The fight in Samurai Champloo in the Bamboo forest is actually inspired by the 1993 film Ninja Scroll which has a similar fight, but does involve a blind swordsman.
Ohhhh shit! Samurai Shamploo has one of the best OP and Ending songs in anime. This hit when I was kid after watching Inyuasha or Detective Conan. Also fun fact: The creator of the show for Boondocks really loved anime so they got their into music from Cowboy Beatbot and Samurai Shamploo
yeah Suraj, Chris and Rana are like smartest among the group same with Navi as well. I would only trust those 4 to watch anime like Beastars, Violent Evergarden, Gundam, Psycho Pass etc.. and understand it and discuss it.
Fun fact: The actors who voiced Mugen and Jin also voiced Zabuza and Kisame (2 of the 7 Swordsmen) from the Narutoverse. Steve Blum also voiced Orochimaru too.
100% it's like the third piece of the trilogy and too many people sleep on it. Carole & Tuesday is a banger too- Thundercat & Denzel Curry play characters and also contribute music.
fun fact: the soundtrack was helped created by a Japanese dj who went by Nujabes. who essentially help create a new genre of hip hop, Lofi. sadly he passed away in a car crash in 2010.
If you dont know during the Samurai time Ryukyu, which is lovely plqce that has been harmed by mainland japan culturally and spiritually for centuries, lt was the same as Britains Australia a prison colony. So when he told the guy he didnt give a crap, hes from Ryukyu, he admitted to being from OBLOCK Chicago. The ghetto of ghettos, so everyone knew it was throw down or be thrown down after that
The amazing Samurai Champloo is one of my favorite animes. You guys are in for something special. Amazing choreography, great animation, chilIed hiphop, comedy and solid storytelling. I hope yall enjoy it
YEEES!!! the Journey begins... Can't wait to see it with yall ... The soundtrack of this anime is a GEM! Both OP and ED are top tier in anime history and the song "no vagrancy" of the fight of Jin and the other samurai is one of my favorites
The big thing about knights and samurai are that both of them were just "people who fought professionally" until *after* people stopped fighting constant wars all the time. Then the people in charge suddenly had a bunch of people whose sole marketable skill was to murder other people. Neither group was especially honorable, but once their only targets were their own civilians suddenly people in high positions decided that being a knight/samurai was all about honor and being civilized and not murdering all the peasants. This is also part of why knights and samurai are both associated heavily with their backup weapons (one-handed swords and katana respectively) despite the fact that they'd rarely use those weapons on the battlefield: those are the weapons the common folk saw them walking around with in times of peace since polearms and heavier weapons and armor aren't something you walk around town in. It'd be like thinking a modern soldier's primary weapon is a handgun because that's what they carry in their civvies instead of a rifle. Also the ronin version of a knight would be what's called a knight errant.
I'm 50 and have been watching anime since 1980. This is my all time favorite show. And yes i love, Full metal brotherhood, death note. DBZ, One piece, etc etc etc. But this was it for me
WOOOT! So glad you started this series! A personal favorite...looking forward to revisiting this with you. I'm confident that this is gonna be a hit with all'y'all. With Mugen...coming from Ryukyu is the same is announcing that you are lawless pirate. He is epitome of undisciplined self interest and wildness...he has no fear of death...and that makes him as deadly as someone more skilled and disciplined. Jin isn't really ronin...he is a disgraced dojo student that has broken with his teacher and dojo after years of perfecting his style. He may be a realist when it comes to survival, but he is intensely honorable, profoundly disciplined, and the perfect opposite of Mugen. Between is Fuu, naive, gentle, playful, and kind. Fire, Water and Earth...as mentioned in the opening song...Mugen, Jin and Fuu...the elements compose a magnum opus.
Samurai Champloo: one of Shinichiro Watanabe's other projects animated by Studio Manglobe. it's up there as one of the best timeless classics with the story, music, characters & animation. unfortunately, while the studio worked on some noteworthy stuff (Deadman Wonderland, Michiko & Hatchin, Gangsta) they filed for bankruptcy about 9 years ago (September 29th, 2015).
When life hands you lemons you don't forget the lemonade But "when you're math is off for dumplings, looking back in philosophy from three different perspectives becomes well worth it..." 😮
Hopefully this sets the trend where everyone reacts to these bangers, Champloo, Kenshin, Samurai X, Bebop, Basilisk. These shows needs to be seen at least once, they are too good for people to not have seen them! Also, how was this even posted without me being notified wtf youtube!
I absolutely love this show!!!!! The theme song is such a vibe that made me love chill hop and this show doesn't really go real crazy but just enough to be amazing but not boring
Interesting fact is that Samurai being about honor only became a thing later. They were not always bound by that. The period ghost of tsushima is in they would not give a fck about doing things only with honor.
The comparison with knights is interesting and apt because they are also seen as honourable servants to a landowner in a feudal society, which maps on to the function of samurai pretty well, but also they were often nasty pieces of work who would bully peasants and other poor tax payers. Which is a contradiction with the general idea of honour. Of course their honour was not quite moral.
I recalled from Avatar The Last Airbender episode Jet the fight sequence between Aang and Jet were inspired by Samurai Champloo along with Naruto 😄; and Chris dope shirt!
It was written for the show. Watanabe is a huge music afficianado and hired some of his favorite artists to write music for the Champloo. He would later hire Denzel Curry to contribute music to Carole & Tuesday as well 🔥
Ah yes *sipsdrink* fine anime Also fresh forged katanas used to be tested by stacking prisoners condemned to death on top of one another and seeing how many you can cut through in one swipe, this number would later be etched into the sword as a mark of quality ie: 3-body sword,4-body sword etc.
The guy who's about to execute in ep 1 them sounds familiar because the voice actor played Jet Black in Cowboy Bebop. If I'm not wrong. And the honey pot woman in ep 2 voiced Faye Valentine. Mugen ofc is played by Spike's VA as Chris said.
AHHHHHHHHH! NEW SHOW! NEW SHOW! How excited are you guys for this???
About this much 🫸 🫷
I've been waiting for years lol

You guys have no idea, samurai champloo is one of my top personal favourite
*Fun Fact:* The creator of the Boondocks even said that the fight scenes in the show were inspired from Samurai Champloo
Yeah there is a background character model after Jin, and the kickball episode is an homage to the Baseball episode
Any clue where I can find that background character? Hahaha@@oni4883
