I used to ride over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel on Friday afternoons when I would go home to Newark, Delaware on weekend liberty from my first ship in the Navy, the USS Seattle AOE-3 which was homeported in Norfolk from October 20,1972 to July 31,1974. Sunday nights/Monday mornings after midnight returning to Norfolk ei5her in a carpool with a few sailors like myself that were going to the Philadelphia or New York City area or many time on he Friday Greyhound servicemen’s express that was going to Philadelphia or New York & the same on Sundaynights/Monday mornings. The ride was always my favorite part of the trip & when I would get very close to New Castle, Delaware where the Greyhound & Trailways buses stopped at Clemente’s on U.S.13/U.S.40/U.S.301-The DuPont Highway.

Thanks for sharing your story. Quite interesting!
Thank you for your service bravery and sacrifice. I think my father was stationed in Norfolk during the Korean War before going overseas.
Drove down with my parents along 13 from NYC to their 2nd house in Swansboro NC
