I was only aware of Baukindergeld which is paid yearly by government if you have children and you own a residence. This amount is a bit higher to Wohnriester you explained. Is it also possible to apply for both?

You need to start with this Wohnriester plan and after reaching some minimum threshold amount only you can use this money. There is no criteria like we need to apply for this plan before concluding on an apartment. You are free to decide when you need this. But the only restriction is, you can use this money only for construction purposes. Eg: if you own an apartment and then you started this Wohnriester plan, then you can use this money for renovation of your apartment. I am not sure whether we can use both together. This I need to check or will ask someone and get back to you.
