I've come to the conclusion that the basic shapes is all that's needed to create ANY sound. Unless you want to do a wavetable growl then that's a different story
@@isthiscash ... no? It's literally just that. Two saw oscillators and a lowpass filter with an envelope. About as simple as you can make it, there's no steps you can leave out here if you wanna make a pluck.
2 videos in and I've already learned a ton, made some cool sounds and fully realized why the word on the streets is Serum is the easiest synth to start learning sound design. Thanks for the knowledge
Wow, even though the recipe is pretty much the exact same recipe for any prog. pluck, the way serum produces the sounds is way different than what I've been hearing in sylenth. The same pizza, but with a different type of dough I guess.
Cool stuff you have, give me whole different understanding of sound design with serum. Plan was to learn about sound design in2021 and your tutorials is exactly what i needed. Keep up these. Ill defenetly buy your preset pack. Cool stuff
Hey Tom! I have been watching your tutorials on both Serum and Massive for a few months now, I have to say that your tutorials have taken my sound design to the next level! I have made my own little version of this pluck and am thinking about making a song out of it. I was wondering if there is a way where I can open up the cutoff using an envelope, either done outside of Serum or inside of it. I saw you do this manually in the beginning while showcasing the sound... I really want to implement this into my track and not sure how! Keep up the good work and hope you can be back posting tutorials soon! Thanks, Spencer
Great video. Finally I've found a tutorial that tells me 'how' to make the sound. Can you make a tutorial for Porter Robinson - Shelter? I really wanted to copy that synth sound but it is too hard to do it on my own.
0:32 how to do the arp thingy, with the repeating notes? :D Is that done in serum, or in the daw, with a separate plugin? of course I could do it by filling in the chords one by one. But I'm lazy hehe
great work! Any chance you could recreate the humm bass (it sounds like a humm :D first appears at 0:31 ) at skrillex & must die's track VIPs ? That bass is very interesting i think...
Hey SynthHacker, it would be cool if you could do a short preview of the sound right at the beginning.. I think that's what most people need to get an insight.
+Chen Boi Agreed. Kind of sad how many people treat this process. It's like asking an artist to teach you to sketch "using yellow paper and a blue pen please", because that's all you have. As if a black drawing on white paper would be impossible to transfer over yourself.
think you could do the bass in skrillex remix of gta - red lips? either in fm8 or serum i dont know how massive will work and i cant for my life figure it out been spending hours with both synths trying it all i know is that its fm. love the tutorials big up from sweden!
Has anyone else had issues with this tutorial? Has serum been updated somehow? This is extremely simple and I've gone through it 4 times now and the sound I'm getting isn't even close!
Hello synthhacker, i watch a lot of you videos and they have proved very helpful and i learnt many stuffs on serum. I have a noob question though that has been bothering me for a while and i wonder if you can help me. Is there a way to lower the attack level in any of serum envelopes? Compairing it to massive where you have a level knob for the attack part of any envelope. Thank you Keep posting gold.. Kind regards From Mauritius
Dude your videos are helpful , but Ive got 2 things to ask from you, if you can just play some chords while doing some changes so we would know what sounds are being made , and lastly if you can change "little bit" to like a figure or something when you are adjusting some of the values. Thanks bro, keep up.
Can I just say how great it is to play your videos at .5 speed and pretend you're shitfaced drunk. Awesome tutorials, but makes me laugh the whole way through. Good stuff
YOU just made my night! ahaha thats really funny. i stopped reading the comments after yours. laughed a little. then went up and replayed it back at .5 speed and instantly bursted out laughing!!!! haha thx
Thank you for the awesome vid! Also have a question you might be able to help with - using Logic, after making this patch and writing out the midi, Serum will refuse to play certain midi notes. Particularly the Emajor chord (second in progression)... I wrote the midi in 1/8th notes, with no space in between, but for some reason that one part in the progression would go silent, as if the midi wasn't triggering serum at all. I had to create a little space in between the notes for it to work, and it still sounds pretty similar, but any advice/insight on why this would be happening? I originally thought it could be a voicing problem, or notes were overlapping, but it doesn't make any sense to me.
Hi Miles, that's just the serum visuals each pluck is being triggered by new midi notes. I think it's just because the sound doesn't fully release before the next notes are played.
hi, sorry this is 3 years late HAHA but i had the same problem and it turned out that i mapped the macro to the cutoff instead of the envelope, hopefully that helps :')
How does one track or midi control measures of a given track with the effect or multiple of effects. For example; the cutoff build starting in :40 for example. I know that's probably a simple mixing factor but struggling to get that done on cubase....terminology? I have none lol
Hey synthhacker! question. i recreated this sound but i cant get the sequencing? it only plucks a single note but doesnt repeat any suggestions on trouble shooting?
+Karthik Rao there is a good 'marshmello lead / bass' tutorial out there that is basically that sound... it's usually one of the related videos to Tom's stuff
well, you could have previewed the sound during the making part, easy for this sound to reproduce at home but if it was more complicated I'd be pissed.

Pretty much the Deadmau5 pluck, or as he himself described it, a saw wave with a filter on it.
this is a tad bit diff :)
is it possible to do this in harmor, thats kind of the only synth i have that makes good supersaws
Aloysius Goh yes it is. if im not mistaken there is a knob called pluck somewhere
@@isthiscash ... no? It's literally just that. Two saw oscillators and a lowpass filter with an envelope. About as simple as you can make it, there's no steps you can leave out here if you wanna make a pluck.
I really like the progression. Its one of those that makes you go "yeaaah" when you hear it :D

This is the absolute BEST serum TUTORIALS available on youtube. Keep it up my man , i absolutely love it!!

Been checking back most days for my Serum SynthHacker injection. Was getting serious withdrawal - thanks for making it back. Cheers from Berlin!
This guy is so helpful. Has to be my favorite channel.
I love this Tutorial! Great Job, I love the outcome. Short and well explained. I followed it step by step- Amazing!
Thank you :DD

The ambiance coming from your microphone actually adds some nice high frequency hiss to the sound

You are a boss man, love your content!
Still sounds great 6 years later ❤️👍
Great tutorial man. Can you do one on the sound of an acoustic guitar. Like in Kshmr - Baazar?
Can you do a video on how to make close to the corresponding synth noises to the song @ 2:55
0:32 how to do the arp thingy, with the repeating notes? :D

+Dslyecix Yeah, I guess you're right.
really well made, thanks
that's amazing!!! can u make the definitive supersaw? hahah

I like how you say "a little bit"
How about some West Coast Bass music? G Jones is one of the best sound designers in this genre, like to see some tutorials on this

You received a snap👀
How do you make the sound arpeggiated? When I hold the notes there's only one single pluck :p Awesome tutorial btw thanks a lot :D

please reply to this! amazing vid btw

Can you please make the lead synth from the non dubstep part in Razor sharp pegboard nerds?
Hey can you doo the heavy metal arpy pluck in beak down of seven lions sojourn.
Can I just say how great it is to play your videos at .5 speed and pretend you're shitfaced drunk. Awesome tutorials, but makes me laugh the whole way through. Good stuff

Have you heard your skrittzy. and Kai "would you" can you do a tut on that chord lead ?

good stuff brother
love your videos
Keep doing what you are doing... ^_^
Still a great tutorial! And you sound like ewan mcgregor
Sounded a little over distorted when you opened up the filter, but cool simple sound anyway.
How come your sound retriggers as if there are new midi notes when the visual shows keys just being pressed down? Are you using an arp or something?
Hi Miles, that's just the serum visuals each pluck is being triggered by new midi notes. I think it's just because the sound doesn't fully release before the next notes are played.
MAN/ - U GENERATE COOL SOUND - ) I TRY IT TO)
I keep replicating this but i get no sound unless i hit the really low octaves and even then I can hardly hear it. Any thoughts on how to fix this?
hi, sorry this is 3 years late HAHA but i had the same problem and it turned out that i mapped the macro to the cutoff instead of the envelope, hopefully that helps :')

Derik Corl use automation
thanks alot its really helpful
Super Cool!!
Hey man, great videos. How would I record myself doing the cut-off? I can't seem to figure it out.
Some sounds of last herobust EP pls :3
Pipette Up would be nice
Hey synthhacker! question. i recreated this sound but i cant get the sequencing? it only plucks a single note but doesnt repeat any suggestions on trouble shooting?
this awesome thank you
i dont understand how it kept repeating when you help the chord down, i watched twice and whenever i play the chord its just a one shot
that's just because of the MIDI chords I'm playing, you can just sequence your midi chords to keep triggering the sound
@@SynthHackerTV thanks for replying! :)
@@SynthHackerTV Hiya, How are you sequencing them to do this? Thank you
any way you can make this sound on one of the default fruity synth midis?
Use the macro for cut off! Awesome tutorial though :)
This doesnt sound like what you are showing? Am I missing something? Do you have to put serum ontop of another instrument or something?
sooo pretty and fantastic
Amtrac piano boy pluck in the intro
completly different sound on my serum wtih thiz settings
how to play note and hold and it play again and agian
hey bruh please make something on marshmallo music I really want to know how his sounds are made
Isn't the "drive" knob just volume?
Thank u!!!
Can i have the midi for this please!!!
Thanks
But how can you automate that slow change in cutoff as well?
Oh it was easy enough, just use an LFO as well.
Could you show us the chord progression?
In the begining you can see that serum has a keyboard wen he plays the chords you can see the notes ;)
Hard to believe that this was made from 2 saw waves.
nice videos :)
i need serum so bad
he deserve it; this is one of the best softsynth all time
OH MY GOD
Please make the drop synth in Fetty Wap-Trap Queen (Crankdat remix)
+Karthik Rao there is a good 'marshmello lead / bass' tutorial out there that is basically that sound... it's usually one of the related videos to Tom's stuff
I did everything the same down to each number, but the sound was way different.
Can you say me the chords? pls
i did just you what you did and did not get the same sound....
video starts at 2:07
I LOVE U
how does he make the sound repeat?
put notes in sequence I guess
im wondering the same thing
well, you could have previewed the sound during the making part, easy for this sound to reproduce at home but if it was more complicated I'd be pissed.
