This hit home. Great talk! My 3 year son the other day says to me (I’m a stay at home mom), “Mommy, Dad is good at fixing things. What are you good at? Your phone?”
That did it. I’ve been piling up more and more reasons to get rid of my smart phone. But that right there… completed the list. How sad, but I’m so grateful for his wisdom. It’s time to join the “dumb phone” gang.

I came across your "Now that I'm a mother" RUclips channel and then found this channel. I have been listening daily after I put all of my children in bed while I'm folding laundry/cleaning around the house. I have felt very convicted over giving my family planning over to God since hearing how you two trust in His timing. I never comment or listen to anyone on RUclips but randomly finding the page from pure coincidence is truly remarkable. I took it even a step further a few years ago and got rid of a cellphone entirely. I just use a home phone and its even more freeing. I absolutely love not owning a cellphone of any kind. We also don't do TV at all unless I'm under the weather or morning sickness from pregnancy. Otherwise the TV we do have is disconnected hidden under a blanket in our master bedroom. I am so happy and thankful to have found your RUclips channel I feel very relatable with. I am 26 years old with 5 kids under 7 and its very rare where I live to be such a young mom with so many blessings of young children here in Southern California. Anyways thank you for taking the time to do this RUclips channel, I'm so thankful to have found it.

I love how you both think critically about what is right for your family and then follow your convictions even if it's strange to other people! I deleted Instagram while listening to Katy talk about it. I'm not ready to ditch the whole phone yet but I'm definitely going to start limiting it.

Looking at things through the lens of what is right for your family in THIS season is a great method of systemizing your life.

It good that you realize now how precious the years are when your children are young. You will never regret making them, your children, a priority.

Love this! I got rid of my smartphone a couple years ago now too. Always love to hear people's different and similar reasons for their decision!

This podcast made me so happy ! Loved heard your perspectives on this. Have been seriously considering getting rid of my smartphone. I'm wondering, did you keep your smartphone just for all the information you have on it? or did you like sell it, or give it back to your carrier type thing?

For anyone that wants to keep their smartphone, but hates the fact that apps and Google has so much access to you and your information, you can go into your settings on your phone and disable certain permissions. I had to do that with my Google account too. You can make your account so disabled that you don't allow google or any apps to access your personal info (or camera! Dont use siri!). obviously some apps need certain permissions to work properly but you can at least disable some things. It's in Google account settings, your email settings, and phone settings. In your phone settings, go to permissions and it will list the apps you have and you should be able to disable some permissions there.
Also, don't accept cookies on websites. Every website has them now. Most websites will give you the option to click on "preferences" when the cookies notice pops up and you can disable marketing and sale of personal info there... Most of the time. I avoid websites that don't give me that option to disable sale of my personal info. Hope that helps!

I'm in my 40's and still holding out on NOT getting a phone. My husband has one so if we're out and I need to get a hold of someone, I just use his. But I love the freedom of being disconnected. My teenagers laugh at me still using mapquest to figure out directions before we leave the house.

I watched it on my smart tv lol I’m starting to treat my RUclips time as if I was sitting down in front of the tv and watching a show. Instead of watching it as I’m doing other things during the day and trying to multitask. The silence has been nice.

So excited for this! I mentioned it to Doug and he thought I was crazy, but I am lol. He kept asking what if I get lost if I'm out haha. Ok now I'm going to watch the podcast!:D

The Kroc center swimming times haha yes.. lol I have started printing out my favorite recipies and started a recipie binder, I also write down the seim times on my white board planner so i dont have to keep checking. I did a 72 hour digital detox and O took notes everyday of how my life was changing, I'm shocked im bavk on my phone again after seeing the results in my prductivity and my mood! I have a dumb phone, and a samsung smart phone so i can move the sim card into the dumb phone and keep the smart ohone turned off.. but yes the temtation is always there to go back to it, I know i need to get rid of my smart phone for good, our society really does make it hard, doctors and dentist offices want you to fill paper work out on our phones now, and sometimes hand me a tablet if I say I dont have one.. its really crazy. I do have a lot of the apps delted from my phone and I check them on my computer sometimes, but im no longer posting there, Instagram is the worst for me and most women, texting is really bad too though! Great episode!!

I’ve been really thinking about getting a flip phone… SO difficult to actually pull the trigger on doing it. Lord help us. My parents didn’t have cell phones till I was about 10 years old. I remember we had an answering machine in our home… A HOME phone 😮

This was such a great conversation. I'm a new subscriber who recently came across your videos. My family has been talking about going screen free for a while now and switching to flip phones. I might have missed it while listening to the conversation, but what flip phone are you using and liking that has the voice to text option?
    Thank you :)

So I think I missed it but do you do any Walmart orders, Amazon etc? Do you listen to podcast? But when you do simply use your laptop? Will you listen to podcasts during the day? I feel like podcasts are my biggest concern

Amazon is easy and definitely can be done on a computer

My husband and I want to do this… if we purchase the camera… do we just upload it it right to a desktop when the memory card gets full? I am really big in taking videos and pictures of my kids randomly and don’t want to loose that. 😢
