      Yea, it's just a bad experience, there was a time at a pawn shop I found some pretty valuable 3ds games. There were no prices on their games and the guy at the counter didn't even know how to look up prices right so i sat there for like 20 minutes only for them to quote the higher sold listings of the games. It's just annoying as hell, wastes the customers time and will mostly just end up in people walking away.

    I think it's a bad policy for a store to manually look up each price before a sale. I certainly can understand why they do, the prices on games jump around A LOT. But it rubs customers the wrong way. Its just not what they expect or are used to. You wanna browse the store and see the prices and then talk about the ones that could make sense for you. Not watch them do inventory. You're sending the message "doing business with me isn't gonna easy. Let alone fun"

      @@TupacShakur69 It's so funny that people don't realize the reason why this is happening is because of flippers like this dude. Video game prices are way to volatile right now it would be stupid to not look up every single game you're trying to sell. It takes 5 seconds per game and could cost the store 10's to 100s of dollars depending on the market.

    • @aln2419
      @aln2419 2 года назад

      @@seemlesslies I’ve seen other people also say reseller “caused this” and made stores start looking up prices to avoid losses but I still don’t understand how. If resellers are making the market more volatile how could stores lose money if they don’t look up prices before a sale? Even if they sold it for lower than market price they would still be making money if they sold it for more than they got. Yes they wouldn’t be making the highest amount possible off the sale but they wouldn’t actually be losing anything. Or am I missing something here?

    • @seemlesslies
      @seemlesslies 2 года назад

      @@aln2419 Because that's just not how business works. Also people are MUCH more sensitive to losing money than they are to gaining it. For instance if you think you sold someone for a fair price today, but found out a day or two later it was worth double it sits really poorly.
      I think you're under the impression that these gaming companies are your friend and want to give you good deals. They are businesses (most of them honestly struggling to keep above water), and they have realized these assholes will come into their store with a smile on their face and rip them off and then go post videos online and you expect these store owners to just be like ehhhh it was only 20 dollars.......

    • @aln2419
      @aln2419 2 года назад

      @@seemlesslies yes I know that how businesses work(apparently better than you) but to claim someone is getting ripped of or that they are losing money if false. If I bought a stock from someone and it goes up in price did I rip someone off? Did they lose any money? You can say you dislike what they are doing but you can’t say the the store is losing money from in or they’re getting ripped off. them making the market more volatile actually makes it possible for these stores to make more money. If a store sells a product under value no one has ripped them off and they haven’t lost a cent if they made more than what they bought it for. All I expect is for stores to be smart enough to price their products correctly instead of searching it up when you get there. Obviously it’s their right to do business how they want but most consumers don’t like these type of business practices.

      That's odd, I thought the department of weights and measures rule was that a product MUST be sold for the price stated on it. I have used this rule to get a sphero r2d2 from kohl's for 50.00 acouple years ago, as well as items from target and frys Electronics. Kohls had stated the price to me over the phone and held it for me, I had to request a store manager to get it. On target it was for a Air cleaner and they had the wrong price on the end cap and on the box, upon checkout they said it was 300.00, but I asked for a manager and had taken a pic to show him which helped because they'd sent someone to check and he lied about the price and changed it but he didn't know it had the pic. Frys electronic were Jenks and didn't want to sell a 10.00 camera stand for like 7.00, the manager blew me off, I wrote a email to the store manager and also the az dept of weights n measures who faulted frys for shenanigans having items on a end cap or sticker but selling for more. This was all like 8 years ago but I can't imagine it's changed much.

    10,000% agree with your frustration on the pawn shop looking up all their prices. Like you said, it's their right to do that. However, I can almost guarantee that they did not do that when they bought in the games from whoever sold them to the pawn shop. If you're going to charge full price for things (and basically be a game store), you better be competitive when you buy games in, and you better have a money-back guarantee that everything you sell is tested, working, and authentic. Otherwise, I will not support you by buying anything from you, knowing that you most likely paid pennies for it and are selling things as-is. That is just... unethical behavior, in my opinion.

    my number one suggestion has to be Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. Not one that you can get a full feel for just by playing 30 mins. The mindfucks barely start by then. But it's a game where if you leave it paused to long it starts playing tricks on you. Going black screen to think your TV shut off. Playing a cinematic of your character being attacked making you think that it unpaused somehow. I think there's one point where if you leave it paused too long the screen starts Dripping blood. Those are just the pause screen features to mess with you head. On top of that I thought the story was above par. The atmosphere of creepiness holds throughout majority of the game.

      Even not from a reseller's perspective it is annoying as a customer if you see a lot of games you want and then they have to one by one search them for price, It also doesn't really make sense since if you are a collector you still want deals or else you would be spending your money on ebay since it is more convenient than going to a pawn shop.

There's a place not far from me that has a really nice selection of stuff but I seldom go there specifically because I know every game is just getting looked up. I dont mind paying a fair price it just feels like a tremendous waste of time and a bad retail experience.

  • @dexrexauraus
    @dexrexauraus 2 года назад +25

    The “store looking up prices” issue is always kinda hypocritical of resell channels. If someone sells at fair value, it’s always “WHY DON’T THEY SELL ONLINE THEMSELVES”. But if they sell ridiculous cheap, it’s always “HAHA THEY DIDN’T KNOW THE VALUE AND NOW I CAN MAKE $$$$”. Like the pawn shops have a store they pay rent and employees just like a reseller has their own fees/costs. If you don’t like it, don’t buy anything geez. Not all stores are built for reselling. Sometimes as a collector, you can still get deals by saving on delivery and seeing the condition right away. I think Phoenix did well. Buying a game and moving on. Let stores run their business however they want and the customers will decide if they survive.

    Pawn shops, even some game stores now, not pricing their games because they're too lazy to price update and want to maximize profit is the WORST THING POSSIBLE. They want to make ALL the money with NONE of the work at the expense of the customer's experience. They want to price at market? COOL. Then price at market but that whole "we'll look them up at the counter" is SHITTY AF. I even saw a game store in Florida that priced games but had signs up that they're going to relook them up at the counter to adjust for market value.....THEN WHY ARE YOU PRICING?!?!?

      I think a pawn shop should have eBay/Amazon policy if they wanna price the same. Amazon delivers it to your door and gives a 30 day free return policy for any reason.
      So shipping, game quality (selling games in mint condition) and return protection is all baked into the price.
      So if a pawn shop looked up prices and marked everything 30% less then eBay that would likely be a more accurate price of the actual value of that game.

    Sonic Adventure DX is one of my top ten favorite games of all time. Love the different gameplay styles each character selection offers, and to me at least, the story is great. Regarding the pricing issues, there's a reason you are suppose to look up the price of the game then put it on the shelf. Buyers will feel cheated if you have constantly fluxuating pricing that moves with the market at a moment's notice. You will kill a business by doing that. Look for the profit margins that you are willing to maintain before putting it out on the shelves. If you wish to do inventory, do it when no one is in the store. Even more so when you are a thrift store. You have to realize that most of your buyer pool are second hand sellers themselves. You won't be able to sell yourself if you price at full market value.

    Nice pick ups. I remember playing the demo for Sonic Adventures on the Dreamcast lots of fun there. I still say if you haven't gotten Luigi's Mansion get in that collection. And places pricing close to online or above I say knowledge is power. In this climate of uncertainty sometimes if you feel you need to maximize it, otherwise to sell for less so move that inventory.

    I disagree on your thoughts of them taking out a game and then looking up the price. This counters them from being rip offed. Exactly who you ripped off with those people at that sale with the Pikachu 3DS XL for 40. That was scummy of you and could have given more than that. So in my opinion they can look up the value before giving you the price. Retail or not. Resellers these days are becoming more of jobs and there are people putting an end to it. So don’t be too surprised if you see this happening. Love your vids.

    I have a semi-local retro reseller shop around that does the pricing at the end by looking it up. However he's very straightforward with you and will look up the prices with you. Once he sees the average selling cost of whatever item in whatever condition, he will then knock some money off that price (usually 10-15%) and throws bundle deals/discounts left and right. The process is a little annoying, but I do enjoy knowing he's not over or under selling an item. It can cause some delays when there's numerous people in there, but you can tell he just wants to make sure everyone is happy with the pricing.
    I walked out of there with Pikmin 1&2 for GC, Doom long box and Final Doom for PS1, Doom 64, and a few other smaller games I don't remember all in really great CIB condition for under $140 and he threw in this cool Doom tin lunchbox since I'm a Doom nerd. Additionally because it's a 45 minute drive to his store he always tosses in freebies, discounts, etc. just for making the drive and supporting his business.
