yes ,the video is absolutelly sure shot, iat first i thought is an official version ..:) AAnd the song is just...one of the songs of my life..thank you for the upload
listen to this loud enough so that you cannot hear anything else on your headphones while being the passenger in a car thats moving very fast. it has to be on a busy road. Squint so that all the light around you is blurry....its an experience like no other..
Oh dear. I get so much information about the story of this song in my inbox that I really don't know which version to believe, and everyone claims to be saying the ultimate truth. Nevertheless, thank you for your attempts to be precise. All I get is one fact: the song was devoted to somebody's death, and it can be felt in the tense sound and atmosphere. I'm just a listener, after all.
@SorenSorenssen ok, the guy was "Joe Cole"...he was a friend of kims and gordons, i think. unless i have my stories mixed up, he was the guy w/ henry (see my comment below) that fateful day. RIP to Joe Cole, and all those touched by ruthless violence.
@SorenSorenssen your facts might be a little off. heres how i know the story (dont quote me): "JC" was a guy (not a kid) who was buds w/ Henry Rollins (spoken word performer/former vocalist for legendary punk band Black Flag) in the early 1980s. he was at Rollins' apartment in Los Angeles when thugs invaded the home to rob and pillage. they had assault rifles. the guys bolted for the back door, thinking it was their only hope. Rollins, thankfully, made it. JC did not, and was shot to death.
I watched this video about a year ago and I didn't appreciate it then, I was just eager to hear the song, it's special to me. Later I found out that it was written after the murder of a young boy, Jack mentioned in the song. Now I watch this video and I see it was made with a very deep understanding of the tense atmosphere in the melody, which I actually liked, or it shows good artistic taste at least. I don't know if you knew the story, but thank you girls, anyway. It's so expressive.
It wasn't a young boy, it was Joe Cole, a big roadie that was really good friends with the band, and alot of bands in the scene at the time. Story goes while living with Henry Rollins the two went out to get some groceries, and upon coming back to their house they were being robbed. Joe got shot.
@SorenSorenssen sorry, me again. yep, i checked it out online. "JC" = Joe Cole, a roadie for Black Flag, shot in 1991 (not the 80s like i originally stated). check out the very informative Wiki entry for "joe cole". how very sad....i love this song.
It wasn't about "Jack" - it's dedicated to Joe Cole: Black Flag roadie, roommate of Henry Rollins and boyfriend of the beautiful Michelle Leon of Babes in Toyland who dropped out of the band after his murder. He was, as many have stated, "one of the sweetest human beings who ever lived." He was murdered by robbers when he and Rollins were walking home to their house in Venice after a show. %100 is also all about Cole.
I have loved this song for such a long time. Your video fits it really well.
