Instead of asking students who use profanity where they heard that word, because it really doesn't matter where they heard it, I ask them if they know what it means. Of course they never do, so then I explain that it is hurtful or mean and it is not a "school word". Many times the child will return home and ask what the word means which lets parents know the child said it at school.
And by talking about words we use use at school, we lay the foundation and set the expectation for academic language. I let my students know that we are scholars and we will speak differently at school than we do at home. This expectation can be helpful in addressing not only "potty mouth", but hyperbole, colloquialisms and slang.

I LOVE this : "If the words coming out of your mouth are not a blessing or an encouragement, we do not say it." I am going to print this and hang it in my classroom to discuss the first week of school and refer back to throughout the year. Thank you!! I am about to start my 2nd year teaching Kinder and you have been such an inspiration, thank you for all that you do!

I tied gas in with our body unit when we talked about the digestive system. I teach at a Christian school so my explanation was that God made our bodies to do many things without us having to do anything. The kids loved my activity with mixing dry oatmeal and sprite to mimic the stomach then explained sometimes our bodies let out gas as a signal we need to potty soon because the smooth muscles are always working. I found that the kids even at Kindergarten didn't make a big deal once they realized it was normal and purposeful. As far as the cussing, I agree with your assumption. They either hear it from parents or older students. I usually teach the 10 commandments early in the year to tie in how we need to be kind and respectful on all levels. If it continues, I communicate with the parents.

I'm honestly interested in how many people who aren't teachers watch these videos. I'm not a teacher but somehow your classroom tour was suggested by RUclips. I still work with young kids for my job so videos like this are actually still really useful to me. I never knew how much work really goes into being a primary school teacher un till I watched your videos. I think it's really cool to see!

I don't think I can say this enough, I JUST LOVE YOUR CHANNEL! As an aspiring kindergarten teacher, this channel speaks to my soul! Even though I like other channels, I feel like most of them aren't kinder-centered. I was just wondering if you could make a video like 'A day in the life of a kindergarten teacher'? I absolutely love day in the life vlogs!

The school I teach at is a pre-k through high school small, rural environment and while the elementary, middle school, and high schools exist in separate wings of the building they all share common areas like the media center, gyms, specials classrooms and cafeteria. Partly because of our particular learning environment and because we strive to teach our older kids that they should be behaving professionally we have a strict no swearing policy. With high school students it is a challenge, but most of them are really good at filtering themselves. It is not allowed in the classrooms, hallways, extra curriculars, anywhere in the school. Unfortunately there are a few that cannot seem to contain themselves and so they have been our first visitors to after school detention this year. Hopefully they do not have to become frequent flyers.

We use the "I Care" programme to supplement our You and Your World curriculum in K-2. One of the "I Care" Rules is "We use I Care language" So anytime I hear excuse me/ please/thank you/are you ok?/ I love your picture....I make a huge deal about what I heard and let the whole class know what I heard. It encourages the others to use "I Care language" as well.

I’m 12 and I KNOW for sure that I want to teach kindergarten and the sad part about this topic is that I can see myself laughing if a kid burps or farts🤣 but thank you for all the great inspiration and content.❤️

I teach 9 & 10 years olds, so the whole body function thing is, apparently, hilarious. I just tell them that all bodies do those things and just ignore it (especially if it's a bad smell!!); if the smell is too bad I tell them to breathe through their mouth instead of their nose. I haven't had to deal with profanity. I also work in a Christian school and my kids just don't use that language in the classroom. Maybe it happens in the playground, but I've not had to deal with it.

I love your videos! You have such pretty eyes! Yep, I have been wanting to comment how beautiful your eyes are for like your past few videos.
I teach 5th and one of our rules is "use kind words" I feel like my kiddos know what's appropriate to say, they just choose not to a lot of the time, so I just try to reinforce it.

I'd be really interested in how you handle behavioral issues c: I'm an after care teacher for kindergartens and I struggle with kids who don't listen from time to time and honestly your videos are just so helpful !! So I'm very interested.

I'm not a teacher at all, I'm actually 13 and I really want to be a reception (children aged 4-5) teacher so bad since I was little and as I've been going to my primary school and helping the Reception class in my free time I've thought of something that I would try and use in my classroom and maybe you'd like the idea of it. The whole idea is a 'negative tent' or even an area, so first you'd teach them what the negative and positive emotions are and that if you feel like you have a negative emotion you can go in the negative tent and come out with positive emotions. The tent would have lots of cushions so that the child can express their feelings by squeezing or even hitting a pillow, of course hitting is only allowed on the cushions in the negative tent and you can reinforce that. Also a rule I'd use is that if someone is in the tent, you don't disturb them, if someone is in it and you want to use it, it's ok to go in but don't talk, do what you have to do to come out more happy. Another way to use it is if you feel a child is angry you could say 'why don't you go to the negative tent and let those sad feelings out and come back when you're a little more calm and we can talk, I can help you but not with the negative emotions' or something like that and it would help them have more control and understanding over their emotions. You don't have to use it, it's just a suggestion but I quite like it

So most of the time almost all the time bad language comes from home, and I believe that it should be frowned upon at home as well I work with 4th graders which means this is a bit more of a recurrence for me I have a booklet just for this reason. I will write all there names down and when they use a bad word I put a check next to there name( the kids don't know about the booklet it is for me only) then every time they get 3 I will call the parents and I think it is really important to contact parents when this happens
