the video came at exact time when we in the group were chatting on terrorists vs military attack carried on yesterday and the speaker's thoughts are a bit similar to our discussions.
This is why the Internet has the potential to unit the whole of humanity, to end wars over property and life styles, just communicate and understand each others point of view, this life is never going to be heaven / nervana, etc but we can make it better.
You can never understand something you dont have a personal experience on. Sure you can think that war or faminine as horrible, but that feeling is pathetically muted compared actually experiencing them firsthand. The inernet can only expedite information sharing. That is the same as explaining what are colors to a blind person. Having an actual physical interaction gives a better perspective. Internet It is only part of the puzzle and so far it only increased the population of salty keyboard warriors. People who are in a rush to express hate reponding only to the title and not digesting the whole content. So meh.
You are all correct. Although the internet does have the potential to increase awareness, literally everything in the world has at some point been used as a weapon and the internet is now the weapon of choice for most. 20 years ago we could factually say we were living in _The Information Age,_ but that moment is gone. In the past few years in particular it has become very apparent we are now living in _The Age of Misinformation._ That coupled with the purposeful destruction of our public schools for the profit of the wealthy elite (another tool used as a weapon) in America has also caused a massive increase in linguistic illiteracy, This is why we all need to fact check, and in particular, we need to fact check our own beliefs just as vigorously. Because real information is literally the *only* defense against misinformation. And only through introspection can we grow as individuals. Be the hero. Be honest within yourselves and learn all the *factual truths* you can. I wish you all good luck in your individual journeys to create a better world for us all. ^-^
But that's the true issue, people actually taking the time to try and understand other people's perspective. If all we did is learn by experience we would be living in caves, you can't learn all the 'progress' that's been achieved by our ancestors in a single lifetime, that's the true value of information. We do need to weed out bad information, but who do we rely upon to guarantee the facts, because people with that amount of power usually become corrupt in someway, so maybe this is why we live in 'bubbles' (them n us). Surely the first step is to communicate though, for without communication we are blind n deaf to anything but our own perspectives.?
Well this is definitely something to ponder over during self-quarantine and social distancing- Thinking is fun, thanks for continuing to put things like this out.
When we talk about violence, I think it is not only physical violence that we should consider. In our societies, for example, the competitive attitude is considered to be a positive attitude and is ingrained in us right from childhood, and admired. But the act of competing with another is also an act of violence. It is probably the beginning of the building of the violent ecology. Can we change this system which has probably been there since our cavemen days? If we can, it would be a major change .... like a step forward in the evolution of mankind.
Not if I can help it. Hope is eternal, because no one can predict the future. Yes, we are currently headed down the path you say we are, but that outcome has yet to be decided and heroes do exist be they great or small. Keep hope in your heart and you naturally become the hero.
True Freedom and Peace, comes when we Discover and Understand the Difference, between the human Primate and "LIFE, The Real Self"... When we discover this, we no longer desire to harm anything, including humans, in this Experience/World.
Empathy is the ability to sense what others feel. Although empathy and caring do often go hand in hand, it does not always follow that one is even concerned for the welfare of others simply because they have that sensitivity. I believe compassion is what you meant. Compassion is where strength comes from. This can even be proven by the fact that all heroes endeavor to selflessly help others and to defend those who are less able to defend themselves.
That is at least partially true, but there are plenty of individuals who also do much damage. Also we all play a part for good or bad in our own ways too. *We can only fight misinformation with real information,* and so we must endeavor to become fact checkers, the new breed of hero in this age of misinformation. In particular, we must all fact check ourselves, lest we become part of the problem and not part of the solution. Never forget that hope is eternal.
I wonder if we can truly get rid of the ' Violent ecology' you allude to. It's easier in the more developed nations where people already have most of their demands met ( and often taken for granted too). Wonder the same is true for countries with less or no democracy and those with serious misgovernance. Their reasons for 'violent ecology' may be genuine grievance too
It is impossible to tell a narcissist anything, because they believe they already know everything better than anyone else. But trump is just a symptom. A very real and dangerous symptom of course, but not the disease itself. I find him to be despicable I admit, but more like I despise a runny nose or a fever, not the actual virus that caused it. I hope that people will endeavor to break down these bubbles more often and try to put a face and a reality to the anonymous.
there was a war in heaven due to opposition and it will end with a war here due to opposition. so the question is by what source you side with and is it verifiable? verifiable even down to the inspired documents of DOI & Constitution.
What the good doctor either didn't have time for, or neglects to understand, is that destructive violence does not necessarily need to involve bombs, guns, knives, or guillotine. Violent character assassins, who recently have often had respected platforms as guests of master character assassins at congressional hearings, and doxers are constantly prowling for new victims. Intellectual freedom and respect for reasonable differing opinions is dead on most public university campuses in the United States, and the minds of the "students" at these places are being buried in the same grave, covered with the salted soil of political correctness. Since she made what she thought was a very clever guilt by association reference to a prominent figure in the US today and Bolshevik communists with the reference to "fake news", (should be renamed real lies), uttered slowly--wait for it---and with a pause for effect, I'd gently remind her it was those very same revolutionaries who invented the term politically correct. Look it up. Study some more documents. Checkmate.
This is polite and all but- There are literally kids in cages on American soil. That is not because people are choosing a 'red or blue team' but because violence is inherent and tolerated in our society. Blanket "all-lives-matter" talks do nothing to disrupt the actual state of things if you aren't being explict about the issues and who the perpetrators are.
Sounds like she is talking about members of Antifa 🤔. She is talking about identity politics. That is what the extreme liberal community is doing. And, what the extreme conservatives have always done. People have just always expected it from the extreme conservatives. It is a newer idea in America for the far left to be acting in this way.
Discussing the problems that extremists present in no way causes one to become an extremist themselves. *Disregarding such things though is both extremely irresponsible and dangerous.* It sounds to me as if you are a secret antifa member here just to sow dissent and misinformation. Either that or you are illiterate in the English language. In either case, the cure is literacy. I strongly suggest you endeavor to become more literate.
"It is a newer idea in America for the extreme left to be acting in this way". I came of age in "The '60's", but I'm most assuredly not "a child of the '60's", as some smarmy public tv execs like to claim. I doubt many of my informed and honest peers would agree with your statement. I certainly do not.
Mike Wiltfang I should revise my statement. Being that I am 33, those in my age group would find that the extreme left is a newer idea in the United States. I apologize for misspeaking
How thin skinned people have become that they cannot get past such absurdly trivial things, even when a topic is of such importance to the entire world we all live in. Grow a sack please.
'Political violence is not culturally endemic'. 'Our day to day habits contribute to the creation of violence in our environment'. Well, culture is just THE WAY WE DO THINGS, so our day to day habits are products of our culture. Violence IS endemic to some cultures, denying it is just political correctness.
I think what she meant is that violence is not particularly inherent to any specific culture, but rather a result of the universal processes she described.
I wonder if we can truly get rid of the ' Violent ecology' you allude to. It's easier in the more developed nations where people already have most of their demands met ( and often taken for granted too). This was beautiful and I agree with this! I have suffered so much due to violence within my family. Hate is hate and it destroys us all.
Thank you for wrapping up this difficult issue, bringing the gist to the surface. Enjoyed this Ted Talk very much.
You have an awesome profession!
If only this talk reached more millions of people.

Aylbdr Madison I get the feeling you think very highly of yourself.
No matter what she is discussed... She is looking gorgeous 😍
What she discussed is far more important than beauty. For if we do not attend to such things, we may lose all beauty in our world.

If we are learning every day then why do I forget what I have studied today two days later 🤔
I wish she would've mentioned how all these information bubbles are created by the same corporations

She literally gave several examples that had nothing to do with corporations. Maybe it's time to look beyond your own filters?
So, what is the best potato for french fries?
Amen.

Why's there an empty toilet paper roll? Is she angry that the toilet paper's empty? 🤔
Even 100 years ago propagandists had already used the technique of combining different images to imply a meaning that in reality never existed.
@Driver Nirvana no, I use my fingers 😂😂😂😂😂😉😉😉😉
@Driver Nirvana I was obviously joking. I don't gt mad when the toilet paper's all. Just change it. It's not that big of a deal.
@@jennifermichener4273 you on point😂
The problems are loyalty and accountability and prosperity those needs are not met and thus agencies are created to harbor those affected. *drops mic*
