  • Masterpiece of craftsmanship: the restoration of an antique fruit press
    "Hey, friends! Today, I want to share a very special project with you. Some time ago, I stumbled upon this incredible 120-year-old fruit press on eBay for just €30. It dates back to the year 1900 and was in quite a sorry state, covered in rust. But I knew I could breathe new life into this historic machine.
    My first step was carefully disassembling the entire press. Then, I sandblasted all the parts to remove the rust. I used cold-pressed rapeseed oil to season the interior components of the fruit press, including the screw and the container. This process required a temperature of 230 degrees Celsius, and I repeated it a total of five times.
    I applied food-safe powder coating to the exterior of the fruit press to ensure it not only looks good but is also safe for use. Unfortunately, the old sieve was severely damaged, so I crafted a new one from copper sheet. I created the design on the computer, printed it out, and adhered it to the copper sheet to accurately cut it out. In total, I had to drill 722 holes into the new sieve, a painstaking task!
    Once the holes were drilled and the shape was cut out, I bent the sheet into a cone shape, using a wooden cone I had prepared earlier. Then, I soldered the sieve together and meticulously sanded the surface with fine sandpaper to make it perfectly smooth. The new sieve looks fantastic now!
    But that wasn't all. I also sanded all the screws and nickel-plated them to prevent rusting. I sanded the old wooden handle on my lathe and carefully oiled it. To secure the wooden handle, I even manufactured a custom screw on the lathe.
    Finally, came the exciting moment of reassembling the fruit press. And the result? It's simply breathtaking! The machine shines like new and works flawlessly. I can't wait to try it out and make fresh fruit juices.
    That was my exciting adventure in restoring this 120-year-old fruit press. I hope you enjoyed this journey through time, and if you want to see more projects like this, please subscribe to my channel and leave a like. Thank you for watching, and until next time!"

    I hope you enjoyed the video. Here is a brief mention of the project. The powder coating is especially suitable for food. All metal parts were nickel-plated. This means no rust can occur. The sieve was made of copper.

    • @DanielJoyce
      @DanielJoyce 9 месяцев назад

      Should have tinned the copper else it will corrode and make acid fruits taste bad and possibly lead to copper poisoning. There is a reason copper cookware is tinned.

    You need to Nickel Plate the copper cone. Copper will react with acid in fruit and corrode, Nickel will not.
    Only Stainless Steel and Nickel are rated food safe in addition to seasoned cast iron.

      @@MWRestoration Danke für deine Antwort. Dafür hast du ja den Schriftzug silbern lackiert. Das sieht edel aus und passt gut zu dem Blau. Oft werden die Kontraste zu stark gewählt, etwa: Objekt schwarz, Schriftzug weiß oder so. Das zerstört die Optik. Bei der vielen Mühe einer Restauration sollten auch stimmige und schöne Farben- und kombinationen das Objekt krönen, wie bei dir. Grüße aus Hannover.

    Softsoldering the copper mesh....with sour/ acid based fruit juice. I hope the soldering was lead free. In other case, you will recive your daily dose of lead, everytime you make a juice.
    Fix that with a hart soldring / welding, with silver welding. They come in strings. Or just bent the copper mesh together. And hammer it into old size. Sort of flaten it out. And yes, if it is lead free, then you are good to go. 🎉 taa daa!
