    Here we see a rescue dog, a former Greek hunting dog imported into the U.K. as so many are.
    What you have to understand with dogs like this, is that they were bred for a specific purpose - to hunt - to identify, chase (and often immobilise or kill) prey.
    If you are not prepared to accept this reality and are looking for a cosy fireside companion, neither a former hunting European import nor a hunting breed with a strong work ethic is right for you.
    This video gives a beautiful example of what can be achieved by a responsible dog owner, using the right approach to train such a dog and create a mutually enjoyable, safe and responsible life for one another AND other animals!

    Everytime my dog is on leash and they see a rabbit they know to stay by me but they cannot take their eyes off the rabbit, I will give them a little knee and their eyes are on the rabbit so intensely, I had one of my dogs off leash one time and a rabbit was further ahead and I told her to come back and she just bolted off towards it in the woods, not listening to anything I was saying, I was standing there for 5 minutes calling her thinking she wouldn't come back till she finally did, even after that everytime they see a rabbit they will not listen to me no matter if I use treats or punishment Nothing Works and there's hardly any videos demonstrating how to get this to stop.

      I have the same issue with my rescue galgo who was used to hunt rabbits here in Mallorca. Except he's gone for an hour😭and all I can do is watch him via GPS and pray... It's that, or he's stuck on a leash for the rest of his life? There's got to be a solution.

    Thank you, I always enjoy your videos. Those who believe e collars are cruel know nothing about them. I’ve seen SO many useless, ineffective ‘dog training’ videos, it makes me want to barf. One had a ‘trainer’ dragging an extremely cat aggressive German Shepherd back and forth past a terrified cat in a cage to ‘teach the dog to leave the cat alone’. Ridiculous, and cruel for the cat. And the second that no one is looking, that cat is history. My 185 lb. Boerboel was becoming increasingly aggressive towards my horses and killed a barn cat that he had been friendly with. Dogs are predatory, and that behavior is extremely satisfying to them. The deterrent has to be equally as unsatisfying. Clickers, reward based training, and (egads!) dog psychologists, will not make your animals safe. I used an e-collar (after testing it on myself). I only used the ‘shock’ feature ONE time-after that, the vibration mode was enough, and an instant ‘redirect’. On its highest level, the shock is no worse than a static electricity shock from a carpet (actually less of a shock than my electric fence). The dog learned unbelievably quickly to leave the horses and cats alone. I don’t leave my dog alone with the horses or cats, but when they are together, he ignores them, which becomes habit. If they ever somehow ended up together when I wasn’t around, there won’t be a guaranteed blood bath. Used properly, an e-collar is an extremely safe, sane method, and can mean the difference between life and death. I’ve never used any type of fear or ‘dominance’ type training (lol, that wouldn’t work with Boerboels, they fear nothing, and they KNOW they are bigger and stronger than you).

      I have been having to use an e collar to prevent my dog from chasing my horse and barking and lunging at his legs. Why? Because my horse (rightfully) kicked my dog and he STILL didn’t learn. Had I not gotten the e collar, the horse would have happily provided a deterrent for the dog that could have been fatal for him.
      Lesser of two evils as they say.
      Also, I tested the e collar on my own neck long before letting it touch my dog. It DOES NOT HURT.

    My son's dog which is a mix between Pitbull and Weimaraner just killed two deer today after breaking off leash on a walk with my husband. Their necks look like they were cut with knives. This dog seems to be just a natural killer around wild animals but he's great with our dogs cats and especially good with people. I hope there's something we can do

      Thank you for saying this, I have been asking the same question, step by step from the beginning of the walk to the chase of the deer. When do you push the button at what point? A look, a movement, when the dog takes off,, when etc etc etc ?

    I simply don't know where to expose my dog to at least a sheep... but yes, exactly the same triggers = deer. He even managed to catch one, after that I am afraid to go into nature with him. As walking the dog on leash in nature is completely useless. Any advice (I approached numerous trainers but noone is doing this)

    I've recently taken on a stray lurcher abandoned by gypsies and used for hare coursing. Wasn't looking for another dog but she wandered up the road in a right state and couldn't see her go to a rescue centre. Her reactivity to prey (deer, rabbit, pigeon, squirrel, blue tit! and possibly other dogs) is probably two or three times worse than your first video. Recall with no prey around on a long lead or enclosed field is very good, although not to heel as well as this chap in the second video.
    This does look very impressive but I would make one devils advocate comment, that the deer weren't moving so perhaps not seen as prey. Still good what can be done and the fact the guy has the dog of lead speaks volumes. Be interested to know what advice you gave to him or any online links as I'm a long way from your training school.
    Used an e-collar with my much missed Lab after going to a course run by a Martin Deeley about 10 years ago as he went whistle deaf! Only needed a quick ping to look at me and then followed hand signals, but not really used since and never for difficult recall dogs.
    Thanks

    I own a husky male in my farm its almost 16 months old I really dont like its behavior its almost always want to run after sheeps and sheeps are scared of it so they run like crazy can I fix its behavior or its no use so I have to get another good dog..?

    • @Spr1ggan87

      Why didn't you research Huskies before bringing one on to a farm? They have a gnarly prey drive. You might as well have invited a wolf, coyote, or fox in amongst the livestock.
      I mean dude they're even known to at times treat dogs smaller than them as prey animals.

    People should stop getting stray dogs! Don't get a fucking dog from another country. Buy a fucking dog with papers! A properly bred dog! Get a dog and raise it from puppy! And commit to it!

      Ok, I have a purebred dog, loads of training, still can’t stop the prey drive - what now?

    • @shaneomac5074
      @shaneomac5074 Год назад

      Or you could adopt a dog and save a life, dog breeding just leads to more dogs getting euthanized, dog breeding should be illegal in the US, every animal shelter here is full and they’re all putting down dogs everyday that people just got tired of and didn’t want anymore, it’s demoralizing

    • @hazmania4794
      @hazmania4794 Год назад

      @@shaneomac5074 Actually, the opposite is true. ONLY ethical, licensed dog breeders should be permitted to breed and sell dogs. People who have to pay $1,000+ are far more likely to be committed to raising and training a dog, and not so quick to dump it due to ‘inconvenience. They are also more likely to be able to afford quality food and healthcare. The fantasy of ‘saving a life’ by adopting a shelter animal, frequently does not have a happy ending. The majority of shelter dogs are pit bulls/pit Bull mixes, that were never properly trained or socialized. Shelters often try to get around the pit Bull bias by labeling dogs as ‘lab mixes. Pit bulls aside, while we are inundated with all the ‘happily ever after’ success stories of animals adopted from shelters, the stories of people who are attacked by their adult rescues are not as widely publicized.
      The myth of ‘saving a life by adopting’ is exactly that: a myth, that perpetuates the system it is trying to ‘fix’. It’s easy for anyone to impulsively take home a ‘free’ or inexpensive puppy, not bother to train it, then dump it when it becomes inconvenient or aggressive. It’s easy for them to delude themselves that their untrained, unhousebroken, or elderly dog will be adopted by the perfect family, and live happily on a farm. Look at all the free puppies on Craigslist. Listing them as ‘free to a good home only’ wards off sadistic psychopaths, and those seeking profit by selling ‘free’ puppies as bait dogs, and to labs.
      Unfortunately, That fantasy, and indiscriminate breeding, is the reason why shelters are overflowing with unfortunate animals, most of whom will never have a happy ending. Anyone that wants a puppy should do their research, and purchase a dog breed that suits their experience and life style, from a reputable breeder. Cheers!

    • @AthelstanEngland
      @AthelstanEngland 4 месяца назад

      I disagree strongly, the Kennel Club is causing all sorts of issues with the strict breeding protocols for looks rather than temperaments. Had both but I've rescued dogs which is far more rewarding than paying for another pup. Too many greedy breeders, and that includes KC ones not just the puppy farms, are causing an huge surplus of dogs. And the ridiculous lockdown with people getting dogs with zero thought means rescues are overflowing.
