wasnt born in my hood... man I liked that dude, but fuck why did he have to grow up in that other block...I started rapping when I was little because everyone I know raps, If wack rapers can make it, I can make it...right. I woke up the other day and I realized I just turned 38 years old...fuck I'm old. I celebrated by smoking weed, with my homies...what's left of them. A few years back I tried to get a real job but they all told me I had no work history so they did not get me.. and others told me they would give me a chance but that I had to pull my pants up and look presentable, and cut my hair...shit I aint cutting my hair. Shit my life has sucked ... now if you don't mind I got to buy me a forty and drink so I can forget about my shitty life...

    Education is the key to getting out but most don't want to put the work in and other circumstances compound that pursuit. One more problem is that everybody wants immediate gratification instead of working towards a goal to move up and out of these conditions.

      Nah man. It’s way deeper than that. It’s a mentality. When you’re told over and over again you can’t do something and you can only do something else, and the only life you’ll ever live is what you see around you, what’s the likelihood you’re gonna become anything else than what they expect? That’s not an excuse that’s reality. What’s gratifying about getting shot at? That ain’t fun. It’s what’s known. What we need is more people telling and showing a better way.

      Point of the fact is, 20% of what he said was correct. Just because there in some important facts here and there doesn't mean shit. What he has said and how he "thinks" he needs to approach it are 2 diff things. If he knew SO much, why is he still in the hood with his bro's? He reminds me of a black Charles Mansion. Spits out interesting lines but cant do shit to actually make a difference in his life or others.

      There was a reason why you defended him verbally, but, deep down, its subliminal. If it didnt matter to you, you would not have responded, so, it matters for a reason. I could only image the reason, which in this case is negated by his position. Cut and dry for YOU, but, for the open minded, quite clear.

    My brother at the end was a bit off the mark. In order for those little girls to have positive men to gravitate towards in maturity there should be little boys raised by real men also. Father is equally important to both genders positive growth. I hear where he's coming from but many young knuckle heads "grabbin them toolz" as he said lack a positive Man in their lives. ..my 2cents worth.

    Yes, real "knowledge" uve got there, damn right... knowledge of rather surviving by selling drugs and buying gold teeth than rather getting out this dope ghetto prison and look to start new life somewhere else. Instead of that they keep on playing same old song and not changing a damn thing. After some time they dont know nothing else and pass this "knowledge" over to their children and things stay same like before. This is real tragedy of how things really became and I have no respect to that!

    My apologies I was half asleep or that's the best excuse I can think of at the moment. To be honest, even though I made the "consensus" comment, I reverted back to the notion that more were in prison. However, that aside this stat isn't praise worthy, at best, it's a dubious honor & if trends predict the future the notion will be made reality.
    Not to mention, that was '05 stats. I wonder how '12 stats fared in comparison. I imagine, being a slight misanthrope, that the prison #'s increased.

  • @Anonyminded

    Exactly! Because this problem of so called ghettos is perpetuated and not being really solved there r families doing to kinds what they parents did to them. Those so called gangsters have families and most of them r doing the same mistake their fathers did. No role model no backbone ideology in the family. One father showed in one of these clips is the real hero,saying that his daughter needs to go to school and bring As marks.U can see he wants best for her and he cares.This is what is missing.

    To further dispel the rumor ...it's actually a comparison of apples to oranges. A fair comparison would be to only compare black males of typical college age (18-24) in college to black males of the same age range in prison. If you do that it is more like 4 to 1. There are FOUR times as many black males in college as in prison.
    WHY compare a group of males aged 18-24 (college students) to a group of males aged 16 - 80 (prison inmates) ...unless you have an agenda)

    Compared to the way in which they live, the 'hood where I grew up is akin to an upper middle class suburb. I lived in projects in Cincinnati Ohio during the '80s and '90s when the crack epidemic was full steam ahead, but over all we didn't have a barrage of murders, robberies or break-ins. I've witnessed and been apart of plenty of fights tho but my overall experience wasn't traumatic. I actually have more goods memories than bad and I have my mom to thank for that, she made sure my siblings and I had access to activities outside the hood.
    Every summer was spent alternating between museums, aquariums, zoo, libraries etc. We were exposed to other cultures and experiences beyond the realm of our comfort. Along with other family members they made a concerted effort to expose and impress upon us the realities of life beyond our 5 mile world.

    It really sucks for some of these guys. Half the time they are honest good people just looking to make a living. The other half...lol. The guy that sells drinks, look to the right of the screen, with all the trees. I used to live there, it was a trailer park-type place. Later we moved 10 blocks facing the guy they are interviewing's direction. Look, i grew up around here, i have always been around that black community, though i am not black, looking back, man, i could have been influenced very easily by my surroundings. But fuck, i live in Orlando, studying to be an engineer. Although i do see how they are kept down TO AN EXTENT, come on now, my friend lived a block away, hung out with pure garbage, but is starting his accounting bs degree. Being a product of your environment and being held back by others are two different things.

    In a society that is immoral, the children will grow up to be unethical. This small community has its ethical young people and its unethical young people (although this documentary doesn't show the ethical) and some of the unethical of course have a certain amount of ethics as they do what they believe is necessary to financially support their children.

    Something that the edumacated pontificater failed to mention. Who does govt pay 35,000$ per year in tax money to? Government employees such as public defenders, prosecutors, judges, guards, counselors, doctors, nurses, administrators, construction workers, educators, imams, priests, clerks, electrical, insurance, wholesale foods. So your insinuation that somewhere dr. whitey is getting rich off you is just not reality.
    Also how the hell did Obama who smoked weed and snorted the yeyo in his teens get to be president? He hustled within the system, since any black who applies to college , thanks to affirmative action, will get accepted unless he a drooling idiot, and will get a full scholarship just to meet the quota.
    The thing is, you 15, you see some white guy driving a top mercedes and without learning what that white dood did to get that mercedes, without knowing how many times he had to say no when his boys asked him to come out and party before exams, ...
    basically how many times that white guy said no to having fun today so that a decade or two later he can have fun driving that expensive car that was financed through him having a plan, and sticking to it, while ignoring temptation every single day till he made it.

    • @finisher3x
      @finisher3x 10 лет назад +2

      What if the white guy sold meth and ecstacy to get that drop top mercedes? Or ran a ponzi scheme to rob people out of tens of millions of dollars?

    • @SelfStirringPot-com
      @SelfStirringPot-com 10 лет назад +1

      finisher3x and maybe another white guy polluted a lake to get rich. Yeh, maybe. But why focus on the 1% of drivers who got their car by breaking laws, when you can focus on the 99% who worked hard.
      Also meth or crack or weed harm nobody but the user and should be legal anyhow, and given for free so nobody would need to rob for a hit.

    • @stark4614
      @stark4614 10 лет назад +1

      Self Stirring Pot If it was close to 99% of upper middle class and rich people who got their money through hard legal work then most poor minorities wouldn't talk shit. However, as recently as Dick Cheney and Haliburton has proven, it's nowhere near that many rich people who got rich by doing the right thing.

    • @SelfStirringPot-com
      @SelfStirringPot-com 10 лет назад

      ***** Doing the right thing? That depends. Did the Aztecs do the right thing by sacrificing scared children by ripping out their beating hearts or did Cortez do right by exterminating the entire Aztec civilization?
      Did white man do the right thing by doubling life expectancy in Africa from 29 to 58 but keeping them as slaves for centuries? Only liberals think they can answer such questions.

    It's such a sad case that here in SoFla, mainly, Spanish has become a second language that WE have to know in order to work. What has this country come to? We, America, the land of the free is unfortunately almost too free, it hurts us. We have changed our laws to cater to immigrants, other ppl seeking our "freedoms" to advance & succeed yet our OWN ppl in our OWN backyard are suffering. A man should not be denied work bc he can't speak a foreign language. Castro won't change Cuba's laws for us.

    Iam glad for your comment, maybe if I would say it openly I might get a punch in the nose, but it wouldnt be the first one ;) I like u said it as a black man, but to me u said it as a person. There is no black, white, yellow man there is only a person or opposite... we all share common problems and mistakes, this is where we need to relate more and find a compassion. The worst what can happen to us is to let someone alone and not taken care of. People have to care, because there is nobody else..

    Belief is everything. And not just as a philosophy but as a tool to get rewarded. Many families and parents r rewarding. Everybody wants to be rewarded and kids has to get that. If these guys parents were doing the right thing and put more attention to them maybe they would not end up here. But sometimes even the best parent cannot help. In the end its all about u and in what belief u stand for but parents give u that platform to start so u can choose. Thats all these folks need to get!

  • @Anonyminded
    @Anonyminded 11 лет назад

    Sometimes its better to start with nothing than keep on going with shit u know. It might be too late when u realize u already got used to it. I dont know your ghettos or tragedy u talking about, but I know poorer places than yours and many people made it out because they believed they can be better people somewhere else. Nobody is saying u must stay where u were born. U can do anything if u have a dream and work hard for it! I would say u folks r missing real belief more than anything else!
