I don't think headphones should be prohibited, but I do think that it's a very tacky look, regardless of what headphones a player is wearing. Feels disrespectful to the game and his card mates, but that's just my opinion. Let people wear them if they want to, but in a professional setting, there should be some more awareness.
Headphones arent bothering anyone. But for events, I think, they should be prohibited. Mental focus and concentration are key to any sport and the competitors need to have it without requiring the headphones.
If we want our sport to be taken seriously, no headphones should be allowed. At least it should be forbidden at tournaments. This full on head-set is just rude towards the rest of the card.
No. No they shouldn't be allowed head/earphones, simply because the rules of the game dictate that EVERY player must be alert and paying attention to their cardmates' throws. When the enforcement of the rules is in the players' hands, they cannot be allowed to hamper their ability to enforce said rules.
@@stefans9530 If it stops them from fullfilling the requirments of a player? Absolutely. Until the rules are changed and/or rule enforcement is offloaded to officials, players must be alert and attentive. Its just the shitty way disc golf was set up.
...and no. NO headphones. I don't like seeing these guys with 'em. It is a bad look, in my opinion. It is like a giant middle finger to the rest of the card and competitors. The same goes for earbuds, etc. C'mon, take off the training wheels.
About the headphones issue, I don't think over the ears headphones should be allowed. It makes hearing your cardmates more difficult. I think earbuds are okay if used in one ear. I've played with cardmates who have used over the ear headphones or earbuds in both ears and at times someone on the card had to physically tap the person to get their attention. The bone induction type of headphones are also a good option.
Canada may now be 5th or 6th with all the forest fires this summer. We've had constant smoke haze this year sometimes where it was hazardous to go outside. I masked up to play disc golf.
About headphones… disc golf is a non-contact sport. This eliminates any chance of injury from the headphones to say they should be disallowed. Headphones keep the noise contained to the individual wearing them, eliminating disruption to others. With zero risk and zero hinderance, players should be allowed to wear headphones during tournament play. What is the argument for banning them?

What is going on with the droning tones from the drone? I haven't heard this on coverage... If I had to listen to that during an entire round, I would be wearing headphones the second I hit the tee.... awful...
If we ever want professional disc golf to get the recognition it deserves, headphones definitely have to be banned. Looks super goofy and unprofessional. A professional athlete, especially in a golf sport, should be able to focus on their performance despite his or her environment.
Headphones should stay allowed. I don’t think it really interferes with anything. I’ve played amateur tournaments where I’ve used them because my card was excessively chatty with each other and that was more inconsiderate than me putting in an airpod
The headphones conversation is the stupidest one. Yes of course they should be allowed. It's an individual sport. Imagine a runner wearing headphones while they run oh dang. Super dumb That people would want to limit the players enjoyment.
Yeah that was about as dumb of a comment as they come.. comparing a team sport where you need to yell at each other to make plays happen to a singular person just playing a course 1v1.. yeah that makes a lot of sense
Keep the head phones. He obviously has them turned to a decent level so he could hear the chains so he knows when his card mate stops putting so he can walk again. Another reason im pro headphones is cause i don't know how to tell people on my cards that i don't want to talk or to tell them to shut up while im trying to take my shot its easily to just be the ass hole that wears headphones.
I like over the ear headphones as the inside of my ear doesn't get so sweaty. I live in central florida, so it's pretty much year-round. As far as headphones on the course, I don't like the distraction of noise or music myself, but if someone wants to wear something like that, I'd suggest just a single ear, so the other is available to hear your surroundings, such as "fore!" and the like. I think I've seen players wear a single air pod before, probably for that reason. Just my thoughts.
I read from a few comments that headphones are ‘disrespectful to card mates’. Can someone explain why it’s disrespectful? Does everyone have to talk to everyone? Some people are shy or introverts and want to keep to themselves or are tuning out the loud guy who can’t tell that he’s annoying as shit. If this is an advantage, everyone would be doing it so it’s purely a comfort thing for some, a complete non issue for my money.
Wearing over the ear headphones in an official tournament shouldn't be allowed. It's also just rude and makes you look like you ride the short bus. If you can't focus through a little crowd noise or distractions then go play chess.
its funny how the over-ear headphones seem like a worse offense than AirPods even though it is the same advantage. Lots of FPO players wear AirPods during the entire round. Seems rude to fellow cardmates if you ask me.
I've always thought people with earbuds in look obnoxious, and it shouldn't be allowed during sanctioned events. Full headphones even worse. Situational awareness and the ability to clearly hear is important.
I vote no to headphones during tournament play. It can be considered an advantage bc it helps calm players from an external source. Plus it just seems a little rude to your card mates. Also, need to be able to hear card mates or commands from TDs or even “fore” from a close flying disc.
Of course, there goes the dramatic ones. How would they be able to hear a meteor coming? What if they take a disc to the dome bc they didn’t hear fore? We aren’t talking about being deaf. We’re just talking about not letting headphones on the course during tournament play. I’ll tap someone on the shoulder if they need help from a disability, but not tap them on the shoulder bc they don’t want to hear anyone else on the course. It’s golf, not an athletic noise venue.
I think the headphones are doing nothing but noise cancelling. Only listening to music while you're putting would be SO offsetting, going in and out of different vibes. I don't see a problem with shutting out distractions while putting, as long as it doesn't interfere with your ability to communicate with your card mates (as stated in the official rules). Are there more elegant solutions for shutting out distractions on the putting green? Absolutely. In-ears are more discrete, but they can do the exact same job as over-ear, so the discussion should really be about, wether you gain an unfair advantage by using noise-cancelling technology or not (plugs or buds alike). And if so, what about devices such as the range finder? Or even a mobile phone that's connected to the internet? I'm on the non-restrictive side of the argument. The nature of the sport is such that, a lot of noise is being made on courses when there's tournament play, you can only do so much to restrict the audience and players on other nearby holes. So it's reasonable to say that the more noise sensitive players, are at a disadvantage without the help of technology like this.

In a individual sport like disc golf headphones should be allowed. Comparison to team sports where you need to hear your team mates it would be just distraction to the team. Let's say if you are deaf person you probably can't play in NBA or NFL.. But definitely could play disc golf as a pro. Would it be a benefit to be a deaf person in disc golf?
The comparison of headphones in basketball and disc golf is a nonsensical one. Of course those playing a team sport where communication is key, shouldn't be wearing them. As long as disc golfers are still able to communicate with their card mates while wearing headphones, I don't see them as an issue in disc golf.
They don't use drones in coverage. It's all hand-held or tripod/monopod mounted cameras. I've heard that drones are not allowed for actual play coverage due to the sound and concern with the drone hitting a disc or disc hitting the drone and affecting play. Drone coverage is only used to show the hole layout and is done before play ever begins.

@user-fe6ki8bi3v I agree they should not be allowed. It's bad enough that only the lead and, sometimes, chase card have to deal with all the cameras and camera folks being a distraction that other players don't have to deal with. But drones? That would be really annoying and an unfair distraction for the lead and chase cards.
its a solo sport so headphones should be fine as long as the players arent using them to ignore cardmate and officials. Lebron comparison was bad since basketball is a team sport
While I understand why you think it shouldn't be allowed to play with headphones, I don't think it's a big deal. Lebron can't play with headphones because his sport besides being a team sport and needing to hear your teammates, they could also interfere with plays and cause an injury to other players. Disc golf is a solo sport, and just like your shoes or clothes, you pick whatever is comfortable for you as long as you are not affecting anyone else. But that's just my opinion, I can't play with headphones nor earbuds, its uncomfortable to me.

Yes on the ear plugs. It’s not basketball and they don’t need to communicate other than to collaborate on rules or who’s turn. The difference between discgolf and traditional golf is that the distances are so great in traditional golf you don’t have to listen to the other players comments. Yes on the ear plugs or mouth plugs for the energy vampires 😝
Anyone who's been paying attention knows that a lot of MPO and FBO players already wear them. They're just little air pods so you don't really notice. In a solo sport like this and that helps a player focus whatever there should be no rule against it. They're definitely shouldn't be active drones in the air though during competition which I couldn't help but hear on hole two. I'd wear headphones too if they were going to be
All headphones should be banned from competition. Part of being a pro should be learning to handle pressure from the environment, and personally I think wearing headphones is a lame way to bypass that.
Seriously arguing about if headphones should be allowed in tournament? 😂 who tf cares. We all play disc golf to have fun.. if someone enjoys it more with music then literally, WHO CARES.
Absolutely NO headphones! It makes the sport look bush league, disrespectful, and opens it up to potential cheating: someone feeding them wind reads close to the basket... metronome sounds for putting timing. I think Tiger Woods is a better analogy than LeBron
I don't see why headphones would be an issue. Comparing it to basketball is kind of weird though. Basketball requires constant attention to other players and people including your own team. This does not. Headphones doesn't effect any other rules of throwing and such so it doesn't seem like a big deal.
Headphones are fine, so long as you are able to hear and clearly communicate with your cardmates. Scott's headphones are ridiculous if wearing them outside of just his putting routine though
The headphones will go the moment the TD realises if you shout to a player that a branch (or a whole tree in the previous round of this tournament) is about to hit them on the head and he doesn't hear it.......
@@markt.4736 It's risk vs avoidable risk. I have no preference either way tbf, but should it ever happen and their insurers find out the competitor was wearing headphones, good luck. That's the world we live in.
As long as they are still aware of everything around them and coherent with the round and whats going on, there is no issue with someone wearing headphones whatsoever other than your own personal biased opinions.
Headphones - I'm pretty sure they're being used to block out distracting noises, including talking away from your card. I think it's genius, Aiden probably only uses them for putting. Some of my worst rounds have been tournament rounds because of the slow pace of play and distractions. If you have trouble concentrating, headphones can help a ton.
Music all day (headphones, earbuds, speaker, etc.) for casual rounds. I think for tournament competition it shouldn't be allowed, if DG wants to be seen as a true professional sport. I can't think of any other type of pro or high-level amateur competition where headphones are allowed, even for individual events. If I'm wrong, please correct me. Interesting issue.
I have ADHD and having headphones is a game changer. I don’t need everyone to be as quiet as i normally would. It’s a form of self agency that has brought more harmony for me on the course. Admittedly over the ear does look quite odd though, especially on a tour event. ,

They're definitely shouldn't be active drones in the air though during competition which I couldn't help but hear on hole two. I'd wear headphones too if they were going to be
The drones are for the live coverage
@@wgorham93 Even so, it's definitely distracting and takes away from the concentration aspect that many players ask for.
A ramp, berm, or even a curb would launch the rollers into the air, cool to see one start to fly again, especially down hill
All headphones should be banned from competition. Part of being a pro should be learning to handle pressure from the environment, and personally I think wearing headphones is a lame way to bypass that.
Are headphones getting bigger or are idiots getting smaller?
😂
oh yeah, let's do this - should players be allowed to have ballcaps? Or how about sunglasses? we need more regulation!
Handkerchiefs are the exception!
I find headphones take away the social aspect of the game.
Seriously arguing about if headphones should be allowed in tournament? 😂 who tf cares. We all play disc golf to have fun.. if someone enjoys it more with music then literally, WHO CARES.
I personally don't like playing with a headphones guy on my card in a tournament round. But as a rule? Idk.
Why does it bother you?
Absolutely NO headphones! It makes the sport look bush league, disrespectful, and opens it up to potential cheating: someone feeding them wind reads close to the basket... metronome sounds for putting timing.
I think Tiger Woods is a better analogy than LeBron
Feeding them wind reads🤣🤣😂😂 so dumb
🐟 🐠 🎣 🐡 FISH!
I think he should have to wear them while he’s on the tee pad.
6:13 yes, of course - they already wear earbuds. Lebron is playing an interactive game - no comparison.
poggers
The headphones will go the moment the TD realises if you shout to a player that a branch (or a whole tree in the previous round of this tournament) is about to hit them on the head and he doesn't hear it.......
Deaf people are allowed to play. Makes this a non issue.
Fiiissshhhhh
Headphones - definitely a no-go. Safety becomes a concern, as well as it just seems a bit undesirable to the viewer and card-mates.
Why is Scott wearing headphones on the putt?
Just vibin
Maybe because of noise cancelling. Would be my guess.
This isn't basketball. Let him wear headphones if he wants to.
Admittedly over the ear does look quite odd though, especially on a tour event.
,
Definitely no headphones!
If people on the card won't shut up then yes but if people are professional you shouldn't need em
@CentralCoastDiscGolf If you want the public to take Disc Golf seroiusly as a legitimate professional sport, the answer is NO on headphones. Period. You don't see the pros in the PGA being televised wearing headphones when they are driving or putting.
We don't need unneeded rules. If it doesn't hurt, or hinder anyone, let it be. don't take the freedom out of the last sport that represents freedom.
