      @@Dannex7000 Hi Daniel,
      Thank you for your question. I don't have a PS5 myself, so I can't test or verify this, but I looked up the specs of the PS5 online. It seems that the PS5 allows certified headsets to be connected via Bluetooth, or wired headsets can be connected via the 3.5mm audio jack on the controller. PHASMA does not support USB, so the 3.5mm jack would be the only option. For this to work, you would need to connect a TRRS splitter to the 3.5mm jack and then connect your headphones and the PHASMA there. I assume that in this setup, you would be forced to use headphones because the audio signal will not be delivered to the TV anymore.
      I will reach out to the producers of PHASMA and ask if they can confirm this setup.

    Would this be a decent option for people practicing singing at ungodly hours?

    • @theinnovationengineer
      @theinnovationengineer  6 месяцев назад

      That's a great question, and the answer is both yes and no. Technically, it would serve exactly this purpose: You can sing as loudly as you like, and the environment will only hear a low, muffled voice. However, singing might be uncomfortable with the mask on. This is because, while you exhale, the mask's valve closes, creating resistance. When speaking, this resistance is slight and barely noticeable, but singing at full force pushes air out of your lungs, making this resistance potentially exhausting after a short while. Therefore, my assessment is that while it would work as intended, it could become exhausting and uncomfortable.

    Would pair well with other noise reduction techniques, you assume its all going through the walls but you will be amazed at how well you can reduce sound by making sure your door, outlets, and windows are almost airtight. I got some foam tubing and sticky foam strips I put under and around the door, put covers over the outlets, and put more foam strips around the windows and it reduced the sound a whole lot. If I got this I don't think anybody in the house would notice anything unless they were paying really close attention.

    • @theinnovationengineer
      @theinnovationengineer  Год назад +3

      I wouldn't call it useless. Of cause, you need to set your expectations correctly since it only dampens your voice. In my case, it works well enough so that I don't wake my wife while using voice attack in my flight simulator. But yes, this test was supposed to show the mask in action.

    I do have some questions, you have a beard which means it's not as tight a seal around the face. If air can get through. so can sound. Also I would like to see a test setup without use of your mic. Just the db monitor with/without the mask and see what it shows. I find it weird that there was so little db drop, yet seemed to have a big effect listening to the video. Also if you had your speakers on, it could have been reading the output of those, not just your voice. Does your db monitor show the avg signal?

    • @theinnovationengineer
      @theinnovationengineer  Год назад

      Thanks for the questions! Yes, without the beard, there would be better insulation but the mask is not that closed, so these microscopic gaps would make an audible difference. There is also a gap on the bridge of my nose. Regarding the decibel-meter, this is actually a feature. I can switch between the regular mode (having the numbers jump up and down while I speak) and the min/max mode (showing only the maximum or minimum number). I used the max-setting so that I don't need to keep watching the display while I was talking. This way I can look after the test on the display and get only the relevant number which is the highest peak from the experiment. My device does not calculate an average.

    @TonyBologna9 Год назад +4

    Hey, a little late to the video, but just had a quick question. I understand this isn't full proof, but realistically would you say that this would do the job fine for someone in the next room over? I'm not shouting, but I get a little loud when I game and have been told they can hear me through the wall. I sit on the opposite side of the room from that particular wall. Just from your experience, would you guess the noise reduction would work well enough in that situation?

    • @theinnovationengineer
      @theinnovationengineer  Год назад +2

      Hi, thanks for the question. The perception of this is of course very subjective. If the room is quiet and my wife sits at the desk next to me, trying to work, she will hear my muffled voice and she will still be distracted. The mask acts a bit like an extra wall. If people in the next room heard you while playing, they will definitely hear you less with the mask (as through 2 walls instead of one). But it depends on the wall, your voice, and the noise sensitivity of the people. Loud conversations become muffled conversations but they will never be silent.
      Btw. metadox.pro just announced a new model for the mask: The OMBRA. This is a nose-free version of the mask. The dampening effect might be slightly lower but breathing becomes completely unobstructed. I will review the OMBRA on camera as soon as I can get my hands on one of those!

    Lose the DB meter. We need real world data. Have someone right outside your door while you have the mask on and doing the loudest gamer rage screech you can do and ask how much of it they can hear you. Or place the microphone outside the door. Having the mic right next to your face isn't a real world test. That's like asking your wife to put her ears next to your mask and asking if she can still hear you lol. Your loud commands you did was nothing, that's almost regular volume for most gamers

    Just thinking if it’s going to stop snoring sound coming out 😂

    • @theinnovationengineer
      @theinnovationengineer  9 месяцев назад

      That's a great question! The answer is no. The mask is designed the other way around. It blocks sound by closing the valve when you exhale, as happens when you talk. The valve opens when you inhale, allowing unobstructed fresh air intake, which occurs during snoring. Thus, while you're snoring, the valve is open, allowing the sound to escape.

      That is a super good question! Thanks!
      No, Snoring will barely be blocked by the mask because snoring noises happen while you breathe in. On the Phasma the air valve opens up while you breathe in, meaning that the sound waves of your snoring will escape. The mask is designed to close whenever you exhale or speak. When you inhale or snore, the valve opens up.
